  1. Krylon #1301 Crystal Clear. Just give it 3 days before you screw with it after the last coat.
  2. That is the EXACT problem I have with spray shellac! You call it "hazing", huh? My shop is almost always too cool (I hope) so I should turn off the air and shoot it hot. Shellac rules for a lot of finishing!
  3. I am surprised noone jumped in on this so here is my trussrod take. I perfer the single-acting double-rod because it is smaller, puts pressure on the neck fairly evenly and doesn't need to be fastened in. Rattle issues are there but a little sillycone takes care of most of it. As far as the rest goes, can't help because I don't even know what a JEM is.
  4. OK, what tricks have you applied to the B & S powerplant? If it matches the paint, someone is going to call a technical!
  5. Aluminum is really nice to work with in gauge thickness. You can cut the lighter stuff with a band saw (feed it slow) or a coping saw (my chioce) or plasma. Routing is frustrating but can be done. After you get it shaped, the finishing possibilities are endless! You can sand it to a satin, polish it to chrome or acid-etch it pitch black. Beware the alloys. The softer 300 series are REAL soft. The 4043/5356 alloys are harder and finish better. 6061 in a high T temper is my favorite because it tools just like steel. It is also cheap. Wax it when you get the look you want because the surface will oxidize in a few weeks.
  6. He wants to be the Pope and lost his chance. Twice. He would probly settle for GOD.
  7. GregP, thanks a BUNCH! Sheet music, no less! I had a time printing it so I will now advise everyone to update their version of Adobe. Nice scan, BTW!
  8. psw, you got it right. PG is not about attacking, it be about real, honest input. Now, show me dat bass! I'll give you some input.
  9. It sounded silly at first but the more I thought about it the more I got concerned. If your strings make a clear shot through the holes in the bridge without touching the plate and your saddles are non-conductive, I don't know WHERE the strings will get ground. I guess you either need to file slots in the top of the body, beneath the bridge, to make sure they hit the metal OR push a ground wire in with each of the string ferrules. Good scenerio for thought!
  10. Now just look at all the progress that has been made on this project! That is what FORUMS are all about! Good work everyone in helping this person and remember to "play nice".
  11. If it doesn't smell REAL bad of burnt plastic, it may not be a total die-bird. Routers are awful simple and they run real hot to make all dat horsepower. Number one culprit is a burnt connection at one of the brush holders. I got both of my big routers given to me cause day was boke. NOT. Just a few connection issues and they been going for years. Unless it smells BAD.
  12. Read some more, Curt. They are hybrid. Nice marketing trick, though. Worked on you.
  13. As long as noone is getting any flack over their input, I shall add mine. You have one or two leaking output transistors. They can, in fact, still test good with a common transistor tester. I have a gain/current tester that catches these little turds when they get cranky but it is usually more efficient to just replace both (for like $14.00) and move on. Duck season! Wabbit season! Wabbit season! Duck season! FIRE! (Quote from Loony Toons)
  14. To quote Popeye the Sailor "Thats all I can stands and I can't stands no more". That body looks like the depressed little blurb on the Paxil CR commercials on de tele! Depressed! Start over! You can't fix a wart to not look like a wart! Sorry. IMHO
  15. Those frets don't look too thin to me and the necks are OK. I really like the Warmoth PRO with the Gotoh side-adjuster. Medium-jumbo frets and a neck I can trust. I am surprised at the price difference but if you consider the labor you are going to invest in your project, it don't come up to much per hour .
  16. Be VERY careful! That Marshall HAS to have a load impedence of 8 ohms or greater! Lower impedence will kill the thing in short order, no pun intended. As with most solid-state output amps, you will be forced to go with a higher total speaker impedence if you want to run external cabs with the internal speakers. If you have 8 ohm cabs, you will have to make a series adapter to put the internal speaker in SERIES with the external cab for a total impedence of 16 ohms. Because this is a stereo output amp, you will have to do this twice, once for left, once for right. A parallel "splitter" cord will give you too low an impedence and hurt your amp.
  17. THANK YOU everyone for your input to a "percussion-challenged" person! The final result is that I have ordered a 6-piece set of Shure drum mics and a 8-channel mixer/processor from the double z. After all your input, I believe he needs to stay with his (very good) conventional set and have a little more control over the micing. I do not wanna be there when he meets his first sound man but, I won't, so no prob.
  18. Do a search on this site. It has been covered at least twice.
  19. Fun!! You could argue that it saves wear and tear on your elbow but....no, lets not go there. I don't really like playing one but they are kinda cool. Strings are usually at a lower tension and the "grippers" like that.
  20. I don't know. A PA's PA probly doesn't even get to exhale! BUT!! I have found that PinTech is not what I think he needs. In addition, I have found a Roland TD-6 that says it has mesh heads but is missing three cables for a flat G-note plus shipping. I also found something I have never heard of which is a ddrums ES with no snare. WAY cheap but I have never heard of ddrums. Any input? And, no, I am NOT hitting the "d" key too much. That is how it is entered in the classifieds.
  21. That would be my son's gig (PA) on a shoot but to hear him tell it there is NO fun involved. He spent 4 hours getting two Persian rugs and a mountain bike "donated" for the last shoot. Sounds like ego-placation to me! The longer shoots give the PAs a couple of PA PAs. Now, that could get good!
  22. Greg, I would LOVE correct TAB for that! I know it is a very simple piece but the knowledge that I am playing it at least half-right would make me very happy. I guess someone should start a topic concerning the quality of TAB sources. TAB didn't really exist when I started playing and I kind of shied away from it because it took away the requirement to LEARN music and a lot of it was shoddy. THEN I down-loaded what must have been a pretty good TAB intro to (Lord forgive me) Stairway to Heaven and absolutely laughed my butt off while I was playing it right, for the first time! I had a riot! TAB RULES!!
