southpaw rocker
This is my first building project, so please, all you guys who have done this 600 times, try not to laugh. it's four piece top (none bookmatched but all from the same plank, it's cost me $1.50) and the seams show. I gotta fill this crack in the top at least I got the monkey grip right (but it's a pain to sand)

Slabbefusk
Real nice, but isn't the lower horn a little thin? Rock on
skibum5545
Is it just me or is the edge roundover larger than on your average jem style guit? I really like it, it looks like a jem with a little bit of the metally edge taken off and replaced by classic wood looks. I like it a lot! Maiden69
Real nice, but isn't the lower horn a little thin? Rock on I think it looks thin because its carved, the JEM is not... atleast the CAD I downloaded.
southpaw rocker
your both right, it's a little thin because It was my first experience with a band saw I contoured the edge because the top was a little too small but it brought the edge of the quilt out nicely. american_jesus
for a buck fiddy, that's a pretty sweet lookin top. i like the dark swipe down the middle, it gives a cool contrast. and everything definately looks good. i like the tamer shape of yours. krazyderek
looks like a bubble jem cause it's all round hehe
southpaw rocker
I've always liked sharp contours but, gees, i always ended up cutting myself to contrast the light top i'm going to have black hardware. I've already ordered a black wilkinson for it among other things
Nouseforone
i really like that top, for 1.50 ..a great deal
Meegs666
i love that. that is truly an amazing job, even if the quilt top isnt a perfect one piece. i wish i could do something that well but i have to stick to easy shapes like v's and the like. it reminds me of one of those carvin strats where you can get quilt tops and such. its like how carvin would do a jem. i think a burst could hide the joining lines on the top, if you really wanted to. southpaw rocker
ironically, my inspiration for this guitar is a carvin TL60. there was enough left of that quilt maple to do a second top. i haven't seen that one yet as my friend whose letting me use his shop tools has that one and i haven't been back since we glued that one. the body has now been sanded to 320(wet) and is ready to stain.I've found a couple cans of minwax stain but I'm still experimenting. i want to do it as natural as possible but i want to see the quilt and not sqwiggly grain lines. Thanks for all the compliments. After seeing this body i've had some guys ask me to build them a guitar!
southpaw rocker
here's the link for that TL60... http://www.carvin.com/guitars-in-stock/big/65832b.jpg
southpaw rocker
Just an update.... It's been so humid here that i came home to a body with seams pulling apart and had to draw them back together with a wash cloth. i'm eager now to get staining so i can seal this thing up.
