  1. Hello again, My current dream is to build 7 string guitar with multiscale fretboard 25.5" - 27". I confused, how can I calculate fretboard taper correctly. On normally slotted fretboard I can determine the taper if I know neck width at last fret and nut. Angled frets on multiscale are confusing me. Should I use bass or treble side of the fretboard to calculate neck width ?
  2. Have you read Brians tutorial ? http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/3dinlay1.htm It says he used some kind of vinyl under the clear acrylic.
  3. Great work. How much do those guitars weight ?
  4. Well , is there any glue out there that doesn´t cause finishing problems ?
  5. forget about what I said about painting pickguard black. It looks good as it is now. Good job
  6. Side dots are now installed. I had slight mishap there due my incorrect tooling. The drill bit I used was making holes too tight. So I decided to enlarge holes by wiggling drill bit around. Of course I snapped off tip of the bit in one of the holes. I was lucky cause the broken tip was 2mm below the surface so I just inlayed dot material in like usual.
  7. Got into carving the neck profile. I felt that bubinga veneer between scarf was giving me ugly look so i carved the volute like this.
  8. Too late to fill the pores. After I took that photo, I installed frets in. Any case that´s a good idea. Maybe i´ll use it in future project.
  9. Allrighty, show must go on Finished fretboard without frets. Sanded up to 6000-8000 grit ( I can´t remember which one) with micromesh pads. I came into conclusion that it worthless to go up any furher cause there will be open pores no matter how hard I sand. I had few problems when drilling holes for dot markers. i accidentally drilled few holes too deep so had to fill them up with super glue and wood shavings.
  10. @Prostheta I know it´s frustrating to sit there watching other peoples projects while you can´t do nothing. Hopefully you get new workshop running soon, so we can watch your projects again. There´s also www.muusikoiden.net , a general music forum is finland. That´s where most of the local guitarbuilders are. If your wife can help you to sign ,maybe you can ask questions there. I don´t think anyone does mind if you make a question or two in english.
  11. Few suppliers here. Basic woods available maple, mahogany, wenge, etc,....Instrument builders sell fretboards. If you want fancy figure i suggest imports....I´m busy right now as we speak so I don´t have much time for blabbering. http://www.fiskarslaatupuu.fi/fi/ http://www.korpi-instruments.com/tuotteet.html http://www.soitinrakentajatamf.fi)/ http://www.thermotimber.fi)/ http://www.puukeskus.fi)/ http://www.dlh-finland.fi/ http://www.op-puu.fi/ http://www.guitarshop.fi/
  12. I never understood that tape thing. Are you suppose leave it or remove it. if you take it off , glue will spread right there where the tape was after you clamp fretboard. I just use seran wrap to cover truss rod. Dont have to think complicated tape things.
  13. another xplorer style guitar. i started this before the one with bubinga. Not too happy about workmanship. i`m doing whats left there to be done and make it playable. i`m not wasting huge money on this one.
  14. To me this sounds like you´re whining at people at PG that you dont have enough money in your wallet. This is not the first time you ask a question how can you come up cheap fretboard without any money. I seriously think that noone is going jump into that calculating thing as deep as you are. when it comes to shipping costs. So you should know the best what is best option for you. Good alternative for building guitars is NOT to build them. saves money, keeps your lungs in good condition , saves the trees, etc...
  15. Best option in the longrun is that you build slotting jig using LMI/stewmac templates and make fretboards yourself. Having cheap fretboard alone doesn`t get you anywhere. You still have to order parts from different suppliers and pay shipping fees.
  16. I dont have any ticket to that festival. It´s pretty much useless to start searching tickets as they are mostly sold out. Especially that day Megadeth is performing. If you can keep security guards busy I could try climbing over the fence. Yea, that fretboard looked like it was enough for 2 fretboards but sadly it wasn´t. Taper is now cut and fretboard´s glued to the neck. I want to make bit more progress until i post some pics.
  17. Despite the nah sayers i´m building my explo with 24 fret neck, just to see does it look bad or not.
  18. He is suggesting that you cut fretboard in two pieces at 22 fret and then join the pieces back together.
  19. Probably that pickguard would suit better if you painted it black.
  20. Sorry for interrupt. What setup did use gluing up body wings ?
  21. yay, school projects are fun to watch. it´s almost always a question whether you make it or not until the deadline. I built fretslotting miter box as school project and i almost went nuts cause project was bit more than i could handle. but i did it eventually. good luck to your project.
  22. I dont know what´s your playing style, but. Why would anyone want to add frets on a classical guitar ? Without cutaway frets are pretty much useless beyond 15 th fret. Sure it´s doable in some way but is it really worth it.
