  1. thing is you could prolly build a squier/(cheap)epiphone type guitar pretty cheap (like a 100$)... but it would suck as much as these do... yknow plywood stuff with cheap pickups...
  2. another question, in the same subject. do one need a planer to do that? or just something like a belt sander or sanding blocks would work??
  3. god, i just calculated what it will cost me... using a neck-through from Carvin... man you're right, these cost damn much... around 800$ canadian for everything... thoug its premium stuff... piezo TOM, great pickups, locking tuners... a guitar worth like 2000$ don't have these things.... still, it's 800$ IF i don't screw up anything... man this really costs too much lol... but still, the guitar i was planning to buy was like 1250$ (parker nitefly) and had these features (actually a little less) so i'm "saving" money
  4. well, NEVER put too much pressure on the kid. i've been through that... did Piano AND Violin courses+exams the same year... since then i havent played either of these. Though now i'm on guitar, but it's for FUN, nothing else. you should let him experiment different instruments (bass, guitar, keys, drums.....) and choose.
  5. actually swineshead are 39 GB pounds... exchange rates for these are about 2.2 CDN so 90$ CDN each, while seymours are 104$ each for normal models at my local shop... ( i said little LESS )
  6. I think i'll go with Swineshead... they are a LITTLE less than SDs, but they seem to be lots better. Contacted them, it seems you can get them customised for *NO* extra charges!! I asked for a smoother Condor and the guy said like no problem.
  7. i would LOVE to get bartolinis (from the harmony-central reviews i read) but 200$ US + 20$ shipping is a very steep price...
  8. hmmmm, Swineshead pickups look nice! the little demos sound good something like neck- condor and bridge- warthog/AMP would probably work
  9. heh... well, i think it's good, as usual, BUT i don't "feel" it... hard to explain... like... i dunno it kinda looks weird. anyways, keep on keepin' on
  10. well, Bartolinis look very nice, but they cost even more than SDs thoug i'm really starting to think about getting something along those lines... The kind of thing no one knows about but that's so great
  11. what about a little bit of glue? like... just enough so it stays there but that if you need to get it off you can? should do the job no?
  12. Hey. Here's a stupid question... my friend told me that you need special knobs for push-pull Pots... Some knobs with a screw on the side He says that way the knobs won't come out... Is this true?? can i use some speed knobs? thanks
  13. some kent pickups look nice, but they don't seem to have any super-clean jazz neck pickups... Do they have any? what about the "duncan designed"... What are they???
  14. Hey there! what alternatives would there be, in a 2 humbuckers setup, to Seymour Duncans? i want to build something very versatile (from jazz to metal). I checked seymours and a jazz/custom setup looks very nice, but costy. so what kind of alternatives are there to seymours? i REALLY don't want anything cheap sounding thoug. If i need to, i'll pay for the SD pickups. thanks! oh also, i want pickups that'll sound good with outer coil and parallel modes
  15. VERY NICE !!! that's kinda what i'll build soon... did you sand the top of the neckthrough to put the cap? also: could we get a shot from the back? anyways, *very* nice for a 1st build
  16. Put a single-coil or a humbucker in the neck and i'm sold. really, this could open up lots of cool sounds... but as Godin said, you still need a neck PU if you ask me. great find
  17. guess it wouldn't change much except height... no FRETbuzz nice work btw... pretty cool
  18. i just taught about it... if i use only maple, won't that make the guitar too bright? if so i'll just get mahogany. and also... where could i get dark wood laminates? (ebony and such) thanks
  19. heh... for those, do i need a spring cavity (or are they hardtail?) right now i'm looking at a schaller TOM... 80$ at universaljem
  20. www.usacustomguitars.com www.carvin.com www.stewmac.com www.warmoth.com good enough?
  21. heh no problem... btw guys, i've found my wood... Neckthrough wings i'll get 3A eastern flamed maple wings... 2" thick the finish will be either trans red or trans black, both with a black burst finish example:
  22. i don't really think the upper horn will get more in the way than your standard single cut... still, i'll see that once i do my 1:1 templates
  23. i'm having the same problem here... except its for a guitar with a TOM. i really think i'll have to recess it simply because i'm getting a Carvin neck, wich is 1.7" thick... if i'd angle it it would be like... 1.3" thick... so any other solutions than recessing?
  24. i think you should work on reading the whole topic i've almost completely changed the design... (kinda) thing is Matt actually said it started looking good a page ago lol =D
  25. ok so i'm thinking maple caps on the sides now... how would trans black/red look? or maybe maple burl? something like that anyways... need your advices: how should i finish that guitar?... remember it's a neckthrough!
