fryovanni
well with this one i have no intention of changing it. if you put some kind of point on the other side, it will dig into your leg when you are sitting down. i have experimented with a ton of different shapes, and this is the conclusion. i wont be changing it. Then don't ask other people for their thoughts on the design sorry, but im not trying to sound like some people on here who ask for an opinion and compltley ignore it. but still, i diddnt ask how to improve it. i think it is well thought out. i wanted to see if people liked it, not for people to tell me what i did wrong. Sorry I didn't give you my opinion(but, seeing your responce it looks like that is what you would like to hear). My honest take on the shape, it does not appeal to me. I still don't think that makes much difference as it is what you like that counts. P.S. I was going to respond in one of your other build topics, but had to run. Your routes (pickups and control) look really clean and tidy on the carved top. Nice work mister

Bassisgreat
I think the carve improved the looks alot, I'll be looking forward to seeing how this one turns out!
killemall8
carved a bit on the back too, and a belly carve. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k.../DCAM0038-4.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k.../DCAM0039-4.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k.../DCAM0040-4.jpg
mattharris75
This would look good adding some classic elements. Definitely a pickguard. This is looking like a 'metal mosrite'.
killemall8
i really really hate pickguards with a passion...
mattharris75
I'm not generally a huge fan of them, at least on natural finished guitars. But sometimes they just seem to fit certain designs. With the shape you've got there and the way you've carved it, it just says 'metal mosrite' to me. What can I say?
killemall8
i dont know, i just hate them. i also hate mosrites. wich is wierd because all my carves end up looking like them. hmmm. o well. i will probably just sell this body anyway, it isnt a high priority project. weezer2112
Here's a pointy baritone I just finished. 30" scale, fretless 5 string, tuned in fifths, low to high FCGDA. Ash body, with green transtint and 6 coats of tung oil. Maple neck with cocobolo fingerboard. Hand wound the pickups, crafted and polished the stainless steel bridge. What do you all think? Eric. Andronico
Beautiful ! Have you a better pic of the fingerboard ? The cocobolo looks fantastic !
weezer2112
I don't, sorry. My camera leaves a lot to be desired. This shot might be better.
Mattia
I'd call that a short-scale bass, based on the a) 5 strings and fretlessness, really. Or at least not really a baritone guitar. I know there's not really any standard, but what I call a baritone is something guitar-like, with a long scale, that is played essentially like a normal guitar (chording, strumming, fingerpicking, lead, rhythm are all feasible). Whatever it is, thought, it's funky!

Whatever it is, thought, it's funky! Thanks, glad you like it! I"ve been refering to it as a baritone mostly due to the fifths tuning. With the equivalent of 27 frets and the high string being tuned to A it gets well into guitar range. The low F is, of course, just a half step up from the low E on a Fender or Dano bari, but you're right, the fretlessness really throws it all out the window! So I haven't been actually calling it a baritone guitar, just a baritone. And yeah, people have asked me " a baritone what?", and I just tell 'em " you decide!" Now here's a 5 ftring fretless bass! killemall8
looks good! but if i decide to finish this, it wont be a baritone after all. i only downtune to d anyway, and that still sounds good on most. but i still might sell this body. killemall8
i changed the lower horn a bit, so it looks a little more semmetrical to the upper horn. i thing it looks a lot better. back front straight away again
mynamesucks
That lower horn looks sweet, I love guitars which combine hard edges and smooth contours. Top work mate!
Xanthus
Looks much better now with the bevels on it And I'd love to hear what one of those 5-string fretless bassitars sound like!!
Bygde
Cool shape! I really think you should finish this one. Why not (as you have written earlier) make it a 7-stringer? Would be cool! Or better yet, Baritone 7-string
killemall8
thanks. i was really thinking about doing a 7, but i dont think i will. i think if the funds allow it, i will make the neck a 3 piece lam of curly maple/, walnut or cocobolo/ curly maple. Bygde
Nice! Will look really good. Decided on baritone or regular scale yet?
killemall8
regular scale. ive tried out some barries latley and i dont like them as much as i thought. so i will go with a regular 24.75 scale.
