  1. How about "none of the above"?
  2. Measure a strat. Look at the Warmoth web site. Ask somebody who knows. Guitar Ed
  3. Start with a search on Google or Yahoo! Also, check out David Allen amps. Guitar Ed
  4. Hi All, I just got my body and neck back from USACG. It is a double cut Tele, koa over mahogany. You can check it out Here. Scroll down and click on the KoaCaster. Guitar Ed
  5. Check out stewmac.com They sell guitar kits and have the instructions posted on their web site. That will get you most of the way there. Guitar Ed
  6. Just when I think that I have seen or heard pretty much about everything, a guitar with duck tape comes along. That is way cool. Way cool. Very creative and very unique. My only thought or comment is that you will probably need a very thick coat of finish on that thing to be able to level sand it. But it should look way cool. Guitar Ed
  7. Hi, From the looks of the pic, you have an old archtop guitar. You may also need a new tail piece, in addition to the bridge. In both cases, you can get what you need from StewMac. As for the neck, a reset is probably more in order than a whole new neck. A good luthier could tell you what needs to be done. Take care and take pics, Guitar Ed
  8. Playing the tuba is good for the lips. And if you decide to play the Sousaphone, or marching tuba, you will look really cool in the marching band. Trust me, I know. Ground the be-jesus out of that thing. 1) You never know what kind of environment a recording studio will offer. 2) Even if there is no RFI in the studio, it can't hurt. 3) Someday you might want to play that guitar in a high RFI environment. Just my $.03 Guitar Ed
  9. Hi Rick, I have used MusiKraft for both bodies and necks. I have had mixed results with them, but they have been very responsive. Lately I have been going with USACG because Tommy is such a nice guy, and I have been wanting some unique and bizarre stuff that USACG was best equipped to handle. One thing on MusiKraft: They are the only people that I have found who will build a Tele neck with a double action truss rod in it. Guitar Ed
  10. Gibson has a limited edition Les Paul available made from mahogany only. You can find it at GC. It sounds very nice. A bit mellower than the normal LP, but still very sweet. Guitar Ed
  11. Don't forget to account for the wood that the saw will remove. Guitar Ed Been there, didn't do that like I should have.
  12. Going in a slightly different direction.... Routing for the HBs is easy. The other issue is which hard tail bridge are you going to use? They come in two sizes: Gibson, or narrow, spacing. And Fender, or wide, spacing. The difference is 2mm, I believe from, end pole to end pole, but if you want the strings over the proper spot on the HB, you have to match the bridge and the HBs. For what it's worth, I would go with the Gibson spacing as there are more HB's available and at better prices than there are for the Fender spacing HBs. Take care, Guitar Ed
  13. I live in the San Jose CA area, and I store my woods in the garage and under the bed in the back room. I have not had any problems. Guitar Ed
  14. I know this a guy a little bit, and he has been selling some primo stuff. And he some stuff at bargain prices as well. Guitar Ed
  15. Sweet mother of pearl! Very nice looking. Very nice. Guitar Ed
  16. Before suggesting a wood, I would like to know what you are attempting to accomplish. Are you trying to make an LP or a Strat? Either guitar would require different woods, thus different costs. Guitar Ed
  17. Hi D~s, Alchohol based dyes and stains do not pop the grain like water based stains do. Guitar Ed
  18. Howdy, Personally I think that the most useful tool that I have is the wetware between my ears. It allows me to figure out what other tools I will use and when to use them. Otherwise, CHAOS would reign. Guitar Ed
  19. I just got an Epi Dot Reissue Studio for US$225. Very basic archtop guitar w/ 2 no-name HBs from Gibson, sounds a bit raw, which I like. Feels good in my hand, which I really care about. Nice bright yellow color. Yee-Hah. Guitar Ed
  20. I would suggest looking at the Fishman site. They sell peizo pickups, and they have done all of the engineering for you. The short and sweet is, assuming that you are planning to put this on an electric guitar, you can use a regular cable and run both the piezo and magnetic pups into the same amp, or you can use a stereo cable and run them into different amps. Fishman has lit about this on their web site. Guitar Ed
  21. Hi EJS, Welcome to our insanity. I enjoy it, anyways. With nitro, patience is the key. Let it sit at LEAST 2 weeks before final sanding. Letting it sit longer is not a bad idea. As for wet sanding: Yes, but use sandpaper that is set up for wet sanding. If you do a search on wet sanding or finish sanding, or check the tutorials on the main site, you will find entries covering the why's and wherefore's of wet and finish sanding. When I do a neck, I usually start with 320 grit, and go all the way to buffing compounds, because I like a very smooth and silky feeling neck. Take care and take photo's. Guitar Ed
  22. Hi Moztech, One thing that you want to consider is how "complete" the kit is that you are building. For instance, the LMII kit is the most flexible. You can build a Martin style guitar, or any other that you want. The Martin kits pretty allow you to build only a Martin. And if memory serves, the Martin kits has more of the "stuff" done for you vs. the LMII kit. I don't know for sure, but I think that StewMac kit is more in line with the Martin kit, but that is pure guess work. And one thing that I personally like about the Martin kits: They are the cheapest around, which is not bad if you don't really know what you are doing. Guitar Ed After inflation, my $.02 isn't worth very much.
  23. I think some photo's might be of value here. Guitar Ed
  24. Howdy, Having done both a belly cut and a forearm on a Tele, I would suggest some practice first. They can be a bit of a challenge to do, and a pain to finish well. At least they are for me. But then I don't know the secret. Guitar Ed
  25. Hey Lee, I have a Gibson Les Paul, and I put a Bigsby on it. One thing to consider is that you will have the Stop Bar holes left over. I have not filled mine, but that was an ethstetic (sp?) choice. Also, you may want to go to a roller bridge, which I have not done yet. And yes, it looks really cool. So DO it. Guitar Ed
