  1. hehe. gotta love the simplicity of the nevborn though, 8 strings, one bridge pickup, and ONE knob on the whole thing. HAHA! talk about getting the job done with minimal effort. (BUT, he is running though alot of processors after that, so maybe thats how he's doing it?)
  2. you mean the bevel on the outside of the body? if so, look up 'chamfer bits' they go on routers and you can get alot of angels to give you what your looking far. they do angles like this: __________ / / / | | | | that what you mean?
  3. you might be right...to me it looks like hes not using as large of guage strings as if you 'scaled up' a 6 string. maybe like a .70 or something? maybe he can use a less wide neck since hes saving like an inch on the heel from smaller guage strings?
  4. agreed, i want to know what style your playing and where you plan on getting strings, pickups, ect. heres a 8 string, made by Nevborn in Sweden for Meshuggah: neck is frickin huge, looks bigger than a 6 string bass. insane. tuned to straight G t
  5. http://www.digikey.com http://www.mouser.com http://www.alltronics.com/ tried those companies yet? i know they deal in high quantities and very one off stuff to, they have tons of parts. t
  6. sorry to hijak, but what do you have thats 8 strings? more info plez!

  8. hehe sorry, worked when i posted them. they just put on a black dye first, then sand it down till barely any is left, then a top color is shot over, so you get that effect. didnt explain it right but thats how its done, summed up. ill probably get flamed for my 'explination'
  9. uh.....WOAH. thats all i can say about that pic, thats one huge piece of beautiful wood. cha-CHING anyone?
  10. heres the link to how they are probably getting the black underneath the blue on that prs: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...715&hl=boneyard prs body=
  11. kind of not related, but i know of people with homemade aluminum anodizing tanks and they said you can use RIT dye instead of expensive others. i think it needs to be mixed at alot higher strength though. but nonetheless, i think if it would work at high temp and in metal it should work fine on wood?? id say go with experimenting, its fun and you might get some good results out of it! t
  12. ive got a friend that plays one, they are pretty cool. not very many different sounds you can get out of it i would say. might want to check out a bouzouki though, they sound sweet!!!

    fretless necks?

cool. is there any way to get a good heavy tone out of it? or is just purposely for slides and that sort of style music? thanks! t
  14. true. they are very good for guitars! problems with them on things like sound fx or very quiet things is that they are dynamic mics, and are less suceptable (sp?) to frequencies than a highly sensitive condensor. so they are hard (for the most part) to peak out, so great to mic a cab a few inches away, but sucks when your trying to record something quiet and you get the material a few db higher than the noise. not really much you can work with there. sm58=amazing mic for the money!!!! headphones are nice cause you can listen to stuff and not bother people around you or in your house. but once you hear a nice set of studio monitors in a quiet room youll be like really cant compare the two. 10k is an expensive mic most i know of that are popular in studios are neuman u87's and they are like 4k. maybe one of those renown vintage one off things. but thsoe are for microphilliacs. hehehe. t
  15. anyone every play on a 6 or 7 string electric guitar fretless neck? not a bass. ive heard a few sound clips and it sounds simliar to a 'slide' guitar. opinions? http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jht...13&PRID=1438451
  16. what shure mic did you end up getting? i can be of help on this subject, sorry i didnt chime in until now. im a recording engineer at school personally i think a sm57 sucks on anything but loud vocals and electric guitar amp. if your recording acoustic get a good condensor or a pencil mic setup.
  17. having problems finding anything but a email address for masecraft supply. do you know the direct link? or to others that sell stuff like that, i dont want a cut gem, just flat pieces of colored stone, but not flat in color like pastic, that will give the 'stone' look. ya know? thx for the help! t
  18. sweet, thanks for the help! do you know anyone that sells stone for inlay and gems and stuff for this purpose? im in the US btw, thx again! t
  19. thats pretty cool! never seen that before, but im meaning real 'stone'!! like instead of plastic or shell. acutal STONE! crazy huh? here are some pics: http://www.inlay.com/stone_inlay/unfin2/unfin2.htm
  20. just saw this a few min ago. love the effect. does anyone know some good info or tutorials out there? im finding it hard to find info on this subject. thx for any help! t
  21. its just a regular tuner, but can be used in the place of any pedal board setup, so its nice and compact and looks just like a distortion pedal, and you just turn it on or off like you would any other pedal.
  22. technically, a perfect glue joint is supposed to be as strong or stronger than the wood its holding together.
  23. dont know if this is of any intrest, but if you wanted to do a nice job and knew someone with a gun you could get it nicely put on. the process is called Harlequin, and the dupont and other brands lack from the big name paints in the amount of different colors you see and how dramatic the color change is, ect, heres a pic of some diff colors:
  24. true.... man. that thing looks THICK! look how the heel tapers on the back of the neck. maybe im over exaggerating. sorry.
  25. doesnt bartonlini (sp?) sell alot of custom 7/8/9 string pickups for jazz guitars? might want to check into them.
