Hunter
Oh wow. That looks really nice. Maybe give that natural middle part a slight hint of green, or would that throw the whole thing off? What kinda wood are you using for the fretboard and neck? Drak
It already does, it's so light that you can't 'really' see it, but that's exactly what you said it should be., Maybe you meant a few shades darker, but that would ruin it. Don't you get it? It's -just- like an apple, an apple IS that color in the middle, dig? That's one of the coolest things about it is the understated center area, it's PERFECT. westhemann
no reason to limit it just to red...why not do something more interesting?red is okay and all...but anyone can just tint something red i like the apple burst
Guitarfrenzy
no reason to limit it just to red...why not do something more interesting?red is okay and all...but anyone can just tint something red i like the apple burst ← Or a cherry burst like my latest guitar is going to have. That would look nice also.
Drak
Nah. It's gonna be a Sourburst, and a huge fat thanks goes out to skibum for yanking my chain and making me remember this beautiful color. Reds and cherrybursts are exactly what I'm trying to get away from, too common for me, I was looking for something to make a statement, and I've bumped my head and found it. NOW I have a plan, a focus, now my engines are fueled with that mad burning gasoline fire that I need when it comes to this stage every time, that berserk cocaine-don't-make-me-crazy liquified jolt of inspiration. Now it's like focusing the lens of a telescopic sight, the subject has been spotted, time to focus in until the picture is crystal f*cking clear, then.......click.......BOOM! THANKS SKI AND DARREN AND JEREMY!
Guitarfrenzy
Can't wait to see what you end up with.. I've never made a red guitar before, mostly blue, purple, black with flames.. etc. but never a red, so that's mainly why I'm going red for this one. Jivin
From the picture I personally think the Green->Clear burst is ugly... but wouldn't be at all suprised if I change my mind completely once I see the real deal I cant wait! - Dan
Drak
That's cool, different strokes for different folks, I think that scheme is the coolest green guitar I've ever seen, and well, since I'm gonna be the one strappin' that bad seed on, hehehe... GF, that's cool, I'm probably just going the other direction for now, having spent a lot of time with reds, browns, oranges, etc...
Mr.Churchyard
Drak, I for instance love that sourburst. Let's see how you do it. Stunning work so far.
RGGR
I do like Darrens mock-up. (I believe it was Darren doing mock-ups for Jeremy.) This is similar execution, I don't like so much. If you stay close to original it could be stunning.
Drak
Wow, thanks for that! The more examples of the same look, the better it helps me define exactly what to shoot for ( ) and what to avoid, that pic helps me a lot. PS, I sort of like that one too, but not as much. One of the reasons I like Darren's mockup is that is has a really delicate shading scheme, some bursts are so ehhh, 'heavy handed', but this one is really gentle and delicate, it takes a lot more work and effort to get it like the mock-up pic as opposed to the second example. Another point I'm pondering is that I want to do -some- grain enhancement, this figure is extreme quilt, but too much enhancement and the look will be overbaked ( ), so I'm rolling that one over in my head how to do the grain enhancement just as delicately as that great delicate shading coat is done. Really looking forward to trying this out.
RGGR
Here is some more inspiration - this guitar is Rob Balducci's new Ibanez guitar. http://www.tremol-no.com/images/BALsourapple/full.jpg http://www.tremol-no.com/images/BALsourapple/back.jpg http://www.tremol-no.com/images/BALsourapp...ront%20body.jpg http://www.tremol-no.com/images/BALsourapple/side.jpg http://www.tremol-no.com/images/BALsourapple/side.jpg I don't like the big route behind the tremolo, and would have executed the sourburst differently. I do like the lower off-set dots in the neck. Very cool idea. Here's link to Jemsite thread: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.p...hlight=balducci I can't wait to see how yours will come out. skibum5545
Wow... it is quite an honor to know I have had a hand in one of Drak's creations. Here's Warmoth.com's take on the finish: Greenburst Tele Good luck!

Drak
Thank you all for the pics, they are just more proof to shoot -exactly- for the mockup version, I love it.
johnsilver
Hey Drak. I noticed the time of your last post. Having another "nooner" with your Tele?

Drak
I fear Java will be very unhappy with me, as once I decided on the sourburst, all the hardware appointments changed. It will no longer be a country Tele, it's gonna be a blues or rock machine now. I can't believe I'm going to do what I have in mind, I have a lot of respect for Teles! TenderSurrender
A floyded Tele That would be amazing ~~ Slain Angel ~~
Drak
I will be in enough hot water with the traditional Tele crowd as it is, what with a green quilted Tele...a Floyded Tele is more Blaspemous than Blasphemy itself, I cannot do that out of respect and my love for everything Telecaster. Besides, I have 2 or 3 coming up that ARE very country/southwestern Tele, and don't want to have to kiss up too much to get back in good with the trad crowd.
