  1. Yeah, the 7420 is Japanese. I had one. Clearly said "Made in Japan" on the back of the headstock. End of argument. I'm not sure if I've ever owned a Korean guitar. But I did own a Squier Strat that was made in Indonesia. Man, that thing SUCKED.
  2. Do you mean two truss rods in the same channel? If so, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. On the other hand, a fair number of 6-string basses have two truss rods side to side [well, with a gap inbetween].
  3. That sounds totally sweet, dude! Wish I kept my Squier, now .. Excellent work! Oh, and this MP3 is totally rad ... I was on my third listen before I realized it looped. Heh. Great work man!
  4. That's a sweet bass, dude. Love the pickguard! Is it fretless? I can't tell from the pics ..
  5. Any reason this wouldn't work?: Graphtech Ghost Piezo Pickup Saddles
  6. Yeah, okay, it may take a lot of work. But, honestly, the only better things I have to do are prepare for grad school and adjust my emotional health to be able to handle a complete change of lifestyle and surroundings. And I mean, who really wants to do that?
  7. Oh, sweet! Maybe the neck I get [hopefully Monday!!!] will have it too! If not .. well, I'm sure I'll have a ton of mahogany leftover. Mmm...maple neck with mahogany volute.
  8. Did you special order your Carvin neck, then? From what I can tell from the pics, your V has a volute.
  9. I can so tell I'm not the target demographic for the guitar - I think it looks terrible, and sound replication is utterly pointless IMHO. But then again I'm all about simplicity.
  10. Bah, what a pain. I'll just varnish the sucker. I'm looking for a finish that's clear, doesn't totally strangle the tone of the guitar, but requires no maintenance. But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself - I haven't even received the neck yet.
  11. I'd throw up a picture of my LP Studio, but it looks exactly like Budman68's, only sans pickguard and with a lot of smoke-staining. I feel inadequate, only having the one guitar. You guys ever think of getting professional help? How in the world can you keep that many guitars set up and playable!?
  12. Is grain filling necessary if you do a tung oil finish?
  13. I was seventeen when I started - first with my mom's crappy acoustic, then a friend gave me a State of the Art Strat ripoff. I'm 22 now, and I still suck. What's up with that?
  14. I voted for Jellycaster #3. I thought the other two were great, but I really like that Jellycaster - the shape is just too cool. Wes, I hope you can still find it in your heart to give me some info on adding a volute to that Carvin neck when I get to that point in my project. Had I remembered voting was coming up, I would've entered the two chunks of mahogany that I have.
  15. I'm probably going to end up going with this one: Hipshot Hardtail Bridge I'd like a TOM but given the radius differences plus the carved top problem, I think the Hipshot one will be easier to work with. Although, I suppose it would be possible to file down the saddles on a TOM to match the radius of a fretboard. I won't be the first to try it, though.
  16. I'd go with #2 as well, just because I hate those "vintage style" saddles. I'd avoid the 3-saddle version at all costs. It's 2003, not 1953 - there's no reason to have a bridge that's difficult or impossible to intonate. But that's just personal preference. In the end, go with what you want. That's what this hobby's all about.
  17. Please do! If I can somehow use a TOM on this guitar, I'd like to. Though if I can't, I'll end up using the Hipshot fixed bridge, which looks good as well. I received the mahogany wings yesterday. As soon as the neck comes in, I can finally start!
  18. Why bother with eBay? I'll pay you $14USD for it right now! An offer too good to refuse! Seriously man, that's a great deal. <envy>
  19. Come on, Jehle, let's stop this now. I mean, what's your point?
  20. I agree with Brian, looks great man! Congrats!
  21. kings_x: Nice guitar! That's almost exactly what I'm planning on doing. I have two questions for you, though [or anyone else]: 1. How adjustable is the TOM given that it's sitting in a cavity? I'd like to go with a TOM [by far my favorite bridge] but without the carved top [which I'm too much of a beginner to try], it seems impossible. The cavity sounds like a nice solution but looks like it would be hard to adjust. 2. The radius on the fretboard is 15", but most TOMs I've seen are 12" radius. Did you file down the notches in the TOM to compensate? I'm very excited right now because I just ordered the neck and a set of mahogany wings. I'm going to be pestering you guys to no end in the following months.
  22. I have a better solution than burning the haystack, to find this alledged needle. Get a really powerful magnet.
  23. I have no idea how to help you on that one, but.. Welcome to the board, YDoes...! Good to see another MP.com/JP.com person here.
