WezV
Im sure i'm not the only one seeing this very good, maybe it needs an inlay How did you choose the fifthe fret to be the center fret? i have always thought between 3rd and 9th makes most sense, stuck around 7 so far but on this one i have a bigger scale difference and a different player - so 5th was chosen and it looks damn good on paper for their ergonomic properties (am I right to assume this is a big reason for it?) the way i see it any guitar can benefit from being made this way, it is more comfy and provides more even tension across the strings, although i must admit i havnt actually done the maths to back that up - i am going on practical experience with different scales and string gauges i think a lot of people only see it as worth it for ERG's or ERB's and they are missing many of the benefits this system offers... a lot of the advantages you see across 8 strings are still very apparent over

Xanthus
I want. To build. A multiscale. So bad.... It's looking pretty nifty, Wez, and a choice top as well. Judging by the schematics, the runners in the neck will make excellent natural 'pinstripes!'
WezV
Judging by the schematics, the runners in the neck will make excellent natural 'pinstripes!' yeah, same as the last one i did, except this one has mahogany where that had bubinga

Xanthus
Nice fretboard picture! But what's the deal with that nut? The fretboard at the nut end seems to be slanting in the opposite way it should be.....
WezV
Nice fretboard picture! But what's the deal with that nut? The fretboard at the nut end seems to be slanting in the opposite way it should be..... the shape of the fretboard is the shape of a normal parallel frets board, the extra bit doesnt angle the opposite way but these things can do funny things to your eyes... especially when i lie it down on a worktop with a strong grain pattern and take a photo from an angle i havnt quite decided what to do behind the nut so i havnt sliced that extra bit off... i was toying with the idea of doing a fender style nut slot and tapering that bit down into the headstock face, but i will probably just slice it off and have a normal nut
WezV
so, big ole hunk of mahogany marked out there is a couple of knots and discoloured sections in the plank but the wings for this guitar are priority so get the best bit. here it is all cut: a whole other set of body wings available to me - albeit probably paint grade but definatly too nice to waste... got some thin slices off the wings for a cavity cover as well so here are the wings and me tapping the big plank before i started cutting
Bygde
I REALLY like the bodyshape! Traditional, yet weird. The top looked really beautiful as well!
WezV
the fretboard has been stuck on so it was time to sort out the neck angle - this was cut into the body section of the neck through blank. The back was planed flat - the front will all be levelled off ready for the maple cap once the wings are glued on and with wings placed next to it - not quite in the right place
WezV
awaiting its maple cap
WezV
got the top sorted tonight first job was to roughly cut the top to an oversized shape and then a 'neck pocket' was cut out to allow it to sit over the raised fretboard you will notice the pocket has a round end and the neck has a square end. This was done to allow some wiggle room in placing the top. it leaves a slight gap at the end of the fretboard but that isnt a problem as it is where the neck pickup will be - it was a safety precaution to save me killing this top. what you cant see is that the joined top also has a layer of dark veneer on the back so that will form an accent line around the edge once its all trimmed back its now all in the clamps!! DC Ross
Very nice, what are you using for the black accent?
WezV
its a wenge veneer, so not quite solid black - but a nice contrast between the light honey coloured mahogany and maple
