Ditto here!

The little screws on my Les Paul's pickups are starting to rust, I'm so excited :D

I'm not sure i like relics and such, because if ur guitar looks real rough and rusted, etc., people that don't know anything abot guitars think it's a bad guitar, and you dont get taken seriously, but i do like seeing them B) just not having them

The stripes on the headstock are on the face only.

As for sanding, this was my method:

- Sand the already painted body (factory finish) with 600 grit dry paper to remove any sign of gloss.

- Prime with PPG primer

- wet sand with 800 grit to get a uniform finish

- Spray with PPG polyurithane White.

- Wet sand with 1000 grit for a smooth finish

- mask up the body and spray PPG "Base Coat" red

- mask up the body and spray PPG "Base Coat" black

- DO NOT SAND either "Base Coat"!!!!!!!!!!!

- Spray PPG Poly clear

- Wet sand with 1500 grit to a smooth finish

- Spray with 2nd coat of PPG Poly Clear

- Wet sand with 1500 grit to a smooth finish

- Spray with 3rd coat of PPG Poly Clear

- Wet sand with 1500, then 2000, then buff.

Im not saying that this is the best way, but it works for me. And remember, Im using Automotive 2 part poly paint, not acrylic or nitro. This stuff hardens like plastic within hours of applying.

Looks great, right now I don't have access to equipment to shoot the 2 part stuff so I am using acrylic spray from duplicolor. I saw that you did those logos earlier but I thought they were transparencies, they look like water decals, what are they? is it easy to get? Can't say this enough great job man!

This may seem like a wierd question, but were the black and red stripes raised above the white base coat since you were painting red and then black over an already painted white surface?

Does that make sense? It seems like when masking like this, every subsequent color you paint on over it will appear "higher" than the others, before you clear coat of course. Is this visible? Or does the clear coat take care of this?

  • 2 weeks later...

Its almost finished, Ive done the last flow coat of clear, and assembled the guitar. It plays beautifully with a nice low action. There is an ever so slight orange peel finish in the paint but Im going to wait a month or so before I block it back and polish it. Its really glossy now but its gonna look unbeleivable when its buffed out. Ill get some pics up tonight.

BeAr, I've been following you r progress and since I was redoing my LP, I decided that I was going to do flames... but that turn out a little bit out of my experience, so I said why not a EVH type LP, so I decided that using the colors that I had choosen for the flames, to do a striped LP, here is as link , you migh have seen it but I guess I should let you know.
