  1. goal or not,if your goal is too communicate on this forum, you must speak clearly.the truth is,in the case of "internet shorthand",as Drak so eloquently calls it,the typist is passing off the extra time typing to the reader. in other words, when you type all of that lingo,it takes the reader much more time to understand what in the world you are going on about.
  2. to be clear,i am not suggesting a grammar and punctuation seminar...only that proper words are attempted and an effort made.
  3. i am going to repeat something that as far as i know is still a guidline or a loosely enforced rule around here that has not been mentioned since kevan has been doing his thing...it used to be posted, but i think the topic was not pinned at the time. the "hax0r" "no0b" "u" "plx" type of stuff is not well tolerated here.i and many others refuse to respond to a question asked in this type of chatspeak or whatever you want to call it. proper sentence structure is appreciated.nobody cares about punctuation,a few mis-typed words,or the ocassional thing here and there.but entire posts typed in this fashion are annoying, hard to understand, and just plain gauche
  4. i don't think you need any of the booster stuff ...i like it plain old hot as hell i think you may not realize how hot that set of pickups is with just a volume knob....i mean it is as hot as you will ever need.. i don't think the neck pickup you are talking about is a good match with an 81 in a metal guitar....and you did say metal
  5. the problem is,that is just a basic reply to a much deeper issue...EVERYBODY takes some drug to make them feel better.the question is,do you need uppers or downers to make your life easier to tolerate? i drink buttloads of coffee personally.and don't tell me caffiene is not just as unhealthy as pot in large doses...it's just accepted, that's all some guys smpkeciggarettes...nicotine is also an upper...like caffiene. i remember that you are a physical fitness consultant of some type for the military...big supporter of atkins...long term atkins has severe health consequences...look it up.do you ever reccomend hydroxycut or ripped fuel?both are drugs...both are uppers.they do nothing good for you except pick you up,and as soon as you stop taking them you crash, and crash hard.i know because i take them time to time myself.going on hydroxycut for more than a week and then going off of it throws me into weeks of depression... i do not partake of the herb...but ALOT of my friends do...and guess what?they are all happier than me... why?i think because they found a simple little way to make the weight of the world just a little less.and what is wrong with that. i don't buiy the long term health problems supposedly associated with pot.i know too many old bikers and hippies that are suffering no health problems from pot...the amount of smoke inhaled by a pot smoker is a hell of a lot less than the amount inhaled by the typical cigarrette smokerbut it aint my thing. i kind of wish it was my thing.i could use a little less stress in my life.and no civil discussion is really futile...discusasing differences bring people closer to undestanding each other
  6. "trip" is a slang term for hallucinate
  7. actually, what it means is that the amp and the recording equipment play a more important role in percieved tone than the guitar used. but i have not listened to the recordings...i found out a long time ago that after all of the recording and processing, the guitar used is only a small difference...but in person it is more noticeable. you see,i have many guitars, all with the same pickups and strings, and all sound different...some are very noticeable.
  8. in austin,we have many very narrow roads with alot of turns and hills and alot of traffic....it creates a cluster behind a cyclist and most times you never see them until you are right on top of them. cyclists are involved in many wrecks around here...and the cyclist usually loses. they just had a big discussion about this on a talk show on local am radio the other day...they asked callers to call in and report their experiences as cyclists on the road...every one of them said that if you were to travel on the roads around here on a bycicle on a daily basis, you would not live long...the roads are just not capable of supporting bike traffic and cars at the same time safely, yet the mayor of austin is trying to encourage people to ride bicycles to work what you may not understand over in the netherlands is that here in texas,it is not unusual in the least to have a work commute of 20 miles or more...in fact i would venture to say 80% at least are commuting that far here in austin every day...those people cannot ride a bike to work...thety must drive a car,and traffic is much more infuriating than you may think it is here...so even if YOU are able to ride a bike to work, all of the people around you are not,and they are all in a hurry...it just does not work...and to top it off cyclists around here do not stop at the red lights...so you don't just have to get around them once, you have to do it several times, because as soon as you stop at a light they blow right through it,even though it's illegal... bike trails would be nice...we do have them, but they are recreational, they don't go everywhere.and recreational cyclists are not the problem, because they drive to 360 or some other nice wide road with wide shoulders, and everyone knows they are going to be there.the problem is when they commute on a bike, they get on the inner city roads and create a horrible hazard. that explain it well enough?
  9. supposedly...but from what i understand it really is not effective at that
  10. cherry is very hard...like soft maple i used it on a neck once
  11. has the top been pulled off? no,i think that is a copy...but there are so many it is impossible to tell from that photo
  12. "this trip is cool?" dude..i think theze guys are talking about pot,and pot is no hallucinogen. problem with the legalization of pot is that the ones making the laws are out of touch.smoking pot is absolutely less dangerous to surrounding people than being drunk, and your kids are in more danger from a redneck in his truck haulin ass down the road tweaking on a mouth full of copenhagen. unfortunately,a stoned guy drives no worse than an illegal immigrant...and is much less dangerous than a bicycle on the road, which i see all too much of(both)driving around austin every day... but that is not to say it's okay...illegal immigrabts are not supposed to be on the road, but the police are forced to look the other way...old people drive horribly, but they are allowed to keep on,bicycles are horribly dangerous on the road, yet they have a "right" to be there, but you somehow think a stoned guy is worse off? ban em all i say...no cellphones, bicycles, hamburgers, immigrants, old people, drunks,or stoned people at all on the roads...but in your own house you can have 10 beers, smoke 10 joints,be with 10 prostitutes, and talk on the phone all you want and all at the same time...it hurts NO-BOD-Y...
  13. that's what is said every time a freedom gets taken away."it's to protect ----"(insert noun here)
  14. we are like God that way...now where did that pillar of salt go?my pasta is bland
  15. you don't need that zero point thing...not with a cam system.because there is no friction to counter
  16. and yes, lamb of god is awesome...but their tone is not exactly the best... fear factory has a much better metal tone....or deicide,nile,etc...
  17. oh..in case you have not seen my exploder(i like showing it off) http://westhemann.com/exploder/IM000123.JPG bubinga body, maple set neck with maple fretboard
  18. well...bubingais most definately an EXCELLENT wood for a metal guitar...but it is very heavy in weight,so you have to compensate...i made my explorer very small and thin, but it still weighs in around 8 pounds. if you use bubinga,do not make your guitar thicker than 1 3/8",which will mean you need to use the kahler trem for sure.
  19. you can get a 26.188 scale fretboard from lmii.com...personally i prefer 25.5
  20. ihardly ever break strings...sounds like you need to smooth out your saddles or get better with the trem. once you get good with a trem, you tend to break less because you are more musical with it and less "flappy"
  21. agreed..but the explorer is more difficult than a vee...you still have that cutaway to flow into the neck heel,
  22. it matters to the player.the average audience member knows nothing...but players by nature are way more perceptive.
  23. i use alot of different woods...but i really like a good piece of dense mahogany with a mahogany neck...neck through or set neck, kahler trem with locking floyd nut, schaller mini tuners, emg 81/85 with a 3 way toggle and only one volume pot...(no tone) but really,no one thing makes a guitar metal...it just needs to be wired hot...my exploder is bubinga and maple, but it's hotter and screams more than my all mahogany beast oh...and in my opinion drop tuning is a crutch...if you are metal, you will be metal in any tuning.i usually stick around E flat
