  1. Quite fond of my Fuji Finepix. Nice SLR sort of shape and functionality, which is great if you're used to SLRs.
  2. I think you're dead right there. What I never have got my head around is this - I can't 'hear' the notes in my head any faster than I can play them. So. If you're soloing really fast stuff, do you hear those notes and want to play them, and therefore do play them, or is it a more subconcious thing so you play the lick?
  3. And very rewarding when acquired they are too! And by the way - I like the headstock, but now of the far right hand edge were a convex curve...
  4. How's it for sanding? I take it it's a clear?
  5. His wife told him "Sell it or I'm leaving". Now he can say, "Look honey, no-one wants to buy it..."
  6. Quite like Scott's. And mine of course. Someone has a nice one of the Wounded Eye of Horus too.
  7. Hmmmm... Black stain on the quilt... tru-oil on top Would this combination work? Not tried tru-oil before...
  8. Been thinking aboutthis a lot of the past few days. If your headstock is angled, is one-piece going to take the strain ok? Maybe dumb, but I'd appreciate some views!
  9. Very useful stuff - keep em coming! I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the tenon.
  10. I wouldn't have thought all the tru-oiled gunstocks warp a great deal?
  11. your lucky i am in a good mood since drak helped me name it That's why I waited till you had an answer before I posted!
  12. Some interesting stuff here. I've done countless mods, refrets, refinishes (ok ish but I lack patience), and assembled several guitars from combinations of new and old parts, but am just about to start on a complete build. I think part of the answer really depends on how long you expect to wait before you can play your creation. If you want it in a month or two, get a kit or someone to build it for you. If you're prepared to put months in and progress slowly and patiently, I don't think it's impossible that you can build something you're really proud of (at least that's my personal gamble). But I think I can guarantee that if you do build one, kit or full custom job, it won't be your last.
  13. Wicked amp. Mine blew up That used to walk all over a Peavey 300W bass rig if I let it. I usually did Using a fender princeton DSP now. Small, VERY loud (allegedly 65w) tranny combo, 1x12", easy to carry (much lighter than the studio.22), and wins the fight with a monster premier kit and a Trace Elliot 150W bass rig.. In fact, it's perhaps too loud. but nice to have the spare noise there.
  14. Is the 513 actually on sale and available yet?
  15. mmmmm - just bagged me some abalone and rubies!
  16. Hmm loose gemstones is a very intereting category!
  17. hey nice idea! Search Ebay for cubic zirconium...
  18. It looks like it's all done onthe switching, splitting out coils with the 5 way and phase with the 3 way. They tend to make most of their own pickups I think, apart from some with use a Duncun in the middle for the strat-ish swamp ash special.
  19. Long time ago - about 1978 - the band I was in used to play a lot of new wave stuff - Johnny Thunders, Pistols, Ramones.. Marshall and an LP DC-type (Gordon Smith) springs to mind, but I myself used what is now called a fat strat into a Sound City 50W Concorde combo. Wish i still had it...
  20. bet my ass is dumber than yours! Thanks - I'll remember that when and if I get that far! I'm not altogether optomistic as this is by far the biggest piece of woodwork I have ever contemplated! My main rule is take my time and think it through.
  21. yeah - I keep having doubs about deciding on a neck-through as a first build though! Luckily, I have enough neck mahogany to do either. I think perhaps the neck though may be actually easier than getting involved with tenons.. Sorry - don't mean to thread-jack!
  22. Try a few of the motor factors - I've found a huge variety of grits in them!
  23. looks sweet enough to me! Gradually assembling bits to start on my v, am watching this avidly Bill!!
