rhoads56
yo, FINALLY.... got this guitar making school off the ground. The first bunch of students are about a 1/3 of the way through now. The info is fast and intense, very hands on. Initially i wanted 6 as a minimum, or preferrable 8 students, but decided for some silly reason to knock a few off and run it with only 4. Wow, glad i did, any more than four would creat too many bottle necks on the machinery.

Duff Beer Man
rhoads where do u live im coming to join lol.... no, well maybe, but anyway thats a really cool idea i dig it...
rhoads56
actually, really well. Im impressed. All four guys have no prior wood working experience, so they are learning as they go. They are grasping the concepts really well, and we havent lost any fingers yet! The only thing the guys havent done themselves, is the cutting and gluing of the scarf joint. I didnt think we would have the time, so i did that prior to the first session. But, we had a bit of space last week so i demonstrated how i do that also. Too far for just a basic course, told him to get on PG and learn all he wants Maybe i could organise an international course
rhoads56
How long is your course running? ← Two nights a week, for five weeks, plus a machinery use and safety course to start off with.
Drak
Is that your shop or some other place? It looks really comfortable in there.
rhoads56
"Fremantle School of Fine Furniture" supply the workshop. My workshop is about the size of one of their workbenches Outside that big sliding door, is a carpark for the workshop. At the end on the carpark (150 feet, if that) is the Indian Ocean. Nice location!!
crafty
Yeah, I thought that bandsaw looked a little massive for a luthier's shop...
rokeros
hey its me: I live in Waterford and often go to Applecross during the summer. Is ur school near there? Just wandering. Ash HK
rhoads56
Applecross is two minutes from my house, which is five minutes from both my workshop, and the school You do know where Fremantle is right

Phil Mailloux
I like that trusty truss rod cutterrer jiggy thing. What kind/size of bit do you use with it?
rhoads56
couldnt tell you the size, all i know is its the perfect width. Never measured the truss rod width, just eyeballed it.
Mickguard
So are they wearing earplugs, or are they just posing for the photos and that's why they're not wearing any safety gear? Don't see any respirators either. Not to be annoying, maybe Australia isn't as litigious as the States...
rhoads56
no safety gear at all?? I see glasses on, even when they are using those deadly rulers and pencils, and we have foamie ear plugs. Thanks for your concern, you'll just have to trust i know what im doing. That ok? rokeros
You know where fremantle is right? ← Yer, sure I do. down south or something like that. All I know is that they have good fish and chips there. A good place to hang out with the family and the park is pretty cool. Oh ya and the massive ships in fremantle, but thats just about it. Exept that my aunt's mother in law is burried in the fremantle cemetary. Hehe. Ash HK
