MKGBass
i must admit that I hate strats....but not that one. Whoa indeed. The binding is geniously perfect. If you don't GOTM this when its done, I'll find you and destroy you. What the neck gonna be?

tsl602000
I still haven't decided what to use for the control cavity cover. What do you guys think about this:
MKGBass
the shadow gave me a nifty idea.... Use that, but bind it in black to match the top... Just a thought mitch
westhemann
wow ,coen...that binding REALLY shows off that spalt...it is like a picture frame complimenting a work of art.....i am envious....and i have never said that about a strat before
tsl602000
The binding was Alex' idea.. I was in doubt what color to use... I hate black pickup covers, so I was first shooting for a white binding to complement the pup covers.... I'm glad I finally went for the black binding. Be careful when you use a hairdryer to bend the binding... Alder is prone to cracks when it gets heated...
westhemann
Be careful when you use a hairdryer to bend the binding... Alder is prone to cracks when it gets heated... yes and it is best to finish as soon as possible because of that same habit....anytime i leave alder sitting with a fresh cut for more than a few weeks it splits
renablistic
wow ,coen...that binding REALLY shows off that spalt...it is like a picture frame complimenting a work of art.....i am envious....and i have never said that about a strat before i must admit that I hate strats....but not that one. OMFG!!!!!!! I LOOOOVE IT!!! I hate strats with a passion, but HOT DANG IS THAT NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!! -John
tsl602000
btw... it looks like I used some filler on the alder... but I didn't.. there's a bit of spalt in the alder it self. I have another stratbody from the same chunk of wood and the figuring is insane!
BLS
That binding acents the spalted maple PERFECTLY. Great Job!

Drak
I love it cuz it looks so individualistic, not like a cookie-cutter copy. It shows some thought went into the idea first, before it was built. The black binding was mad genius idea. I always default to white-edged binding too, it would have taken some convincing to make me use black like that, but I'm glad you listened to Alex. It's gonna be a great guitar. For some weird reason, when I look at it I think of Adrien Belew doing those wild elephant noises on 'Elephant Talk' (King Crimson)...no idea why... tsl602000
It shows some thought went into the idea first, before it was built. Not really... I made a bid for fun on the spalt and I never thought I'd win it. I had some Alder laying around that was too thin to make a solid body out. One day when I couldn't do much because I was waiting for some parts, I just started shaving and routing. I already had a Tele shape drawn on the wood and was ready to saw.. then all of a sudden I changed my mind and went for the strat shape. I only did the binding because I had to practise a binding for a custom bass I'll have to build...
Hotrock
Just out of curiosity... ...How much would you expect to get for that body? (providing you're gonna flog it of course)
tsl602000
...How much would you expect to get for that body I dunno... but I won't sell it anyway
Hotrock
Don't blame you. I thought it might be for a customer I'd frame it and put it on the wall.
tsl602000
no sir... I'll actually play this guitar... unless it comes out as a POS.. then I might just hang it on the wall
tsl602000
Drak, What do you think of the control cavity control plate?
john
i really dig the control cavity cover! , excellent job dude. thats gonna be one fine axe!
commidaddy
Sweet guitar! Man...I wish I lived near you whenever you get it finished so that I could hear how it sounded and see it in person....haha I talk about it like it's a legend;) lol but yeah very nice! btw, what does POS mean?
Drak
I like it except for the fact that the grain doesn't follow the grain either on the front or back, it looks 'sideways'...just me... If you had a piece that had the grain following the same direction as everything else, it would be perfect. Maybe even bind it.
tsl602000
I agree, but that would mean I'd have to sacrifice a top for just a cover plate..... I took the cover plate out of a spalted top that's slighly too long. I'll think about the binding.......
