  1. Honestly(even though I love refinishing guitars...) I would leave that just the way it is. Kinda reminds me of a "hazard yellow" Jackson Rhoads paint job. I think it's great. Dave->
  2. I'm not sure if your aware of this but you could always try a scarf joint. It hides a little better than the "ears" This site shows you how: scarf joint Hope that helps..... Dave->
  3. Yes, I completely understand that the new member crap is ridiculous but why be a part of it? I know what I'm capable of in guitar building, and the last thing that I want anyone to think is that I had to "cheat" to win or someone pissed off at me because they thought that thier project was more creative or skilled worthy to be losing to me. Not worth it to me I guess. Thanks for your kind words anyway though.......... Dave->
  4. Well, i have to say I feel uneasy about this whole thing now. Since I'm the one who is leading in this, I feel you guys are directing this crap at me. Believe me, in no way, would I pull this kind of garbage as "ramping up votes". I wouldn't have even entered my name in this contest if it weren't suggested that I do so. Brian, please do me a favor and pull me out of this thing as I want no part of it if it's going to be like this. I thought this place might be a little different than other forums but I guess they are all getting to be the same now. I really thought this was going to be a place where I could learn and help out wherever I could but I don't want to be any part of this trivial crap. Sorry if I offended anyone in any way but I'm done. Dave->
  5. Man, if that's true, that's just plain sad..... Dave->
  6. Also, to achieve the marbling or fissure effect, I've heard of people using feathers to drag paint at a "grained" type angle and it works very well for giving you that look. Dave->
  7. Yes I have to agree with you that THAT particular Jackson doesn't look that great. However, I have seen some excellent versions of that graphic where they were much more detailed and intricate. Dave->
  8. I just posted a pic of the Jackson model. Dave->
  9. If you mean the granite look, what I would do is actually carve the cracks into the wood and maybe use that fleckstone paint and then highlight the cracks with black and grays to make them look "deep". I believe Jackson actually made one of the 3D guitars. Dave->
  10. Is the neck painted or clear coated wood? Dave->
  11. Black Sabbath's Paranoid and the one everyone knows...... SMOKE ON THE WATER!! Dave->
  12. Yes, didn't you receive a PM from me? Thanks so much, Dave->
  13. Hey there, would anyone have a set of these ? They are for a 3+3 headstock and should be in nice condition. I have a set of chrome if you wish to trade too. Thanks so much!! Dave-> budman6899@yahoo.com
  14. I also wanted to point out that I did it with charcoal pencils rather than just regular pencils. Thanks wes! Dave->
  15. Hey Newc! Good to see you here bro!! I'd comment on how I like your project so far but you already know don't you? Dave->
  16. That's almost exactly what I did with this Charvel Model 5a Brian. It works great, I just have to do all the wetsanding now and she'll be done. It's actually white primer! BTW, good to see you here newc!! Dave->
  17. Very nice project so far, I've been wanting to do a tele for some time now. Hmmmm how about a neckthru? Dave->
  18. Hey there, yeah I like the nylon but I think I'm going to stick with the bronze for now though. Ford: I have had no experience with FAAS but I do hear great hings from them. I used an under the saddle piezo connected to a Barcus Berry preamp that I retrofitted into the cavity of the guitar. It was originaly in a little black box on it's own but I wanted to make it an "on board" unit. Thanks for the comments! Dave->
  19. Well, I did the nylon and the bronze also now and I must say the bronze is the best in my opinion. The nylon, as always, just does not have the sustain that I like. Again, please forgive my playing as I can't play for crap as I'm STILL rusty lol! Here is the nylon: Nylon strings And here are the Bronze strings: Bronze strings Dave->
  20. Excellent point.......I hate sanding dust LOL!
  21. I too use a rasp, and then switch to a bastard file and then a cabinet scraper. Quick and efficient wood removal. Dave->
  22. I always use a joiner when gluing up "like" wood surfaces. Come on, doesn't anybody watch Norm Abrahms in the "New Yankee Workshop"? Dave->
