    Ive seen the pyramid inlay on the tutorial, and many other posts on the vine inlay, but does anyone know where to get a drawing of the dna jem inlays? Search yielded no results. Just curious

    Ive searched the forum and I still have one question. When measuring for neck pocket depth, (neck+fretboard-saddle hight at lowest setting) do you measure the neck on the fret for the highest point, or on the wood of the fretboard? 5/8 rule isnt going to work this time.

    I made my own just using measurements from another guitar I had apart. Transfered the measurements onto a piece of half inch particle board, marked the centers, and cut rough with a scroll saw. Then sanded to the lines. They work just fine for me.

    I haven built one personaly, but the reviews I read basically say the guitar is in major need of hardware and pickup upgrades, and the veneer is extreemly thin. Also heard of one instance where the neck screws are too long and went through the fretboard. Thats why I decided not to purchase one. Keep us updated, and good luck with the build

    Building electric guitars by Martin Koch is another book I would recommend, as I have Melvins book as well. Between both books and this forum, you should have plenty of resources for your first build. Welcome to the site, and the wonderful world of guitar building.

    Using krylon paints and krylon crystal clear. had no problems yet , just let the clear dry for at least 3 weeks before wetsanding and buffing. 5 thin coats color and 10 coats clear

    I know an ex series has a different size neck and pocket than a rg series for sure. Ive also seen a hack put a non aanj neck on an aanj body. Driled right through the fretboard too. OUCH Double check your fit to be sure. Great CD by the way jehle(music and tech info). Well worth the money.

    Guitarplansunlimited.com has 2 versions of the iceman one of which was drawn for me (I wanted a version with a floyd rose) The prices are reasonable and the take requests. I just thought it would be cool to hang the finished guitar next to a set of full size blueprints

    Actually, Im wondering the same thing. I jumped at the purpleheart because of the look, and I didnt consider tone or weight untill after I started doing some reasearch. If you are going to band saw the body, use a thin blade with a higher teeth per inch count, or cutting the body will be a nightmare. (still have all 10 fingers...,.whew).

    What about using a tissue box cover. The plastic would probably give better tone than cardboard, and the come in custom colors too

    Look in the tutorial section under building bodys. There is a topic on building an electric guitars. The project was a blue 7 string Universe style guitar.

    Im not 100 percent sure about dean, but the headstock for my washburn dime isnt symetrical like the one in the pic. The top is a touch longer.

    I was looking for opinions on what to finish the neck in for that satin feeling. Also how do i mask the fretboard or frets without that paint line where the masking wil be placed. Should I mask the neck at the binding, or scuff(3m pad) the binding after finishing to smooth the transition?

    Had to do some routing on the conversion i just did(single locking trem to edge conversion) Posts worked out ok.

    I believe jemsite.com has a set of blueprints for a floral jem body somewhere.

    Im not sure how much info you can find, but I believe SIMS custom shop does the LED inlays. Either a google search or jemsite.com I think has a Banner for SIMS. You can try there.

    I figured on a 80 percent chance of getting sawdust in my eye, rushing out of my workshop and cracking my head on the way out. Thanks for your help. I sure dont want a piece of 40 dollar firewood.

    Redone and refinished, modified and restored a couple of guitars already.Im on my way to building my 1st guitar from scratch. I have a basic template for the body shape and i dont know if it would be easier to draw the trem cavity and pickup onto the blank and use the straight edge of the blank to help guide the router, or to cut out the body shape out and use templates to cut out the cavities. Anyone done both and had an easier time one way? Thanks
