  1. We need a tutorial on google seach because it seems alot of people dont know how to do it. I see alot of questions here that I just google and find what they say "I have looked everywhere and cant find it"
  2. After finding those I think I will get some for the Iceman I am working on.
  3. Very cool and I never thought it could be done that small. Good job cant wait to see it inlaid, thats awesome.
  4. First search I did and found them www.sperzel.com You can customize them with whatever color you want. here is another link with lots of colors http://www.tkinstruments.com/sperzel_photos.htm and this one scroll down for prices you can even do multi color for the different parts of the tuner http://www.tkinstruments.com/id75.htm
  5. The reason for the extra distance is because I filled in a huge hole where a tremolo was routed out. So I didnt want to go thru that area, I wanted something a little more stable for the strings to pull against instead of a piece that is glued in.
  6. From what I understand, is the guy did not supply the maple, so the guy is being an a-hole. If it was me I would gladly wait and keep my mouth shut. He is getting a beautiful guitar built.
  7. /\ /\ /\ What he said, that is a nice looking guitar you have there, I cant believe the reasoning of some people. He actually thinks that he can change the deal and walk away with that guitar and you get nothing? Tell him to get bent.
  8. I bought a waterslide decal kit (for model cars)from Hobby Lobby and they work great it even comes with software that you can use to create your design.
  9. That dremel base works fine, and yes freehand with the base. No cleanup afterwards, those downcut bits from stew mac work great. The smallest one is so small that it gets in the corners pretty good. I was pretty exited after doing the first star because it was my first attempt at inlay. So i look forward to doing more inlay in the future but next time I will cut my own inlays.
  10. Thanks, those down cut bits really do a good job and the filler powder really hides the gaps where I cut too much.
  11. Tape it off with fine line tape it bends nicely around the curves
  12. Well I finally got a chance to get the fretboard inlaid. I used the downcut bits from Stew Mac, they cut very clean. I removed the fretboard awhile ago and sanded the neck flat and level. I got a fretboard from stew mac and the MOP stars. stars routed Stars routed Close up
  13. I was going to say that, I was at one today having a new end put on my hoses for my cutting torch and noticed some brass welding wire in a plastic tube( like the tubes for fret wire from stew mac) and it was the perfect size for side dots. I thought about this thread when I saw it.
  14. its not broken it just isnt available anymore because this thread is about 2 years old
  15. I ordered the brown for rosewood inlay filler color and epoxy from stew mac and should be here saturday so I will try it out and see.
  16. I can see where Perry is coming from, because if you let one new guy then any new guy that wants to join in has to be let in then the judges will have to sift thru all the learning experiences. NIGHTMARE!!!!! Not that I would want to enter but maybe there could be some sort of Newbie competition that someone else could set up completly seperate from this one, with a longer deadline. But I still say learning takes time and patience.
  17. Yep I am a newb also so its not time for this yet. I am doing a restore job and am picking up the tools as I go a leaning as I go. Stew Mac is making a killing off of me and everytime I order something I always forget something and then have to make another order, I dont want to make small orders so I end up adding a few more things to it. But all the tools will get used again so its just the initial investment that seems outrageous, but by the time I start the next build I will have everything I need.
  18. That is awesome. When someone makes comments like that after all the work you put into something makes it even cooler.
  19. I used a 2 part epoxy wood repair, filled the holes and redrilled them
  20. Thats the one thing about Texas though, even though we are in the same state it is so damn big that I live in the middle of Texas and its still a 5 hour drive to Dallas
  21. Wow, I might have to build myself a wicked Tele
