Guitarfrenzy
I say go for it, although I've never made a Strat using Mahogany either. You should get a good tone, as there are people who have used Mahogany before, and even Fender has some models that use Mahogany. If you need any guidance on building a Strat, you can read my old pictorial at this link.... Hopefully it will help your building go smoother. Good luck.. thegarehanman
I'm a sucker for the sound of a 24.75" scale length, all mahogany guitar with the classic jb/jazz combo.
Odin
I have made one. With humbuckers...so maybe its not right to call it a strat. But anyway it got the comfort and beauty of the strat and the tone of the les paul (more or less). Great combination! Go for it
MzI
I made one with a neck thru, jb and jazz humbuckers, tom with strings thru, and 24.75 scale. Sounds pretty good. Nothing like a strat but I wasnt going for that anyways MzI
SawDust_Junkie
I'm curious, of those here who have made a Strat with Mahogany, did you use a Maple top ? Did this give the same tone as LP, if you used single coils, or did you use HBs ?
Odin
No maple top on mine. Im planing to build a mahogany strat with cherry top.
crafty
The guy from Weezer used a mahogany strat made from Warmoth parts for just about everything '94 and back. Forget about it sounding like a Les Paul. It's not going to happen if you build it like a Strat. Even a PRS built like an LP in the shape of a Strat can't quite nail it. MzI
One of the other strats I built was a mahogany back with a maple top, but it had a tom strings thru and hums. I did split both hums which gave it a really cool sound. I did have a kind of lp sound. didnt really sound like a strat at all, plus it was really heavy. redwhiteandthemaple
Cool... A jack plate on the back. Is that comfortable??? That looks nothing like a strat except the body shape and the neckwood.. Hey maxi. What are you going to make your neck out of? And also is it -through, set, or bolton neck?? Guessing it will be bolt most likely. -IR
Mattia
My first was a warmoth parts guitar, mahogany body (no cap), mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, vintage-style trem, and....EMGs, Piezos, lots of knobs and switches. So, like, no, it doesn't sound like a strat or a Les Paul. Nice guitar, though.

Nice point mattia.
maxi450
maiden69 is that a regular tune-o-matic bridge on you guitar, do you have an angled neck pocket or did you sink the bridge a little

Daniel Sorbera
a strat instead of the usual lp shape everyone does with the wood. Can you spot why this statement makes no sense Look, if you don't wan't to make a LP because it's what "everyone else does" (I've only seen a few LP guitars on here) than why would you wan't to make a strat Same problem, but more so!! Strat throwing down some sketches and make your own body design if you wan't something unique. Edited February 16, 2006 by Godin SD

maxi450
what i was saying Godin is that most of the time i think mahogany is used for the bigger bodied guitars like a lp. i like the lp shape but want to make a strat out of mahogany for something different . Maiden69
Maiden69 How is that paint holding up and how long ago did you put that finish on it? I have painted 3 guitars with createx, and they are just fine. It is a great paint, and it dries in minutes under a "heat" source. Also it is water based and have no problem with any type of top coat.
