  1. Beautiful work thus far. I can't wait to see that dye finish.
  2. My garage is a total disaster area. My solution? Build a new, bigger, garage!
  3. The color cast looks like florescent lighting.
  4. Simply gorgeous! Being a car guy, I adore the Ferrari shift-gate detail.
  5. I have uploaded three more videos of this build to my YouTube channel. The laquer is curing and I will be demoing how to make some cheap neck checking tools in the next one.
  6. All I can say is, holy crap, that is amazing.
  7. Looking really good so far. I think it will be a beautiful axe when complete.
  8. In the 3rd photo, you show what appears to be an aluminum neck template. Did you make that or buy it? can you post the measurements so I might replicate it?
  9. So I posted the second video of my kit build, the third video will up tomorrow. Do any of you guys have advice on sanding super thin laminate?
  10. That is some gorgeous wood. I look forward to seeing this come together.
  11. Hi, I'm brand, spanking new here and have just read this whole thread. It is inspiring to see the progress you have made since your first build! I too am unemployed, so I feel your financial pain there. I am hoping to make a living from my YouTube channel where I build guitars and give them away to subscribers. I have only posted two videos so far, but the response has been very positive. The awesome thing about using inexpensive materials is that it lets you practice more. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching!
  12. For gluing thin, flat surfaces, I use slabs of granite. I sourced mine (for free) from a local countertop jobber and got a couple of the waste pieces that come out from the sink hole. You can cut it using a diamond blade on a circular saw, just go slow and take shallow cuts. You end up with perfectly flat surfaces and can stack weights on top for additional pressure. Loving the build so far!
  13. This is amazing. I am really enjoying the thought process you are going through. Making the R&D mule out of cheap wood is brilliant. I can't wait to see the result of your labor.
  14. Hi guys (and gals)! I am not just new to this site, but to guitar building as well. I have created a YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6U6BfZTF3u_K2G-rql_HsQ ) to document my progress. Once I complete a build, it will be given away to one of my subscribers who comments on at least one video of the build series. I am certain I will make mistakes and do things differently from how the awesome luthiers on this site would and I welcome your feedback. The first video is a review of the inexpensive kit I am using for my first build. You can see it here. I look forward to your comments and critiques.
  15. Absolutely gorgeous build! Oh, hello, by the way. Your skill, patience, and finesse are both inspiring and intimidating. Perhaps someday I will begin to approach your level of craftsmanship.
