1. an addition to the whole elixer debate. i used to use nothing but dean markleys on my acoustic, and they sounded great, but once, and only once, the salesman at the music store convinced me to try something else, so i did. put on the elixer polywebs 13-53. a year and two months later, i still wasn't planning on getting new strings anytime soon. they just sounded amazing. i broke one, though, so gave in and bought a new set. scary part...the new ones sounded identical to the set i had just pulled off, proving that they do hold their tone for a crapload of a long time compared to other strings i've played on. i beat the hell out of my acoustic when i play, too. bends on high action as far as a major third, when strumming, i rival the volume (sometimes beat it) of a decent practice amp, and playing from open string up to the 15th (i'd go farther like i do on electic, but it's not a cutaway...). so these strings have pretty much sold me for life, now.
2. of those, mr. angus young. i love ACDC, as well as his SG...
3. i can watch that for hours on end...
4. one of 'em said dude...that's the one that speaks to my peer group, that's what i chose. the dixie chicks rock! celebrities against the president are fun. they can gimme a call anytime...
5. negatory. gotta keep your avatars...messes people up when you change 'em. i apologize, but there might be a change in mine soon...not sure, though. just not quite feeling the chicas.
6. oddly enough, you get 14 year old high school girls drunk and say sausage party, they come running. i've got a little bro (16) that has that happen all the time...it's sick... i just leave the house and go to my g/f's (18) house or the music store or something.
7. 7 hours with an iron...wow...that's hardcore dedication to your guitar...
8. i called them that 'cause there was an article that referred to them as "sound sticks." i just thought it was the name, not an editorial comment.
9. i don't have the website handy, unfortunately, but if you go to the bose website (whatever it is) i'm sure you'll find some info on 'em. basically, a stick about 6' tall and 3" in diameter that just sits up somewhere and can fill an entire auditorium. for bass, they have special add-on boxes. zero feedback, incredible frequency response (i played through one on bass w/o the extra box and it was still amazing...), and more sound than you could possibly imagine. get yourself a nice preamp and one of these, and there is nothing more you'll ever need. just figured i'd throw it out there, 'cause they're rather amazing.
10. i'd like to see a little more of everything. heck, anything is helpful. but i'll tell you that i really like just finding small and useful little tips and stuff. it's great to just find something that you're like, oh, didn't know that, and then you mod out your guitar so it's just that much cooler than your bandmate's.
11. my two cents (american) would be to cut it with the jigsaw, give yourself quite a bit of playing room outside where you want it, then rasp/sand it down. to me, that work is worth less than $100 of my time, so i really don't mind doing that. plus, it makes me feel more connected to the finished product. it's got more of me in it.
12. i'm planning on using a parallel neck on the SG i'm building with a recessed bridge. i'm way under-ability to do a carved to, heck, even to angle a neck pocket, and this seems so much easier as well as "different" and "cool." i'll let y'all know how it's going.
13. wire them both to a switch, one side = headphones, the other = amp. they'd be labeled, of course, like an LP pickup selector switch. that way, one jack, a lot less fuss.
14. good god, i had no idea there were over 30 ways to wire 3 single coils...
15. what does potting a pickup do for it? i just don't see how this could help with feedback... please, if someone has a link or something out there, of if you know yourself, lemme know, 'cause this is actually a whole new thing to me.
16. wow...new and already talking smack. head to the slam thread, man...
17. and i think i'm gonna drop my strat in again. that's me and my geets, the strat's all the way on the left, the one that looks like a strat front: back: blank headstock i cleaned up and put my sig on: and my fancy blue strap buttons: this was just a custom refinish/clean-up/fixer-upper job i did. it was formerly a laminated, mexican made affinity squier stratocaster. i put the standard (non-adjustable poles) fender p-ups on it, just to get rid of the nasty hum and crappy sounding ones that were on there, re-built the electronics (the same way they were) with better solder joints and whatnot, just to keep it clean, cleared the headstock, bought that alder body off my friend and attached my neck to it (the fretboard was silicon oiled, a special mixture that i worked on with a couple trombone players i know). the finish was done with minwax clear stain and minwax ebony stain, with a brushed on paint of some sort for the 1/4" outline on the flames. the blue strap buttons were spray painted, 'cause the last finish i had on it was metallic flake blue, so they matched.
18. when someone changes theirs, it throws me off big time...
19. i had the same problem, but when they chipped out, it was almost like they "peeled" out, so i could just take the piece that fell off and glue it back on.
20. me and my guitars and upright, minus my peavey foundation and my ukelele. hrmm...do i like natural finishes at all?
21.

Want a handy place to put all of your screws while working on a guitar? Two words: Altoids Can
Two more words: Muffin Tray. A tad bit more pricey than Altoids, but most have 12 'cups' for screws and such. They also come in handy when it comes to sequence. You can number them (Sharpie, nail polish, etc) so you know what screws to use when you put it all back together.
