  1. Well the table is now in pieces and the only thing that was completely made out of one single wood was the top, which probably is birch. Everything else was pine veneered with figured birch or some other wood I can't identify, sorta looked like cherry. I've seen lots of guitars made out of birch and hell Metal matt made a V out of oak. I will try and make a guitar out of the tabletop.
  2. The reason I wanted to make a guitar out of this is if I bought wood I would have to ask the people at the store to cut It up for me, plane it and stuff because I have practically no tools for big stuff. If I took the larger pieces of this and glued together sandwich style, I'd surely have enough thickness for a body and probably wouldnt need to plane anything assuming it hasn't warped already. EDIT: Heres a pretty bad picture of unfinished wood from the top of the table. http://photobucket.com/albums/y212/Slabbef...rrent=grain.jpg You can see the grain lines if you look close and when I look at it here beside me it looks alot like birch.
  3. Yes that is solid wood, I'm 100% on that. What Demian wanted to say with his quote is unsolved at the moment.
  4. Well, its going to be butchered anyway so I'll try and get another pic when I'm done with that and have sanded a piece of it.
  5. Okay so my brother has moved out and in his new apartment was this old table made out of pretty nice wood. As he didnt want it and we really dont have a use for it at home I thought I could butcher it and make a guitar of out it. I need help identifying the wood, or at least coming close or getting some kind of notion of what it might be. It was too heavy to be made out of thin veneered stuff and theres a crack in one of the sides that shows no signs of it being anything but real wood. I was thinking about maybe Oak, it being pretty heavy and all. But I'm a complete dunce when it comes to this. It has been finished with something and that doesn't really make it easier for you guys. Here are some pictures that I took of it: On top: http://photobucket.com/albums/y212/Slabbef...nt=P8210037.jpg One of the sides: http://photobucket.com/albums/y212/Slabbef...nt=P8210038.jpg The whole thing: http://photobucket.com/albums/y212/Slabbef...nt=P8210039.jpg If you think the pictures are too bad I'll try and get some better ones tomorrow. Thank you in advance, David.
  6. For pickups Tone Zone in bridge, Air Norton in the neck.
  7. Thats a lovely guitar Myka! I'm an admirer of your work and really like the way you build your guitars. I'm especially intrigued by that neck-joint, does it play as smooth as it looks?
  8. OOooooooohhh sweet!! That 7-string Ironbird is going to kick so much arse! Love it!
  9. Man thats a nice Beast, are you using the Beast Headstock for it too? I'd like to see a pic of the head.
  10. Thats some nice paintjob there Maiden!
  11. Is that a reverse headstock im seeing? If so, AWESOME!!
  12. I think most people on this board wouldn't be particularly offended by "that's a helluva nice axe..." But that's just my opinion. ← Yeah I guess And the fact that he uses handplanes gives me a little hope that I can start building some guitars soon.
  13. Its good to see a swedish builder around! Since the use of bad language is not appreciated here: Det var en jävligt snyggt gura JFC! Är det svårt att få allt rakt och fin med en handhyvel?
  14. I want to see how this turns out as well as that JS-7!!!
  15. This sounds very interesting. How bout building an acoustic/archtop in carbon/fibreglass? It feels like its something I could try.
