  1. heh... the V looks like a carbon copy of a bernie rico jr vixen... edit: saw the mention of the vixen in your original post just now, in that case, good job
  2. only thing that looks off to me is the upper horn, it doesn't match the lower horn visually...
  3. OH MY GOD YOUR RIGHT!!! what was I thinking no but really ive been wanting to give it a try for some time should turn out well, neck pickups rule.
  4. i really dig your take on the superstrat shape matt, very original, and very awesome looking. after going to roberto-venn, i've noticed some people don't have the whole design thing, and the flow thing, down, but you're not one of those people.
  5. i just feel, on a tele, the ash tray or no ring at all is the way to go... just preference i guess.
  6. my concern is how much distance is there between the tip of the lower horn and the neck? it looks close, and i know first hand that it will be a pain to play(almost literally) if the horn is too close.
  7. yeah i was using a 5 way strat style toggle, i actually wound up buying 3(one was oem fender, 2 others from guitarpartsdepot), and i picked the shortest one...
  8. how deep is the body going to be? its going to be hard to squeeze a toggle switch in if its not deep enough. i ran across that issue on my last built, i had to make the cavity cover buldge out some.
  9. i like the inlay idea, but it seems confusing because theres something on pretty much every fret...if you're one who relies on looking at the board(luckily i'm not), itd take some getting used to
  10. strat style neck pocket works perfectly fine for a set neck. friend of mine had an old jackson pro series, from the early 90s, that was strat style neck pocket, but glued in, it was quite awesome, and the guitar withstood the test of time. i think you'll need a really tight fit on the pocket, but it'll work.
  11. come on up to dallas and play my "uncomfortable" looking guitars(key word there is looking), and you'll see, a lot of time and planning went into making them comfortable.
  12. do you have a bent truss rod to fit that crooked channel?
  13. draw it full scale, and finalize the design. paint sketches won't get you very far when it comes down to it.
  14. +1 i like it, i like what you did on the cutout on the waist that would normally dig into your chest, looks like itd still be comfy to play.
  15. are you putting a contour or bevel or something around the edges of the RG body? or is it a carve top? hard to tell, not sure what i'm seeing in the body. i've built 2 7 strings now, but both were neck through's, and i went for my own original designs on each one. they were also both tune-o-matic, pretty different i think from yours.
  16. imo, Rhoads V's are meant to be 6 in line. the body shape doesn't lend itself well to 3+3, again, imo.
  17. i personally would have used the darker wood for the back, but thats just me.
  18. i like your string retainer block, though i personally would drill some wider holes just deep enough for the ball end to fit in, so they don't stick out. nice execution on this project, i like the end results. the pickguard rules.
  19. assuming, since this is a bass, you're not using a switch, which means your likely running the 2 pickups together in parallel, and the way parallel works, the current is going to pick the path of least resistance. so when you have one pickup all the way up and the other not all the way up, its going to pick the all the way up for the most part. it will not be a very linear change, its going to be very noticeable.
  20. Yes, I thought of that too. Beech is used for necks pretty often here, in Europe. But it is very unstable. Chances that the neck will warp ar elike 80%. In other words, I don't have access to well prepared steam dried, aged and stabilized beech. Just the timber they are using for rough construction beams. when i worked at a furniture factory, one of the woods they'd use was beech, and that was some of the most warpy crap ever.
