  1. Looking very good. I think you could build two necks out of that blank! Saludos hermano. Jose.
  2. Those inlays got me confused, is there any particular reason why they are out of the traditional positions?
  3. "Maple leaf inlays:" You know people are still going to ask what kind of leaf is that right? That's a beautiful color by the way, looking foward to see how this turns out. Jose.
  4. "And remember...The one who dies with the most clamps wins" LOL. +1
  5. Ummm... no. Shielding and Covers are 2 different things though some can serve both functions. This is a longer discussion than I am willing to put the effort into...sorry. General consensus would be for a PAF the metal covers kill the highs from a pickup (the reason Eric Clapton removed his covers in the first place). Depending on the quality of your PAF cover the effects are slightly different.. I use high quality nickel silver covers and get good results with minimal effects to the overall sound. There are other variations as Rickenbacker Toasters, Gretsch Filtertrons, anything Bill Lawrence designed for Gibson in the 70s all have different styles of shielding and covers. Cool. Thanks.
  6. I am excited... it comes out of the clamps tonight. If I get time tonight I will carve the heal. I could have strings on this thing by Friday. I sold all my S9s except for Redwitch and the first 7 string. It will be so awesome to have another one around... I did wind a set of off white Diablos for it in case I don't like the black out. I also ordered some special unplated pole pieces in case they need to look dirty... Really would love to do some torched chrome covers on this one but I really hate the sound of a HB with a cover (again superstitiously believing I can really tell the difference). I always thought that covered (shielded) pickups were quieter than those with exposed coils, what is your theory about the difference?
  7. Not oil. Mineral Spirits...sorry about the confusion. Mineral spirits eventually will flash off after a few hours. The pictures are taken over the course of 3 days. I always sand my joints then blow them off right before gluing them (even if it has only been a day since cutting). A fresh joint is a strong joint. Titebond does not like old wood surfaces... For epoxy joints I usually hit them with acetone before actually gluing them up (superstition). My mistake, Thanks a lot for the info.
  8. Great build. I noticed you oiled the body before glueing the neck, is there any danger of the oil afecting the glueing? or you just don't let the oil get into the mortice. Did I mention this is a great build?
  9. Nice job. How many coats of true oil does it have?
  10. Nice save! I bet it will not show when finished.
  11. That fretboard looks awesome, great work!
  12. That was a screw up where I slipped when using the bandsaw roughing it out. It's sanded but the cut is deeper than I was willing to sand back, the fact it stands out now doesn't bother me as when I spray the burst, it'll be invisible - covered by black. The guitar looks beautiful as it is now, can't wait to see the burst.
  13. That's a very classy looking guitar. Nice.
  14. The laminations on that neck look sick!
  15. Anytime, by the way, this is one beautiful gtr.
  16. Be sure to separate the lead from the cap that is touching the pot side, otherwise that pot will also cut output instead of highs.
  17. I really like the un-filled mahogany look.
  18. No Sir, it is not, it is very detailed an informative and I thank you for that. Jose.
  19. Recessing the bridge to eliminate the neck angle is really common. On a Les Paul or similar design (single cut) you think the carve would look too diferent or wierd? I was thinking this way, (no angle) would leave more material in the back of the joint so it would be easier to carve a smooth heel reminiscent of Gibson Alex Lifeson Axcess. Thanks. Jose.
  20. Awesome build! I was wondering if the bridge could get recessed even more and use no angle in the neck at all. Would it be viable? How do you think it would affect the carve? Thanks. Jose.
  21. Hi, new one here:) Just wanted to thank you for all the detail and info you put into your threads and builds. For someone like me who is still learning, this is priceless! I do care! Jose.
