  1. thats cool it was the same on my oak i just avoided the areas that had damge though so youd never know looking at the body. Hope it turns out good.
  2. idk smoke bombs and monkey grip are high on my list of cool features i love the look of it and its not just because im a vai fan i just think its cool lol. It all goes down to what you like if you like it do it if you dont dont you dont want to end up regreting a choice later on.
  3. Definetly looks good though. I ran in to the same thing on my first refinish i ended up spending like over 200 bucks in paint and a few parts on a 180 dollar guitar. i ran into the opisite of your problem and needed to sand back down to seal. It may stink to end up spending the money but at least your learning as you go. Right now im doing a job for my friend for free and i even gave him some paint i had lying around because its giving me experince and practice. The guitar is definetly looking like it is going to turn out good and the more prep work the better. Good luck
  4. are they water damage? the oak i built my sg out of got submerged like a 1/2" in water when my basement flooded and got darck stains. You could try to sand them out if there not all the way through. Post some pics so we can all see it im sure some one has a solution.
  5. its worth a shot. Gibson made an ash sg with a mahogany neck that was nice. Ive always wanted to use regular cherry for a body but havent gotten around to it yet. IMO it should sound nice. Also it should look pretty good. good luck george
  6. ya lol it is the pics the purple is actually a blue and the green is a little brighter too im actually debating just tung oil on the body because the oak has some reall nice grain and a real nice color im not sure though its probably either naturall or tung oil at this point.
  7. that wood looks amazing. Even though alot of builders are against cnc machines looking at companys like carvin when you see there machine carving tops and all that it looks pretty cool. It is a shame that jobs are getting lost to cnc machines but they are pretty efficent and they open jobs for cnc operators. Good luck on your build.
  8. why did jackson put a veneer on a solid color guitar did it have a transparent before?
  9. hey i know you pm me but i thought i would post here i would wait if i were you and get a couple more opinions on modding it im relativly new so i dont want to advise you one way and have it be wrong. Hope this helped.
  10. thanks guys ive never done neck work so im relly glad for all the good advice hopefully i dont screw it up lol.
  11. i think fender built a strat out of acryilic one year for namm one year they ended up selling it so i guess it could be done.
  12. you could.... but you would probably make me cry lol im a huge hair band era fan so seeing that would really hurt. jk it actually could look better peavey did make there shape a little out of porportion. have you though of redoing finish and stuff like that? You probably could make a v and it might look good. Good luck.
  13. it would not be the best idea the bits that you can get for a dremel are not big enough for all that wood. You would end up breaking your bits and possibly your dremel. Your best bet is too invest in a good router or find some one who will lend you one. Hope this helped.
  14. even though its a mistake it actually looks pretty cool it stands out from a normal swirl.
  15. yup yw good luck with your build hope it turns out awesome.
  16. heres some of the finishes ive been thinking about i havent really decided yet.
  17. looking amazing! one question though how can you let your babie just lie there on the grass lol such an amazing guitar just dont let it get scratched up. Great job though that headstock looks awesome on the lp.
  18. thats wikid cool it definetlty helps to try them through your own rig. I bought a jackson randy rhoads that sounded great at the store but not so good through my rig. It actually helped though because it got me into modding my guitars i ended up throwing dimarzio evos in it and now its my main guitar. try to post some sound samples so we can hear the different tones.
  19. the neck pocket is simalar to a contoured heel or a aanj you would have to use neck ferules or a contour plate (the plate would probably be harder to find in your country. From what i can see it looks like it would be fine just keep checking the test body see if the neck moves when you do bends and stuff like that. what does merbau look like is there any way you could post a pic im always intrested in seeing new woods and i think alot of the other members are too. Good luck on your build the design looks great.
  20. Heres a pic of it up against my gibson sg faded hope you like alo a link to a new test fit test fit 3
  21. those guitars are so nice i played a cheaper model before and loved it the only problem was the shop that carryed them near me closed so i havent been able to get one yet i might build one or buy one from musicianss friend.
  22. wich one do you think sounds best they all must have such different tone. There all extremely cool looking. Especialy the first one you did that canary wood looks awesome.
  23. congrats on gotm these two are looking just as good as the first if not better your doing extremely good. I think the single cut is wikid cool looking. The double cut is really cool though too.
  24. heres some more pics. I put them in links i dont want to post too many pics and slow the loading. Headstock sg tummy contour sg neck joint
  25. try wetting the body to see how the grain looks you could find that it looks cooler then you thought. Natural mahogany with a high gloss looks really cool.
