Nalo1022
I just got and epiphone les paul as a project. It was used adn the perosn changed the pickups to an SD 59 in the neck and a Dimarzio in the bridge so im set on the pickiups but the tunersneed to be swapped out and i was wondering wat ppl would suggest for good tuners that arent really expensive. Im thinking about locking tuners seeing as i bend alot and dont want to have to retune all the time
LukeR
Hi, I think Gotohs are FAIRLY inexpensive, as tuners go... Mightymite also are cheap, but they are generally not regarded as particularly good... I definately think Gotoh would be the way to go- they are relatively inexpensive (compared to Kluson, etc) and they wont let you down Cheers, luke
darren wilson
What kind of tuners are on there right now?

iskim86
What kind of tuners are on there right now? must be the Epiphone brand ones made in korea.
Scott Rosenberger
Grovers are probably a direct fit but I can't say for sure without seeing the guitar
Nalo1022
no actually they arent the orginal epiphone tuners , they are gibson tuners butt he are 6 in a line style so all the tuners on the left of the headstock are backwards technically adn that really messes with their performance. I got this guitar for 180 because the headstock is beat up and has some chipping from the previous owner and what appears to be a bad tuner upgrade but it plays great etc.
darren wilson
Ouch. I hate it when people do stuff badly, especially when it results in more holes in the guitar, and particularly in a relatively weak area like the headstock. I would also hazard a guess that the tuners are probably compatible with Grovers. You can get Grover locking tuners at WD.
MzI
how much is expensive like whats ur price range, i use sprezel lockers on most of my guitars and they work great, only thing is they come in satin finish and not gloss MzI
slipperywombat
If you disregard the money aspect, how to tuners stack up? There seems to be a lot of talk on the net about stability in tuners, and I've heard basically every brand bashed in this area. When talking about decent brands, which ones are truly good? Kluson? Gotoh? Schaller?
Nalo1022
well im not too picky about price but id like to cheap under 100 and closer to 50 if possible. Im looking at these tuners they are in my price range are locking and i like the vintage look.

Nalo1022
crap i didnt even notice that..... does anyone know ofa vintage looking locking tuner?
slipperywombat
Grover's lockers don't have those big gear dealies on the back, they automatically lock as you tighten, if that's what you mean by "Traditional".
Nalo1022
no be vintage i mean how the cassing and stem etc look Vintage and Not Vintage see how they look diffrent thats what i mean. I think those look better on a les paul
Meegs666
to be quaint, id say that planet waves new ones look pretty cool. they trim the string and lock it in the post. i would try them out but i have to tune differently so often that i just havent gotten the chance. but i myself would go with the grovers, i have them on all of my guitars except the dano. Nalo1022
this may be be a dumb question but should i be looking for a higher gear ratio (18:1 opposed to 14:1)?
Meegs666
a higher gear ration means you can more finely tune the string with the tuner. i have seen a type of extremely expensive tuner that has a 40:1 ratio. i forget the name tho, but it wasnt a knob, it had a shaft that you would twist. litchfield
LSR And the planet waves have the exact same mounting as grovers
