  1. this file is way tooooo big its probably too big because its a thousand feet long and any print shop can do it. just convert the cad file to a PDF file and get them to print it to blank poster size paper ← no mailman, its 1000mm long in ur cad program change unit of measurment to mm (metric) not inches (imperial)
  2. hey man i know wat u mean, even though u can see that it is going to be a great finished product u cant motivate urself to do the work. what i find is if i loose interest due to the weather being too hot or cold, school (no more of that 1 yay), or what ever it is, if you let it rest for a while ie week or maybe 2 i find i start to think about it more, not consciously, but sort of in the back of my mind, and i gradually get back into it. (right now im destracted from my tele cos when i go into my workshop for 5 miniutes im drenched in sweat, and i cant spray my jem cos its too humid)
  3. cars going side ways?? u musta bin watching some video sideways cos as far as i can tell they go farward backward and around corners just fine , howeveri beg to differ on some of that, there are only 3" scale lengths in western australia, where perry is and down is definiately not up, lol luke
  4. good analogy a, kid throwing a tantrum. The world is changing and people wanna be paid for every thing they do, look back to the slip'n fall cases of the mid 90's, and the ubundance of "personal injury lawyers" 10 years prior to that if u sliped in the shopping center u pick urself up with the little dignity that you have left and carry on with your bussiness. i can understand the music folks gettin a little cranky with kazaa/napster, but surely not shutting down educational sites (u r learning the song remember, which makes it education, yes?). to quote animal farm, "all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" 2 c luke
  5. ha there are alot of ambidexterous (sp?) people out there, i got a friend who i play cricket with, he bowls left handed, bats right handed, plays guitar right handed and writes left handed.
  6. it looks like some1 painted an the body gold screwed up,painted it red, screwed that up, then painted it brown (only god knows why), then that screwed up (maybe the guy wouldnt take the hint)so he painted it black, stuffed that up too so finally he painted it turquoise, but then decided to start over, and got halfway through sanding it and sold it on ebay.... well attempted to. luke
  7. i've done as eric suggested put two notches in a standard TOM, the 12 string TOM's brian sell have 12 saddles and look very busy and crowded, do what eric suggested put a notch either side of the original notch, the centre notch doesnt end up that noticeable when its strung up. thats my 2 c luke
  8. is this ur first build?? if so id suggest steering clear of ur own creation unless u have drawn full scale plans and know EXACTLY what you want in regards to hardware etc, and not change from that, might also wanna think bout sticking with that soloist or tele, might be easier to build with better results. but if u have built before, my only question would be how u plan to accurately cut the slanted fret slots? and what kind of scale length is that? with 31 or so frets, better think it through in a bit more detail
  9. i knew that , the classification of woods has very little to do with their hardness but rather their growth patterns, and growth time, ie. softwoods are entirely useable, whereas hardwoods have sapwood and heartwood, which is not entirely useable. a friend of mine is building a 30 foot catamaran (sp??) outta balsa, he glued three layers of the stuff together for the hulls, apparently is used quite alot in the wooden cat industry.
  10. if u can get a good joint u wont even see it, if u can see it a bit u could cut a small groove along the joint, and fill with putty/stainable wood filler, and then stain it. just a thought luke :D
  11. amen to that, using a spokeshave and rasp on a neck through when it has wings on is very difficult, not impossible, but difficult, but u gotta learn somehow i guess. but id leave a little bit of shaping around the neck-body joint until the wings are on so u can flow them into one-another. luke
  12. hehe im a fan of the totally pristine giutar to start with but over the course of its life it gains character, and a little wear, and i can tell a story about every single ding in my acoustic, (only 5 and ive had it for 8 years). As for love taps.... nah let the aging process flow naturally. oh yeah, back on topic, got urself a good deal there luke ps. Mickguard what the hell did u do with idch?
  13. hey, just a thought, if stewmac has the one you seek with the right width and radius, but doesnt have counter sunk holes. what i would do with this is go and counter sink these holes, it shouldnt alter the integrity of the nut, but go slowly, and stop after say 10 seconds leave it to cool and then go again, doing this should stop the plating from premature oxidzation due to the heat generated.
  14. dave the D-Tuna should come with its own screws, well mine did, but i dont have a floyd that it will fit
  15. i have done this before, ok, what u need to do is get a strip of wood the same thickness as the gap, then glue it as close to the outside edge of your body blank, yep, done all that?, then go and buy a six pack of beer, and take your body blank and the beer to the nearest cabinetmaker and ask if they could thickness plane/sand this for you. there you have it... thicknessing wood to hide screw ups the lazy mans way.
  16. thanks for the replies everybody, i think im gonna go the lo pro here, i know i cant get it in gold, but i have a friend who does plating on bull bars and what not so i will see what he can do for me. As far as the cavities being different it doesnt really bother me i have a router and judging by the rout id say i dont think i'll need to change it. thanks again luke
  17. im about to overhaul an rg570, and the floyd is stuffed, im gonna repaint the body white and go with a gold floyd, but, should i go for the low profile floyd or the original, as far as i can tell the smaller string spacing shoulnt be an issue. what do you fellas think? thanks in advance luke
  18. ive had this problem, except it was nearly a semi-tone out, I think what it is the part of the that has corroded looses some thickness, due to oxidization, and the streches a little more. while the bit that isnt as corroded looses less diameter and doesnt stretch as much. that would create un even tension, and therefore making u sound crap am i right or am i correct thats my two years of physics and chem, see it didnt go to waste, i may be right on, i may be well wrong, but now i have a little ribbon that says compeditor! lol luke
  19. wow..... there are some really..... wierd guitars out there..... and people for that matter... but i do like the sniper bass luke
  20. the claw hammer works a treat, but if there is finish attached to you posts then u gotta score around it with a razor blade, oh and make sure u put a piece of wood under th hammer so it doesnt dammage the wood/finish luke
  21. what you are over looking, is that the board has a uniform radius all the way from low E to high E, and the nut is also formed to that radius, the bridge as well has the saddles height adjusted to be the same as that radius. so the strings follow a curve all the way across the board as for compound radius boards i have no idea how one would make one from scratch, but if u want even action across all ur strings u will have to find a bridge with a radius the same as the higher end of ur fret board, and a nut with the same radius as the lower end of the fret board.
  22. well my first thought, were u getting a reasonable string spacing, just negative?, if so u havent followed basic algebra, if u take somthign across the = sign then u a swap the sign, eg: -a on one side would go to +a on the other, thats todays maths lesson kiddies, tomorrows lesson will be on finding the equations for an elipse in parametric form (seriously i bet noone can tell me this) luke edit: i can do maths but i sure as hell cant spell.
  23. well if its only ur tailpiece then its not gonna cause any major problems, it will just look really goofy (depending on how far out it is), but yes, nothing to worry about playability wise. luke
