  1. Hmm...I don't see any misplaced inlays. They all look like they're in the same positions to me Great work Hyunsu. A true Luthier!
  2. Sounds cool to me. Can't hear any bass though but that has a cool beat and the drummer is sounding good! WoW! Early teens! F'n rockin'. I REALLY like your drummer. Stick together, you guys will be pros in no time!
  3. Mostly strumming: "Daughter" by Pearl Jam sounds pretty good on a 12. So does the Black Crowes "She Talks to Angels" Finger picking: I like playin "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas on a 12 too. "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" Led Zeppelin "Dog & Butterfly" by Heart Finger picking and strumming combined: "Seasons" by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Audioslave singer) and his acoustic version of "Just Like Suicide" I really like. "Tree top Flier" by Steven Stills sounds good but some of the string bends are a bitch on a 12. "Over the Hills and Far Away" Led Zeppelin, easy to play and sounds cool.
  4. I did alot of just hitting record as I practiced and some of it came out pretty cool and spontaneous (to me) but like a dumbass I didn't back any of it up except for a couple songs (I know, I'm a moron). My computer crashed and I had to format the drive and lost almost all my recordings. I had so many cool scratch pad type rythms and such I was gonna make songs with but it's all gone now My point is, make sure to back-up your recordings even if you don't think they're good. That's obvious to most but I "was gonna do it tomorrow" until the computer crashed before I took the time.
  5. Yeah, I find it odd to have SRV on a Les Paul style with active humbuckers. Looks like it took some time and skill but SRV just doesn't look right to me. I can't carve like that but if I could I would have done it differently. $6500 is a rediculous price. I know a carver that would carve me exactly what I'd want for WAAAAY less than that.
  6. Harmonizing two different guitar parts is alot harder than I thought it would be. BIG pain in the ass, for me anyways. Whenever I try I can hear places all over where instead of a nice harmony the notes get off just a little making the whole recording sound muddy and sloppy(and I need no help sounding sloppy...or muddy, hehe) Sounding good wes.
  7. I'll thickness plane it. I don't want it too thick since I'm deciding not to chamber it. I'm not sure if it's true but I've been told by another builder that when the body is too thick the string vibration transfer vibrates through the neck but when it gets to a really thick body it's like hitting a brick wall. I'm thinking 2" at the thickest point should be good. Thoughts on that anyone?
  8. YaY! Got my Dimarzio PAFs from Brian today! I've decided that since I want a carve outta this 15/16" piece of flame, and since it still needs to be bookmatched and planed, I'm going to do a flip join instead. The flame is pretty consistent all the way through so it will still look bookmatched AND I'll keep the thickness I want for a nice deep carve. Also, I'll be staining it either blue burst or dark red burst with natural binding. All my hardware is gold. STILL waiting on my darn hipshot babygrand bridge from stew-mac though. I have VERY little finishing skills (read alot of info though) so anyone have advice on which would be easier (if there's a difference in difficulty), blue burst or a dark red burst? BTW...alder back w/ flame maple top.
  9. Good luck, Southpa! Smelling like fish isn't so bad when you're getting paid bank, eh? Pretty area your goig to as well. Have fun and make money, dude!
  10. I just got layed off myself a few weeks ago. Samick bought out Kurzweil where I work and layed all us techs off except for one. They said we can still work for them as 'contract' workers since they still have lotsa work that needs to get done. This means I can work but I have to pay my own taxes and I lose all my benefits and vacation time They just announced last week that they're moving to City of Industry in CA in 2 months. Looks like I'm going back into the communications business. I'm tryin to turn all this into something good since I got my business license and a few customers but it won't sustain me yet. Good luck on the job hunting Lex!.
  11. Yeah, I agree. Two tracks give it a fuller sound. I like to record with one channel panned 3/4 left and one 3/4 right like stereo sound. Especially, when micing my acoustic but same principal when recording electric.
  12. I ordered some pickups (Dimarzio PAFs) from Brian at universaljems and I am VERY pleased at how good the prices are, how quick the service is and how well Brian communicates. He's great . I'm so stoked! I've found an excellent place for hardware through Brian, excellent body and neck blanks at USACG through Tommy and this awesome website for all the building info and links to other resources. I'm so hooked now on building with a big part of it because of you people on this forum Thanks to all of you and Thanks Brian!
  13. Looks REALLY good and I never saw the issue with the tuner holes. I don't see it at all with the tuners installed. Great work!
  14. ABSOLUTELY! Tommy is a great person to know and do bussiness with. His products are top-'o-the-line. I decided to get a neck made awhile back after playing a friends Warmoth neck. Another friend told me about Tommy and after getting my neck at USACG I showed my friend with the Warmoth neck and he's jealous! (hahaha sounds like an add on an infomercial but it's true)
  15. I'm sorry for your loss. I wished I had known him. Here's to a man that made a mark on peoples lives!
  16. That's a sweet looking project, my friend! Nice touch with the side dots. Very classy instrument in the works. Great pics too! Keep 'em coming.
  17. Sounds just fine. Keep it up and you'll be blowin' peoples minds in no time. I think it's cool that Curtis has found some friends to jam and have fun playing with. I really wished I had that when I started instead of sitting in my bedroom and making my mom listen to me playin 'Stairway' over & over & over & over..... I also think that it's cool that your posting those recordings. It'll come together just keep practicing. Throughout my whole time learning and playing experiences I've met more than my share of egotistical guitar players. Some of them sounded like crap and some of them sounded awesome. I just remind myself that there's always someone better and that I can learn from ANYONE even those that haven't been playing as long. I don't look at music as a competition but as a means to express myself. Keep an open mind and anyone that bashes your playing..... F'm ALL AND ROCK ON!
  18. Sounds like a future rock star to me.....That or Fonzarelli. That's about the best way to invest in retirement, have a kid and make them support you when your old and gray. Good luck and good health to your family, Jeff. P.S. Hope you still have my # cause I'd still like to get together next time your in town.
  19. Agreed. My desire to play has gone up and down so many times but it seems everytime I watch a band or get to jam with one it TOTALLY gets me right back into wanting to improve. Playing with other musicians can spark your creativity and desire to learn more. It takes discipline to keep improving but it has to stay fun so the desire remains. Find some other musicians to hang with, listen to and jam with seems like good advice.
  20. Shoot, I'd love to be stranded on an island with my woman! Stock up on food and supplies and off we go. Screw society!
  21. Welcome absana! You've come to the right forum but this particular part of the forum is where questions and answers on guitar 'building' is usually kept. A more appropriate place would be in the section titled 'Players Corner' for future reference. (helps keep the forum organized. I've made the same mistake myself ) It sounds like you've hit your first 'rut' as guitar players call it and it won't be your last. It's perfectly normal. Be sure to stick with it and work through it cause that's how you learn. Overcome those hurdles and you'll feel a great sense of accomplishment. Wow, that sure sounded like a surmon I'll post some ideas I've used to get out of a rut tomorrow and by that time others will have posted better information than I can give My idea of sustain in guitar playing refers to a note that continues to ring out after the string has been plucked. The longer a note will continue to ring out, the longer the sustain. A guitars body material, body shape, pickups, string gauge, bridge and nut materials are some of the things that can effect sustain. Amplifier and effects settings and even the pick material as well. There are quite a few things that affect it but I think that's the basics. Sound right, people?
