10pizza
here we go again. this will be a build based on my last one, the prototype Swel AT1. goal is to learn from my mistakes building the first one and improve on aesthetics and finish. Like the blue one before, this will be a nice color finish. Last week started with preparations for neck, yesterday did some routing, drilling and sawing. One of the things I learned from last build that it's hard to get a nice output jack access drilled at an angle to the body, so I drilled it before I sawed out the body. also last time I used the router to route the complete cavities for pickups. Could have saved me a lot of time by predrilling, which I did now. I'm also keeping track of hours spent on this one. routing the headstock after joint-gluing pre-drilling having fun result so far

10pizza
found a few spare hours again yesterday, so did some work on my neck, routing it to desired thickness and shaping it after rough saw. Also routed the truss rod. Again I'm using material that I have lying around, so using a body-side trussrod-adjustment with a wheel. Used that on my first build as well, pretty happy with it. But... while preparing a setup to remove 5mm of the back of the neck I made a rookie mistake .... forgot to fasten the router bit so the routing depth went everywhere. had to glue in a piece of maple to repair it, so a lot of extra work because of a stupid little mistake. Got the neck-pocket and bridge pickup routed as well. I'm using EMG pickups I have for this build, found out I need to make a new template for routing the singlecoil EMG first. Something for next week! pictures: truss routing, fixing mistake and the result so far.

10pizza
Oh yeah Tomorrow I will be going to my friends workshop. Finally some time to work on this project. Will also be bringing some wood for the next one. First some routing and shaping on this one!
10pizza
Only had a few hours but managed to do most of my list for today: routing neck-pickup to fit body mounted EMG pickup. Routed the control cavity to also fit a battery for the EMG pickups I'll use on this one. Routed the neckpocket some more and shaped the neck for a tight fit. Looks like I'll need to deepen the neckpocket a bit further. Next saturday another chance to do some more work. Then it'll be shaping time and drilling holes for the neck-screws. some pictures:
10pizza
While using my G&W miter box last weekend I found out I forgot to loosen the bolts after using it last time. Now they were stuck and I messed up the allen-bolts while trying to loosen it probably a good idea to oil or wax them for smooth tightening/loosening. Managed to use it, but need to replace 2 of the bolts used for fixing the height rollers.

Happy that I can use it now and then when the place is available. but it's nice to have access to a big planer, bandsaw en proper workbenches!

At the course we have access to a similar looking circular saw. Most of the big professional power tools there belong to the city carpentry department, they build and fix all kind of furniture needed in public places like schools. Last year they furnished the woodworking shop of a school, making hand tool cabinets. Imagine a two metre high, one metre wide and half a metre deep cabinet with fittings for hammers, chisels, files etc., all made of 18 mm baltic birch plywood. Just think about the weight!
10pizza
managed to do some work last saturday. Shaped the body with the shinto and routed the fretboard on the neck, sanded the headstock. Also created a recess for the electronics cavity cover. Next up is body sanding/filling/priming/painting and neck shaping. I'm thinking of putting wax or lacquer on the maple neck to give it some protection and yellowish finish. Any recommendations? Any recommendations? Osmo. They have various products, some more suitable to maple than others at least according to their site. The product numbering may also have changed. I've been very happy with that, both on guitars and floors.
