CodFather
nope, you can work there at 16, well in england you can. You can't work full time untill you 18 but part time should be fine for a 16 year old
frankie
heck yeah dude, i live in oklahoma btw. do you work there??
Devon Headen
I have a friend who wanted to apply, but he's only 17. GC policy says you have to be 18 is what they told him.
frankie
Maybe they just didn't wanna hire him?? I looked at their online application and there was a space that said something like Are you under the age of 18? ____________________ so, do they just throw all those out or something??? that's messed up
Devon Headen
Probably...that's why they asked the question...might as well apply. All they can do is turn you down
truerussian558
well the "say" they dont discriminate by age , race, and other things but i think the age thing is a load of bull they do descriminate, but i also think they have to ask if your under 18 because different labor laws apply to minors
frankie
Screw it, I'll just start my own chain of musical equipment called " Better Than Guitar Center" It'll be awesome.
lovekraft
Hey, Frankie, can you make it a rule at your stores that there is always somebody in the store who can read and write and doesn't think that blues means The White Stripes and classic rock means Nirvana? I'll be your customer for life!
jefm
Asking that you be an adult is not age discrimination...Some industries it's a requirement...Just like being drinking age to work in a bar... A lot of trades accept people as young as 16....customer related businesses usually require 18 and up.... there's not much reason to justify the potential issues with hiring people under
frankie
Yeah at my store there won't be idiots who like the White Stripes. Anybody who thinks the White Stripes are awesome should get beat up.
soapbarstrat
Some of the crappy stuff they sell at GC is quite obscene. You have to be at least 18 to view obscenity.
Gorecki
I use to work at GC in Oakland, CA and Berkeley, CA and San Francisco, CA for about 4 years total. Granted I wouldn't call it a place to go looking for a career but we had a lot of fun in Oakland some days. B

B I wonder if the one in Oakland is the same one I bought my second Fender at in 1986 (which went down in value, while a used one I could have bought instead would be worth 3 -4 times more now). That Oakland store seemed to be the smallest GC I was ever in. I think it was even considered a bad neighborhood. I hadn't bought anything at a GC for about 16 years until early this year. I had to have the store manager take care of my special order because the "salepeople" didn't know how to do their job.
