  1. Few more piks. Omega F neck (bottom left above) Black walnut with a maple centre strip, Ash pinstrips either side of the maple. Walnut headstock & rosewood fretboard. Heavy white binding fretted out to edge of bind. Volute. And heel Thats the Alpha neck you can see beside it with the abalone inlays. Headstock roughed out. End of fretboard. (its the neck on the right)
  2. OK. Bit of an update on these. Not much as I have been hammered with a dose of the plague but I got a little done regardless. Omega standard, body carve started, Neck scarfed. planed & ready to be truss chanel routed. Another 2 Omega & one Alpha neck on the go.
  3. groovey man. lookin real good. So now you have a red one to go with the blue one, you need a green one next -_-
  4. Yea I think we all were. But eventually I got sick of guitar makers not building what i wanted to play so I started making my own. Innovation central here I come !! except it turns out that what I like is actually fairly traditional , But they are good, so screw it
  5. I sense a disturbance in the force - I mean finish
  6. Whenever I use rustins as a candy like this, I always put 3 coats of clear over the tinted stuff & buff that. Comes up realy sweet
  7. Its like you were reading my mind man http://www.aeolianguitars.com/photo11425122.html Except that I still hav a little to do with my own chopper - not quite as progressed as yours. Nice gitir so far, should come out real nice i rekon
  8. Does the product not have mix ratios stipulated for it ? Everything I have ever used says it righ on the packaging or tin.
  9. You dont need to spray, Although there are finishes that specify a gun for application. Most of those are Automotive 2K finishes, I suspect that is what Demonx is talking about. After all the guy is a petrol head (even more so than me) so he is talking from his own experiance. But if you read his post he does specifically mention Auto 2K. To properly answer your question we need to know how you want/plan to apply your finish, Do you even have spraying equipment ? If not then brush/wipe on 2K might be your only options. Those can be applied in a myriad of ways, brush on, wipe on with a rag, sponge, I have even dipped bodies in the past - still do sometimes.
  10. Weight is a bit of a funny issue. I like heavy gitirs, My all time fave is a Les paul type thing i built myself a few years ago that weighs just under 10lbs. But then another of my best is a single cut that weighs a full 12.5lbs. That one belongs to a good client of mine who niknamed it the hammer of god because of its massive weight If its heavy, then get a wide strap, Usualy weight is only an issue if the strap is thin. Failing that - join a gym & pack on a few stones. It will get real light then.
  11. You get that a lot with quilt if you do it right. I typicaly use AAA at the very most. Anything more than that just has too much going on & looks crap (my opinion). AAA tends to look like rippels in water & AA looks like clouds (again, opinion, or whatever im smoking) But that gitir looks groovey man. You should get a few piks in the sunlight to realy see the figuring pop out -_-
  12. Demonx has it spot on there. OK some of the tools on stewie mac might seem pricey, But where else can you get them at the same level of quality for the money. I can easily go to a machine shop & get parts made up for tools, I have the design background & can produce my own CAD or CAM drawings. But even so, I would pay more than I would from Stewie mac. I say support them. I get as much as I can from them when I need it. Even if its not entirly warrented, I buy maple tops from them even though I have a heap of them here. I use their fretboards for about 20 guitars a year even though I can make my own for a fraction on the cost. I can make their hotrod truss rod from scratch in about 20 mins but I still buy in a load every year. As to their fretting cauls. I have a full set that I use here, & so does my slaveprentice. You should get them, For the cost, you get a set of tools that will most likely outlive your guitar building days
  13. Yeah.....I do feel a bit guilty about all the pics. The set before this was never intended to be the final set....and Muzz called me on the control cavity cover. It's not done till you get a cover on it, says he. Everyone always moar pics! So I put up moar pics. What the hell, it was a fun build and I'm happy with it. I got me a nice guitar and sharing is at least half the fun. The rest of you....thanks for the kind words. Paulie, thanks for your encouragement all thoughout my last couple of builds. Let me know when you need someone to polish your frets. I'm ready to quit my day job and move to Dublin. SR ha ha ha ha. No problems man. But seriously, this gitir came out great. Just a pity we have to wait for the next build now.
  14. Most likely, yea. All get put in a furnace. Sounds like a deal was struck that allows both parties to save face. Gibson pays a big fine & looses a huge pile of materials, making an example of them to others. you know "we dont care how big you are - if you break the law were gona nail you". Then they donate a nice round sum towards timber conservation as a gesture to proove they are environmentaly conscious. So then they go back to production & any further embarrising enqueries are avoided - so neither Gibson or the state has to deal with any further probing into the situation, regardless of who screwed up what. Politics & money man. all one big mess. in the current economic climate - would you like to be the guys seen as closing down the biggest name in an industry thats seen as a piece of America ? You'd be about as popular as an Italian administration closing down Ferrari.
  15. Western Red, As far as I know. Im not completly convinced it is what the supplier says as its a laughably light selection I have here. I mean its heading toward Balsawood territory. that blank weighs fook all, even with the ash, wenge & maple. I made a les paul type thing a while back with it & the damned thing weighed less than a chambered alder strat
  16. Beginin to wonder about the sound from these, A lot of good maple on the tops there. should be prety groovy
  17. Ah yes. termanology, the correct phrasing or application appropriat naming of a componant. Fookin truss rod/bullet nuts !!!!. suddenly the supplier knows what im talking about. Mikro your a god send, This is what happens when you buy a box of 1000. By the time you run out - nobody knows what your trying to order anymore.
  18. Was looking at them earlier, They would do I rekon. But my use of their site is restricted for some reason The ones I used to get had no knurl on the top edge & a slightly thinner wall, If I cant get them again Ill go with these jobbies, If I can get far enough on their site to find out a cost for them
  19. Im looking for some allenuts. I had a box of 100 but i used them all up. Now I cant find a damned suppler !! These are the adjuster nuts you find on those stewie mac hot rods & the like. Anybody know where I can find some ?
  20. Glad you guys like it, Got very little done today. Cleaned up a maple blank for the other Alpha's neck & slotted 2 boards for it. Cant decide wether to go with another Wenge or if I should use ash. got a neck for each of the Omegas going, Ill get piks up tomorrow when there is a bit more to see.
  21. The other 2 guitars are Alpha models. Both have Poplar bodies with bolt on necks. 2x humbuckers, 1x vol, 1x tone, 3 way toggle. Alpha 10. Trem model body blank before edge trimming . Alpha standard. This one is fairly advanced in the build. Teaching my Nephew to spray candy colours, Few runs but not bad for his first time with a gun. Cherry pigment in the clear over yellow poplar = Candy Orange. I rekon its cool, some might think it a bit bold or flash. But screw it, so what. Test fitting a neck & selecting a board. Single piece Ash for this I rekon, Wenge board, Chrome hardware. Thats it for the time being. Ill get some more up as I progress.
  22. OK. Got hold of a camera. So here are a few piks of where I am just now with this current batch of builds. On the bench today are, 3 Omegas & 2 alphas. The earlier piks are gone im afraid, but Im not too far into a few of these so it may still make an interesting thread. Anway, 3 omegas, 1 Alpha, 10 Low whistles & 25 truss rods Im gona be busy for a while Omega standard body blank, Poplar. Omega F (Floating trem model). Ash with Walnut skunk stripe. This one is heavily chambered with a number of small compartments. Ash top over an Ash back. Omega Custom. Cedar body with figured maple top, this one is flamed with Wenge & Ash striping. These will all have 24.75 scale, 2x humbuckers, 1x vol, 1x tone, 3 way toggle. 3 a side heads on multi lam necks.
