  1. People PLEASE!! Try to remember the rule about pics in posts: - 1 pic per post. - Maximum size 640x480 Thank you.
  2. Is this my buddy Cliff Suttle? All the pieces seem to match up (no inlay pun intended).
  3. Thanks guys! Frank- coming from you, that means a lot. I know you've seen all the kooky stuff, the crap stuff, and the good stuff. It's nice to know that this rates high on your list. Maybe up there with the Frank Falbo Cavity Cover? (inside joke folks. Sorry) I'm trying to think of the best reward so far...It might be the words "very cool product" coming from Jol Dantzig, or John Suhr saying "I'd like to check one out". Wait...I know what it is: It's an IM I got from one of my testers, Norm Hammer. Last week he told me that his Tremol-No was still working perfectly, after 1.5 years of hardcore bar gigs and festival shows in the same guitar. He's done almost no maintenance on the Tremol-No in that time, and it's saved him a couple of times (string break while he's locked down). So far, that's the reward I've enjoyed the most.
  4. Hey folks! I have some great news for everyone: THE TREMOL-NO HAS BEEN LICENSED!!! More info can be found here: http://www.tremol-no.com/license.htm Like the site says, don't hammer AllParts for units yet. Give them a few weeks to get them built and shipped to their door. Building 100 is pretty quick; building 10,000 takes a *little* more time. Let's hope for deliveries to start happening somewhere around Summer NAMM (a total guess, but...should be close to then). Price: MSRP will be somewhere between $50 and $60, which includes the Deep-C. The Tremol-No Classic will be the first model built. If all goes well, we will follow up with the Tremol-No Standard for all the Ibanez guys. I would like to thank a few people, if you guys don't mind.... First off, Rachel. For sticking with me, not minding that I stay up for days at a time, down in the shop, running the milling machine all damn night while she's sleeping. I wish everyone could have a girl like her in their life. She really is fantastic. I'm one lucky SOB. I have to thank my parents. They were super-supportive of this whole project (once I explained exactly what a tremolo system did. LOL). They're just plain awesome. My patent attorney, Sean Casey. That guy doesn't own a guitar, but man....he rocks harder than Peter North in a Victoria's Secret store. Next off, all the guitar people- The entire AllParts company, Lisa Sharken, Steve Blucher, Jim Donahue, all the folks at Ibanez and the LACS, the guys at Fernades Co. Japan, the uber-techs at Ernie Ball/Music Man, Jol Dantzig, my buddies at Peavey, John Suhr, Nik Huber and 'Vegas Greg', every single one of the players on the Players page, and those who aren't up there (you know who you are), Larry Davis and his crew, Vince Cunetto, and last (but not least), Joe Satriani for calling my house right before I was about to put the first fork full of dinner to my mouth. And my online buddies- -Project Guitar forum members -The Gear Page forum members (and admin!!!) -The Vai.com forum (and admin!!!) -The Memphis Monster and the Shawn Lane forums (all versions) -The *real* Allan Holdsworth forum -The Nik Huber board (and admin!!!) -Sevenstring.org forum members (and admin!!!) Some are goofballs, some are psychos, all of them better players than me, but I'm proud to be able to call them the folks I hang out with online. If I left anyone out, please forgive me. It's been a 2.5 year process, and some of the names probably just escape me right now. And thanks to everyone that's ever emailed me about the Tremol-No. You guys have sent me the coolest emails, and some of the most bizarre requests. All of them have been awesome. Thanks again to everyone. I'll update the site as soon as AllParts has units ready to ship out. Rock on!
  5. PG.com Rules on pics in posts: - 1 pic per post, except in the Tutorial section and GOTM entries. - Multiple posts are allowed, but try to be human about it. Stupidity will get your pics a free seat on either the Link Train or the Delete Express. - In-post pics, anywhere on the forum, should be 640x480 or smaller. All other sizes should be linked to. If you have other pic-posting questions, feel free to ask.
  6. Marz- You're on the right track. 1 spring is....okay. It's not the best way to do it, but it *can* work. 2 springs is a better way to get it done. As Maiden pointed out, check the height/depth of the 6 screws that mount the tremolo to the body on the face of the guitar. If those are screwed down too tight, or hindering your trem plate from moving, back them off a bit (equal amounts on each) until you're happy with the range of movement the trem now has. Then go to the back and adjust your trem claw until you like where the trem is sitting and the guitar is tuned. TIP: There are different tremolo spring lengths. Try to match up equal lengths when installing or replacing trem springs in a guitar. To find matching lengths, slide the loop end of the springs on a small screwdriver shaft. It's a quick way to show you which are 'long', 'medium' and 'short'.
  7. I understand you're new, but please try to post in the correct section (I had to move this here from Inlay/Finishing.) Also, the Search button is on every page. Please over-use it...lots....before posting a new topic. Thanks. THREAD CLOSED
  8. Well, first off, we don't talk like Prince here. Secondly, there's no such thing as a "standard Strat trem". In my research, I've found at least half a dozen different string spacings, MANY different pivot screw hole spacings, and a plethora of different material and dimensional differences. Saying 'standard Strat trem' is like going to the Playboy mansion and saying, "Check out that hot chick over there." Third, depending on which Squire model you have, you *MIGHT* be able to route out the body to accept a FR trem. Body thickness is one of the main issues to be tackled. There's a Tremolo Route Comparison chart on this Forum, and FR has dimensional drawings and tons of tech info on their site. If you're asking if the FR trem is a "drop-in" replacement, then the answer is no. Put some lube on the trem posts and along the edge (where the trem comes in contact with the post). You don't drive your car without oil in the engine, right? You shouldn't drive your trem without proper lubrication either. That should help with your squeakiness. PTFE (or something teflon-based) is recommended, but *something* that lubricates is better than nothing at all. If the squeak is coming from the springs in back, first try replacing springs. Springs come in a variety of sizes/lengths/tensions, so try to match what's going in with what's coming out. If that doesn't help, try some cotton/cotton balls inside the springs. Do one at a time to isolate which spring is squeaking. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  9. Why is it that I seem to immediately close every auction window where the seller uses ALL CAPS TO SIMPLY DESCRIBE THE ITEM? Damn. Take your Ritalin before typing up auctions...or get your f-ing keyboard fixed. Hell, I have a spare in the closet. ($40 to ship it though...heh heh) From the RRV auction: -What, exactly, is a "recording CESSION"? - "GOOD LUCK FOT THE AUCTION!!!" Ummm.....***? I hope with the money he makes he buys a spell-checker....and a keyboard without the caps lock stuck. Hey- I can hope!
