  1. looks like a stage guitar and that cool. I built a v when I was in high school and it was a cool guitar back then. one thing you will always learn as you go this guitar is a little better then the one before. your 17 now I want to see what you build in a couple of years .I know I always learn from my building project.
  2. I like it and you have made this from scrap that would have been through away.
  3. I would agree spazzyone is correct looks like quarter pounders to me. if you look at the Duncan web site you will see the quarter pounders have 1/4 pole pieces.
  4. I bought 200 board foot of alder 1-1/4 thick a couple of years ago and I can let you buy some for a project .I can plane and sanded to thickness what size do you need and what kind of money do you want to spend. do you need one solid piece or can you use two pieces glued together. if your interested send me a email hope I can help
  5. yes I live in the usa working for nucraft furniture. the wood can't be used in our furniture and is considered defect because of the grain. I find a piece like this every once in a while.
  6. you can get pigment to add to lacquer to get any color you want. try stew mac and I have found wood craft pigments work good.
  7. tim_ado thanks I used some scrap I found at work. the wood I used would have found its way into a fire place I have always liked the walnut maple combination.
  8. yes they are a little big. it is what it is now so I will have to live with it. live and learn I say.I started to put them in and realized I got the wrong size
  9. here is the body curly walnut amd curly maple
  10. this birds eye maple fret board is for a walnut maple guitar body pictures soon. the finger board has a 12 degree radius so it should play nice.
  11. here is my thought if I was asked that question I would say prs all way but that is me. ask your self what you want in a special guitar. nice playing nice woods looks awesome. hard tail string through body or a Floyd rose kind of guitar. possibly a nice fender strat or tele [ single coil] or a humbucker guitar PRS with dragon pickups. I would think this has to be a guitar you will never sell or trade away. again if it was me I like the feel of a PRS custom 22 with a wrap around bridge. carvin make a nice carve top guitar that sound good and they play great for less then you might spend on a Prs or a JEM 777. 2000.00 can buy you a nice guitar if you shop around.
  12. I built a prs style guitar and I'm using the jb for the bridge and 59 in the neck. I also have a 80s carvin with stock pickups and they sound cool and with the switch for splitting the coils there is all kinds of combinations you can get.
  13. that looks like a sweet pin router.I have got to get one.
  14. soft maple is fine. I have used it with good results. I have made a couple guitar with soft curly maple for tops. one tele and one les Paul double cut away both have a nice sound. I used string through bridge on both I think that makes for more sustain. curly soft maple go for it Good luck.
  15. you did some reearch that is good. I have the jet 16'' a vary nice band saw 400.00 sounds like a good buy. I would buy it if I had the chance. a good set up is a must on any band saw
  16. Blue_Fingers_Jay Thoughtless 7 sounds like solid advice I took a break from playing for about 6 month then when I started again it was like finding a long lost friend. there is all kinds of guitar players the pros and then those that play for the enjoyment of just playing. I would find songs you want to play and look them up on the internet there is ton of music sites out there just keep looking and you will find it. take things slow and speed will come as you get better. we all learn at different speeds so what take me 20 minutes might take someone else a hour. if you can't read music learn to read tabs and then check out http://www.911tabs.com/ I find this site vary helpful
  17. my opinion I like the hard tail string through bridge. I have always liked hard tail strats and I love tele guitars. I have used hard tail string through on my last 4 builds 2 prs a strat and a tele. I think there is more sustain with a string through bridge. it is a little boring using he same bridge all the time but practice make perfect. I guess what ever works for your project. nothing wrong with the wrap around and it works vary well.
  18. you might learn something ask away and Good luck
  19. going a little thick is cool then you have sanding room amd you can always take it off but putting it back on is a trick. alder and maple are nice to work with and sound good together
  20. Hi Jarrod it sound like your going for a premium tone. I do the same thing I like a little more in a pickup. I love tele sound and have 4 tele guitars with different pickups in each one. I get a vary nice twang from a Seymour Duncan stk-t2b Hot stack for tele bridge pickup. nice country twang and a great Robben Ford sound. the pickup have the silver bar going across witch adds to the look if your going with chrome bridge and tuners. I use a bill Lawrence stacked strat witch has a nice warm tone. the Texas special pickups are vary cool I have them in a couple guitars one strat one tele the Texas special tele neck pickup is a vary nice sound.
  21. I just got done looking at there web site and they look like some nice stuff I might order a couple Violin Maker’s Planes and see what kind of stuff they have
  22. you might try and find a small wood shop or a school that might help you out with getting it to thickness for you. a lumber yard that sells hard wood is another thought. [not home depot] good luck
  23. every time you build you learn something. SwedishLuthier is correct when talking about Danelectro. give it a try if nothing else you will learn something. the more you build the better you get.
