westhemann
i just installed mine yesterday.got the material from stewmac but all it is is round plastic in about 8" lengths.simple to install too.i drilled the holes, super glued it in(the whole length)then when the glue was dry i used a sharp chisel and a hammer to cut it off flush. westhemann
toothpicks would be good in a dark board.
Lex Luthier
I can't remember who, but someone suggested using brazing rods Yeah, all my fingerboards have been dark so far, so I use 1/16" mild steel welding/brasing rod. Got a couple rods of it from a welding supply store for free. Wish I had gotten aluminum though, it's alot softer, and won't rust.
DannoG
Hobby shops sell brass and aluminum rods in various sizes for quite cheap. I have bought both in 1/16 inch. Yes, the alum. rod is soft, easy to use and won't rust.
ryeisnotcool2
i use the brazing rods, you can get them at depot in the tool section aluminum or brass, dont worry about the white flux on the brass, it scrapes off really easy. JohnJohn
This might sound kinda out there, but you can use coloured lead. It's available at any office or art supply store and in a lot more colours.
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Coloered lead doesnt sound good. A wire coar hanger does. Also toothpics are wood. Any color in the rainbow is within reach! Thank God for wood dye

antique_dream
while we're on the subject, where do you get glow in the dark material for side dots/inlays?
JohnJohn
Hey Litch,I know the lead thing sounds silly, but give it a try on some scrap it's not too bad. However, you are right that you gotta be really careful with the sanding. Especially on maple(found that one out the hard way with Royal Blue-yikes). As for the glow in the dark, most Dollar store sell all kinds of glow in the dark toys and jewlery, maybe something from there might be the right size? Scott Rosenberger
Go to the local office supply store and get yourself a little notebook with plastic spiral binding and cut off a piece to use for side dots. Toothpicks work well and you can dye them with foodcoloring.
Scott Rosenberger
You can also try those Round wooden BBQ Skewers if you need larger dots than toothpicks can provide
