ibreakemineedtobuildem
Body is a Mahogany explorer Neck 5 piece Purpleheart/Maple 25 inch scale 24 fret wide high jumbos undercut to fill in ends Side dots on the board(I like the way they stand out) Rosewood board Graphtech nut Emg 81 PU and Electronics Eboney Knobs My favorite economy hardtail Grovers My rear control cavity has the input recessed into it.I chipped it,so I'm building another one. The neck and body are finished in polymerized tung oil.About 10 coats wiped off after 10 minutes.Letting dry 24 hours in between coats. Then clapmans mineral oil beeswax finish for salade bowls is wiped on and left over night and buffed dry 4 or 5 times. After oiling I used 0000 steelwool to level. The body has had a little minwax rosewood stain on it before oiling. This guitar feels unbelieveable. This neck is soft and smooooooooooth. Crazy smooth. It is very light.I will weigh it,but it won't be much.I rasped a lot of wood off of that. I need to wait for my crowning file to get here to finish my frets and start playing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...uildem/x1-5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/x-1-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...buildem/x-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/x1-21.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...dem/smxcrop.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/x1-15.jpg Edited March 20, 2005 by ibreakemineedtobuildem

Mickguard
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/x1-15.jpg ← Interesing...it looks like instead of routing a lip all around the control cavity, you simply left tabs ? I don't know if that's how it's usually done, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense! Just in time too, I plan on routing my cavities later today.... greenkat
lovely, i think that's one of the best Explorers i've seen in a long time, hell maybe ever.....you don't see 'em shaped like that to often...good job.......
Slabbefusk
Nice! I love explorers with reverse headstocks.
Maiden69
Nice job, I do dislike the look of a reverse head on it, but it looks nice. And tabs have been around for ever, that's the way Gibson do theirs, and how I did most of mines.
RGGR
Sweet neck.

skibum5545
Oh my goodness...now I see why people are so fond of Explorers. No, seriously dude, this guitar adds to the explorer what it has always lacked for me: the bevels make the whole thing so much more pleasing to the eye, and the beautifully laminated neck adds that touch of class that puts it a step above its fluorescent, tiger striped past. Congratulations on a great build; I hope that thing sounds as good as it looks!

Nalo1022
I'mnot usually a big fan of explorers....they alwasy had a certain chessey metal look to them but you have take all the chesse right out of it. That guitar looks extremley badass. I really love the headstock and the extra alminations on to continue the stripe pattern. I cant wait to see the thing strung up
CudBucket
Beautiful! Do you have any neck angle?
ibreakemineedtobuildem
Thanks guys I really like this guitar.I finished the frets and strung it up. This guitar was the first I have built that after assembly there were no problems. I tuned it up and not a rattle to be found.Everything is going to well with this,I think I have bad luck coming I need to stain and oil the control cover then take a final pic of the guitar. I did put some neck angle but I can't say how much because I eyed it up. I'll measure it to see. The action can go really low.Myself,I like it a little high so I'll get it set up. That neck is unbelievable.I can't say how much I love that neck.Very Fast.
Bassisgreat
that is the best looking explorer I've seen! Very nice work! I have always been undecided on the Explorer, I AM decided on this one! The beveling of the edges works wonders for this design!
borge
wicked guitar usually asymetrical headstocks with laminations can look a bit silly to me but the way u carried the lams on 4 the full width of the hs it looks good as also do u know what kind of mahogany it is? ibreakemineedtobuildem
Thanks. The Mahogany is Brazillian.
slayer63636
The body is so SWEET, and that head stock reminds me of the explorer i rebuilt with the revese head stock. also the matching truss rod cover sets it all off. keep up the good work!!!
