  1. The slot for G string in the nut might be too tight.
  2. I cutted headstock angle in my Les Paul with table saw. I didn´t make jigs of anykind. Just clamped some piece of wood as a guide. I´ve done also few practise cuts with japanese saw but the results weren´t so good.
  3. Good point Wes. I didnt think that guitar would become nose diving if i´d remove some wood. only thing I thought about was, will all the electronics and switches fit in after thinning guitar body. The original idea was to make a les paul less heavy by thinning it. Badly tittled topic and I´m sorry for that. Drilling some holes from the back and gluing some kind of cap seems pretty cool idea. It would probably look nice with transparent finish, but the amount of work and money doing it doesn´t get me intrested.
  4. After I glued maple top on les paul I´m building i noticed it´s kind a heavy. Drilling any weight relief holes didn´t come into my mind until now. But it´s too late for that. Top is uncarved...yet. So I still have a chance to push body through planer. Body is about 58mm thick, top 18mm and mahogany 40mm thick. Neck pocket is about 38mm deep. I was thinking that I could take 10 mm off from the bottom. Would that be too much ?
  5. I´ve bolted on a handle in the neck pocket to prevent the paint going in there. Doesn´t really answer to your question but there is really no need to paint the neck pocket.
  6. I have some left over pieces of alder from body blank. I could give the blocks for you for free, but I really haven´t ever sent any package to anyone.
  7. I don't fully agree with Melvyn about Leo being total genius. All what Fender did was finding cheap and easy way to do things. At least on me it wont leave impression that he was great guitar builder with lots of skil.
  8. Cutting body shape isn´t that hard. You can do the job with band saw very quick and easy. It doesn´t matter is guitar left handed or not. In fact i cant even imagine any easier than cutting V- style body.
  9. I have a question for those who have actually built one piece neck. Did you use one or 2-way action truss rod ?
  10. Yeah it´s good to read how to tutorials and stuff. It´s also good to know what not to do when building. Since you can basically ruin the whole thing in each and every step. And try to be realistic about your skills. Don´t let yourself think that you can pull something at first try without practicing first.
  11. Mikro, thanks for the answer, i´ll try that shellac with nitro and see how things turn out.
  12. Go and get a book, is translated in english as a trade secret. Well, id like steal the topic and ask does nitrolacquer fit with any of those oils. (danish, linseed, shellac.) I´m just tryin to archieve 70`s vintage finish.
  13. I think you should ask your friend which way is easier for him.
  14. I have Hs-3 pickups in my strat so I think i might be able to answer on this one. You gotta use humbucking series switching if you want to get tone without hum. I think you gotta change your pickups if you want fatter sound, cause those HS-3pickups are so weak powered even used with humbucker series switching.
  15. Well, I have this mex strat with maple neck which needs a fretjob. I think I´m able to put new frets in and level fret tops. But, I haven´t found any solution to file fret ends without harming lacquer. Any ideas ?
  16. Do you mean this ? http://www.ranguitars.com/obrazek.php?b=19
  17. Ive heard that Ritchie Blackmore used to glue his strat necks. But maybe it´s just another one of those guitar related myths.
  18. Speaking about acrylic guitars... It reminds me about this http://www.freewebs.com/marklaar/stratokopio.htm
  19. it´s very common to have space in the corners if you are trying attach strat neck in tele neck pocket.
  20. Naa . I don´t participate. Too much handy power tools. A Desert island. haha.
  21. It would be a miracle if that guitar plays in tune. Fret slots are so much off.
  22. I don´t have those fretpresses what stewmac offers but I´have glue clamps. I've already used them with piece of woodenradiusblock to seat frets in. But next neck is going to be with compoundradius and I´m simply out of radiusblocks. Maybe I´ll just try put the frets in with simple clue clamp, pressing the frets from several spots. If i´d be using hammer I´d had to hit each fret at least 3 times. So is cluingclamps much worse option ? sorry about bad english..
  23. The idea is to make angledneck and place bonenut in front of floydnut. At least this should solve the problem of making shelfcut for floyd and I wouldn´t have any worries does fretboard radius match with nut. What do you think ? Stupid idea ?

  25. You don´t need any ugly attachable devices with this. http://www.carvinmuseum.com/images/yearbyy..._v220-large.jpg
