  1. Would woven polyester work for a material-finishing a guitar? Its the same stuff that flags (the type you use outside, Like on a flagpole) are made out of...
  2. Looks like a trip to hobby lobby may be in order... I'm guessing the "dope" stuff is available there, too?
  3. Bridge radius should = radius of fretboard at the closest point to the bridge itself (the heel area of the neck. Nut radius should bvoiusly come close to the radius of the fretboard at the nut-end. Then you have coumpound radiused strings, too!
  4. I think theres plenty of tutorilas that cover most everything, but there doesnt seem to be a single tutorial that still has pics that shows a set neck guitar being built... they're all neck through and bolt-on!
  5. ahh... I see (said the blind man ) Looks like I might have to slap a couple toggle switches on my project and get me some'a'dat FANCEH wirin' goin' on!
  6. Okay, I really couldn't find a straight answer on this by searching, but can anyone explain to be what wiring humbuckers and series or parallel does, and how it affects the sound? Only having worked with single coild and one simple coil-split 'bucker, I'm not entirely sure what all this mumbo-jumbo is about...
  7. Wheres the Tele-gang to rip on that Trem?? I guess I'll do it for them: SHAME on you!!
  8. It's model paint used for model cars or model rockets. I had a spare can of a few colors and the purple was the best look. A quick trip to the Hobby Lobby, and I had 4 little 3 oz rattle cans of it. Each can was just enough for one coat of paint on one side of the body. At $3 a can, it's pretty darn cheap. ← So what is it - Acrylic? Enamel?
  9. mightn't it look better if you cut a regular chrom Tele control plate to form to the top part of the strat jack, so that they appear like one big piece, like in the mock-up? I like the painted (?) fretboard though
  10. Testors? What type of paint is that?? -edit And thats an interesting idea there, with the angled pup right above the bridge humbucker.. Let us know how that sounds so maybe I can take a leaf out of your book and do something with this old spare tele pup.
  11. Whoa, don't knock it until you've tried it. We got a thread rolling around featuring a number of guitars that have been covered with rattlecan laquers, poly, etc. Nothing wrong with using rattlecans. ← Word. Rattlecans have a place in my heart, at least untill i get a decent sprayer.
  12. I would think it would be somewhat like a Les paul only 30% heavier and a whole mess darker, and probably muddy without some major tone tweakage in the amp.
  13. Shouldn't be a problem. I'll be putting some 6 in line schallers on this old Teisco neck, and its a 4 & 2... so 2 of them will be "back'erds"
  14. Musiciansfriend carries an archtop tele that Fender put out for them.
  15. The capacitors with 2 parallel lines are normal Film or Ceramic caps, non-polarized. The ones with the positive (+) sign are electrolytic (polarized) with the positive lead facign in the direction of the (+) sign. I dont remember that particular schematic needing 3 different types of pots.. and I'm only seeign two on the schem... You should be fine with just a Linear and a reverse Log (if you have somewhere that it NEEDS a reverse log, according to the schem you could use linear taper pots for both of them.) Log stands for... Log. xD I really am not clear what it means. Theres no certain brand of anything you need, a cap is a cap and a resitor is a resistor. Just make sure you have the right IC. Having the wrong IC isnt good! (There are some really trciky schems that require certain brands of IC)
  16. 2w? Good GOD, man! They'll work, but next time try and get a hold of some 1/4w or 1/2w resistors!
  17. Well, from the other forum, if your using it on unsealed ash, straight tru-oil will be almost no protection. With the 50/50 naptha he got a nice hardness after a few coats, if i recall correctly.
  18. Isn't orange peel common with clear nitro? It would come out in the final sanding and polishing.
  19. I think it would be hell to try and reftret a painted body, because if something ever happened to the fretboard yu'd never be able to level-sand it without effing it up.
  20. I'll see what i can do.. most i've ever done with a dremel was eradicate the rust from the tremelo of my Teisco... time to look for some instructions!
