nakedzen
Build #10 is 35" neckthrough 4-string bass, qs maple neck, ash wings, zebrano fretboard. EMG actives, Schaller hardware. Was going to do ziricote veneer but the one I have is too small for the top. I'll have to see if I can piece it together and hide the seam. Bizman62
The lower bout looks interesting!
nakedzen
It does! I want to make something that looks like an ink splotch. Inspired by the ESP RM-DA model.
Bizman62
An ink splotch, huh? Sounds inspirative! Knowing your idea. allow me to point my finger to a less splotchy spot: Splotches tend to have round inner curves and either round or sharp spurts from the main puddle. Your cutaway doesn't seem to follow that, there's a gap in the continuity. Either make both cutaways curve up towards the headstock like in the ESP or connect the cutaways under the fretboard - did that make sense? The former might be easier to double the idea of the lower bout. Something very vaguely like this:
nakedzen
Thanks for the suggestion, but nah. I'll do it my way.

nakedzen
Some progress. I think I'll save the ziricote for later builds. Did the truss channel and pickup route.
nakedzen
Drilled the wire channel and hogged some material from the control cavity, glued the rough cut wings on. Rough cut the neck shape w/ bandsaw too.
nakedzen
Slowly moving towards a carve. Trying to make this look "funky" if it makes sense.
Bizman62
I take my suggestion back, this is starting to make much more sense!
Andyjr1515
I like how that carve is developing
nakedzen
Thanks! Always a great feeling when you have a neck carve that feels good. It's starting to feel more like an instrument. The color scheme will be pretty obscene. Pink to purple to blue fade. Like those NASA galaxy renditions always have.
nakedzen
Clown dots going on. Really liking the back. They ended up looking the same orange color for up to 15th fret, then just blue from there.
nakedzen
Bit of hardware testing, drilling holes. All these wonky lines really baffle they eye. Fret dots test

nakedzen
Thanks! It really looks weird. Now at least with color! Tru-oil going on, just had to check with hardware. Oops bridge not quite where it should be. Matching truss cover with uv resin.
nakedzen
Tuner holes drilled. Here's the back.
nakedzen
Logo and frets done. Now just need to get the tuners and play some psycheledic mushroom jazz on this.
Charlie H 72
Totally bonkers!! I love the gradient from pink to blu on the back-wish there was a little more of that on the front.
nakedzen
Thanks! I did the back first to test which colors to use. Long story short, I did the fade with waterbased purple and the pink and blue are alcohol based dyes, which turned out a right pita to get to fade without hard lines. So for the front I just mixed the blue and pink to get a purple. Not as strong as the back but much easier to handle.
nakedzen
Got the tuners finally. They sent the wrong set, 4L instead of 2r+2l. Oh well, I'm not waiting through the hassle of returning and maybe getting a replacement in a month or so. Looks wacky, but so is the build.