  10. They did? Kooky. Cool, but kooky. Now wherethehell is my check? Anytime you need a hand, let me know (email and IM are best). I'm also working on a new, clearer, all-color wiring diagram for the 1st Generation DE systems.
  11. The link you posted goes to an SA series guitar with the Double SAT trem. While it is piezo-equipped, it is NOT double-locking. Ibanez (with the help of LR Baggs) makes the only double-locking trem system. It is NOT available as a part from Ibanez (or LR Baggs). Your best bet is to pick up a pre-owned Double Edge-equipped guitar and use the trem/preamp/wiring off of it. REMOVING/INSTALLING THE DOUBLE EDGE SYSTEM IS NOT FOR FIRST-TIMERS. It's a very complicated system with a lot of very delicate wires. One little slip, and you could own a very nice paperweight. If you have questions about removing/installing or the operation of the DE systems, feel free to email me. Rumors are like Pam Anderson videos. We've all seen them, but no one will admit where they got it from. Plus, piezo saddles are one thing. Tackling all the necessary wiring, so it'll work on all Floyds, is a whole other ball of wax. A ball that's about 11' in diameter. Not with Double Edge systems. They are warranty replacement only.
  12. You're right. I probably will catch it here. :-) The Tremol-No is still on track. We *hope* (knock on a nice chunk of mahogany) to start production sometime this month. Available in stores and online soon after. The thread that VanKirk posted is where you will find ALL the latest updates. Also, keep checking the Tremol-No.com site. Soon enough, there will be a "Click Here To Buy" link right on the front page. It's coming. VERY soon.
  13. Whenever I see that bike, I break into song.... "Team America....F**K YEAH!"
  14. Isn't that a Beethoven cut? Suggestions: "Der Kommisar"- After The Fire (the 'extended' version has some fun 12 in it) "She Sells Sanctuary"- The Cult (either the 4 strums during the choruses, or...the whole song. LOL)
  15. Joey- I'm kinda stuck on the timeline issue as well.... In an interview here you say: "Well my best friend ask[ed] me to start playing, so I did. 3 years after that my guitars were stolen so I quit. I then started back up in 1999." Then here on March 29, 2004 you say: "this september will be 8 years playing; 4 years recording and writing." I feel like I'm in Spinal Tap trying to figure out military time.
  16. How about a nice, clear, COLOR diagram? :-) http://www.tremol-no.com/images/DiM_8poleRev2.jpg
  17. Good call, Scott! http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1999&w=RG7620 I'll repair my drawing now...heh heh.
  18. Here's what half an hour in Photoshop gets ya: http://www.tremol-no.com/images/DiM_8poleRev2.jpg (NOTE: That diagram is strictly from paper.)
  19. The standard wiring rig for Ibanez guitar goes like this: - DiMarzio pickups = OTAX switch (aka VLX-91 switch). - IBZ pickups = 8-pole switch. That makes it tough for folks to drop DiMarzios in with 8-pole switches, without breaking out the DMM or looking up diagrams all over the 'net. Lovekraft does that stuff in his sleep, but some of us like 'seeing' what we're doing. LOL Give me 24 hours. I have a diagram of "DiMarzio + 8-pole", but I need to put it on the computer and upload it. I might even send it to Ibanez. :-)
  20. Ibanez JPM Wiring Diagram: http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1998&w=JPM100 Note the switch.
  21. I have a question for Matt: What's a "spring tree"?
  22. See alternate thread here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=16161
  23. I just showed this thread to a buddy of mine who's ex-Berklee. Here's his quote: "Vibrato is pitch. Tremolo is volume. It's universally accepted that a tremolo system on a guitar is incrorrectly named- and whothef*** cares to dicsuss it on the 'net with strangers?" LMAO. BTW- Columbus didn't name America. A German clergyman-scholar named Martin Waldseemüller did: http://geography.about.com/cs/historicalgeog/a/amerigo.htm
  24. *cough*Parker Fly Trem*cough* Not a terrible page, and definitely a good start. But "tremolo" and "vibrato" are WAY OLDER than the site depicts. Also, both terms are correct, in their own way.... Vibrato: n.- A tremulous or pulsating effect produced in an instrumental or vocal tone by minute and rapid variations in pitch. Tremolo: n.- A tremulous effect produced by rapid repetition of a single tone. ...bringing us to.... Tremulous: adj.- Marked by trembling, quivering, or shaking. Both work when it comes to music (esp. guitar playing), but "vibrato" gets you results quicker. We can all thank Mr. Leo Fender for incorrecting us.
  25. You should post here as well: http://vai.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=32 I'm sure Mikey and the rest of the Vai camp would like to hear your story and review.
