  1. i did it on a fender squire neck that had the tinyest little frets.
  2. i never got it did u forget the r in the middle of my addressname?
  3. ok well i'm looking that i can't find it anymore, but i did stumble onto this on the jemsite Ibanez "EDGEADJUST3" for Lo-Pro Edge. Available from Ibanez directly for $20 + S/H. Phone 215-638-8670. which is this OH WAIT!!!!!! found it http://guitarlandmusic.free.fr/lcoutilsdivers.htm but that might be the tool for the original style floyd's with the whale tail. hope that helps, and sorry for the wait...
  4. Seriously!!!!! vinnie sounds the same, if not better live, just cause he's actually good, and he has such a simple "rig" if u can even call it that..... Puckets of skill ->Sweet guitar->Marshall head -> boss delay ->4 speakers.... and i think he had a crybaby for one song... but still i mean, that's got to be the simplest rig i've ever seen for a player that good..
  5. get some super distortion's!!!!!!! personaly i love maple necks, "too bright" isn't so much a yes or no question, it's all preference, try it out and if it doesn't work, u can always rout out some chucks of maple on the back of the guitar and put in some mahogany or other darker sounding woods in, then refinish the guitar, (anyone know what i'm talking about?) or just try pickups with less treb, like a set of super distortion's.... or just switch from 500k to 250k pots...
  6. u've sparked my interest as well, can u forward that email my way aswell? derekrneil@hotmail.com
  7. i'm pretty sure stewmac just invested into some giant sanding drums (20, 24, 28, 32.... etc in diameter), and they just lay a long peice of maple on it till the bottom has the appropriate radius, then they cut it to what ever length they desire,
  8. did u guys take this to email? would flatsawn? (perpendicular to quatersawn) be ok for necks if u cut it and turned it to make a laminted neck out of 4 peices of 2x1 for a neck thru? like made a laminated quatersawn board out of several flatsawn peices?
  9. see above.... just a couple recommendations to save u money...
  10. ya, that's about what i figured, thanks for the info
  11. I have been pondering idea of buying some lumber 1" x 9" that has a nice figure to it and just trying to make my own bookmatched veneer's, but i'd like to get as many possible out of it (the whole idea here is to save money) But i haven't got the slightest clue on how to cut them properly. I'm guessing a bandsaw is what i'll need? To bad i don't own one, so that's out. Maybe if i take my lumber to a deli and ask really nice? I'd ask the local exotic woods store to do it for me, but they charge 20$ if i want them to cut a board on a bandsaw (like to make 3 fingerboard blanks from a peice of 1x3) so god knows how much they'd charge me to cut a peice 1x9 into 15 or so veneer's....
  12. the wood will generaly run u about 100$, 10$ for fret wire, 10$ for pots, and 5$ for the output, after that, it all depends on ur tastes, u can spend 100$ more.... or grab a set of used 7 string pickups for about 10$ a peice of ebay if ur not to picky, bridge probably about 30$ u might want to get that new, and tuners, 20$ (if u shop around), nut 3$?, and what ever u want to spend on paints..... so ur looking at around 200$ base price.
  13. i thought about the same thing before i ordered mine, it's alot of work to try and make ur own that are actually precise enough to use on a guitar neck. to make 1 or 2 it's not a bad plan, but if u want to make like a set of 6 or something, and have like long ones and short ones in each radius... that's like a month's worth of very precise work... or a day or 2 if u don't take extended lazy ass breaks like me GL!
  14. ya richie had the half scalloped frets on the entire neck, he had the best of both worlds, on a accoustic? are u maD!?
  15. ya, the half scallop has it's up's and downs'. The pro's are that u don't have to be as carefull with chording (coming back to the "light touch" issue, and u have the freedom of a scallop on the upper frets for shredding. Con's are, well it can be a bit frusterating, cause i agree with the above, u have to play scalloped a bit differently, and switching back and forth could get agervating, it also looks kinda odd i'd say if u want to try it out on a neck, get the whole thing done.
  16. depending on how small the sketch is, u may not be happy with what it looks like once it's "full size", i would suggest using some base shapes, either the ones u like the most or, the one it most resembles, then work from there in full size pictures on a big desk to get what u want. but the projector sounds like the easiest idea if u have one handy.
  17. ya, PG would be awsome on stage, the 3 of them could do an AMAZING version of technical difficulties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. it's a cool sensation, and really neet for doing lead work cause ur more connected and in control of the strings, that said, if ur not the most tallented lead player, it's going to show a bit more. i liked it, but i ended up taking that fingerboard off the neck cause the fret spacing wasn't correct. i might do it again to a neck but for now jumbo frets will do fine since i'm used to little tiny fender frets..
  19. check out this funky guitar!! i wish i had the cash!!RG 550 link woopse... it's a 550, not a 560.. meh...
  20. u mean brushed steal? ya i'm one of those anti ibanez tremolo guys, well not that it's ibanez i dislike, it's the whole "liscenced" genre.. though there are some good copies ou there, i prefer the real thing, i snagged a brand new still in box real Floyd Pro on ebay for 135$
  21. i really don't see yngwie's style being well rounded enough (unlike his hot air ballon head) to play along side vai and satch, i mean the guy's really at what he does, but not incredibly versitile, i'm suprised he didn't start playing slower to make it look like he knew more then just those 5 sweeps and arps... either way, should be fun to watch vai play circles around him, and still look like the better man.
  22. 24,000 grit? that's like royal toilet paper isn't it?
  23. umm... i guess i'd like to know if lacewood needs to be finished? or can i leave it raw?..... actually... i'll probably seal it anyways... i guess i'm just curious now. Like what is the best way(easiest) to finish/oil a hardwood that doesn't require a finish, but needs one to keep from oxidizing and turning brown, like purple heart, satine(bloodwood?) or padouk?
  24. i second that motion (seens how it will save me 40$) i smell a poll, or pinned topic arrising from this
  25. those bench's are life savers, i always assumed everyone here was using one. if ur using templates for the cavities to be routed you shouldn't have to much trouble, just rout from the outside inward is all i can remember, and take ur time and make sure the router base is well supported and is laying flat on the guitar, u should be fine. both my guitars were completely routed after being ruff cut out to shape, the first one i didn't even have templates for, just did it by eye
