  1. thats terrific! I just use popsicle sticks haha my gun is a siphon feed. I think that would be the case with top feed, but the siphon feeds would simply just suck up whatever it sucks up, mixed or otherwise. I usually just mix for about 30 seconds, never gave it much thought!
  2. Wife has my damn camera -.- I am stuck using my phone to take pictures, and its not sending them for some reason... I managed to get ONE picture through, but since this picture I refined the body shape more, did the neck route, finished the back (3/4" round over around the edges), stained, and am currently oiling the back (want the back done before I finish the front). This whole project is just coming out great, Im pretty much in love with how its going
  3. OMG. That inlay...... thats amazing!!!!! If you've never worked with redwood before, be very careful with it! It's my least favorite wood ever... its such a shame it looks so damn good though lol. Also, you can get epoxy dyes at hobby stores, any color. If you're in the usa, hobby lobby sells it, and its really cheap too. Just makes it take longer to dry.
  4. Hey guys. I have an inline filter, I dont think theres moisture in the line. The "spec" for mixture is 1 pint per gallon.... so a 1/8 ratio. I mix 1 cup with 30cc's, but that didnt dry, I tried 20, ive tried 40, both dont cure. I got it to cure ONCE. ONCE. And this is when it pulled back. this was over a painted guitar body. If you look, you can see it pulling back from the edges. I may have to redo the finish all over again, or maybe I can add some more clear. What I may not be doing is mixing it long enough? If this is a problem that may be my stupidly simple solution.... I'm wasting a lot of money "experimenting", and its getting old!!! I appreciate all you guys chiming in... I wish I could be more specific about all this, I just dont know what Im messing up. This blue one is crap, the damn paint dried sticky in some parts and others it cured. Maybe it IS my mixing?
  5. Phew lol. Wasn't expecting this deluge of replies... I have an HVLP spray rig. Im having the following problems 1) I cant seem to mix my polyester correctly. I've tried a little bit of hardner, Ive tried a relatively lot of hardner. I cant figure it out. 2) I painted one guitar that DID dry, and the damn paint shrunk back a ridiculous amount. I have a LOT of experience painting and buffing, thats not my problem. I just cant seem to mix/spray this crap correctly, and Im not sure what Im doing wrong. What I need is a book on the science of mixing this evil liquid Thank you gents
  6. Not my cup of tea, but I respect the craftsmanship required to make them come out that well! I'd love to see that idea materialized in a different way.
  7. There are some tools from stewmac that I just wont buy... some of those pliers, drill bits, and other stuff are just over priced because they are tailored to the building community, so no thanks to those. That said, I have no problem buying the stuff I need from them. I know some of that stuff is one off and would be expensive to have made, I just think its funny Ill spend 25$ on an arbor press and MORE for the caul lol
  8. I can google to my hearts content, but if someone has a really good tutorial or book to recommend Im all ears... thanks in advance!
  9. man thats just incredible dude...
  10. Holy crap your workshop leaves me in awe! For some reason this seems really much more elegant then the drawing portrays I hope it comes out well!
  11. Wow that looks delicious..... Probably very similar to my peice indeed! I will be giving this peice LOTS of thought. Perhaps a PRS single cut style build.... Not sure though.
  12. That looks so good man. So much for that "2a" quilt
  13. chambering or not, thats gonna be one heavy back breaker lol Like the reuse idea
  14. man that just looks incredible! Great work!
  15. thanks man, and yes ISH. The body is cut out oversized. Koa is probably the hardest wood I've ever worked on so it chipped when I cut it. Im pretty sure my final dimensions will make that disappear, once I get that way. If it's still there, I will inlay a peice to match and cram in there.
  16. Neck is finished, shaping wise. (obviously pictures were taken BEFORE I finished lol) It perfectly fits into the axis body, which means I did SOMETHING right Oh yeah, neck holds into joint wihtout bolts Anywho, got body rough cut to shape, and working on contouring sides. It will test my patience, so I will only be doing small bits at a time. Ive come this far, Im not about to screw it up now Still pleased with this neck joint so far. No surprises anywhere I can see.
  17. prices have gone up? O.o Apparently I need to snag some of these local ones haha, they are all dirt cheap.
  18. Man I just love no nonsense cavities. Well done dude.
  19. ? ...Don't know what you mean there...I don't think it comes with a finish? ... Unless you ordered your warmoth neck without a finish, it will have a finish. You ARE welcome to use common sense to figure the rest out
  20. Why cant we edit posts.... gonna do this again?
  21. Matsumako hand built finery. Awesome score, these are under valued farrrrr too much in my opinion. Do her justice!
  22. My oh My how I wish I had a bandsaw righ tnow -.- anyway, glue joints came out pretty solid for me. Not 10000% perfect, but No super obvious gaps, anyway. The body glue line is visible, but im hoping it will sand back well enough. In any case, this is getting REALLY exciting for me I hope the guitar continues to be built smoothly.
  23. I made some finger board blanks of this stuff, its super tight grained, and very very smooth even after a simple rough cut. Im pretty sure its going to make an absolutely fantastic fretboard. I've played on some pau ferro guitars, has the look of rosewood but the feel of ebony, tough to beat for sure!
