  1. scab are you from sevenstring.org? i also agree that cutting the wings off is the best idea... if you can't salvage the neck blank at all, then cut into it and try and salvage the wings...
  2. Nope, same size. Think about it, why would Ibanez retool for a completely new body shape when they could just take their existing shape and change the routing? The screw holes in the 7-string neck I bought even line up with the holes on the 6-string body. I've sprayed a few coats of shellac over the past two days. I just wanted to seal up the body and provide a nice base for whatever type of paint ends up going to top of it. I don't know if this is true of all spraycan shellac, but the particular stuff I bought ("Bullseye" brand) sprayed like crap. Runs, poor coverage, and tons of orange peel. I changed out the supplied conical tip for a vertical fan tip and I started warming the cans. That helped a little, but it's still going to take some work to level this stuff. It's not a disaster or anything... just a little aggravating. Anyway, I'm starting to think about refinishing this guitar now instead of waiting for the testfit. The reason is that it's taking forever to order my bridge from ETS... I doubt I'll have it before the second week of January. I don't know what to do about the finish, though. The color I want isn't available in regular (i.e. Duplicolor) spray cans. I could get an aerosol can mixed from a touchup company for about $30, or I could buy a spray gun and get the paint by itself, but it's still expensive. Other options would be to have a body shop or a luthier do the color and clear coats. Even if I did the color myself, I'd probably have someone else do the clear because I've only sprayed nitro before and I'd really like to use something that's more durable and cures faster. What do y'all think? urethane sprays pretty much identical to nitro, at least in my experience, i started with auto body in high school, and when i did the finishing work at roberto-venn it was like second nature... you can also clear urethane with nitro, i did that on my RG7421 refinish...
  3. Thats how I feel BUT I thought it would be cool to see what People thought of the Idea, I think its a cool idea and with something like a maple fret board !!METAL MATT!! i agree, itd work well on maple, i think one of the reasons itd work well is because you generally put a finish on the maple anyways, so yeah, thatd be worth a try i think.
  4. http://www.elysian-online.com/Sigma7Pics/Sigma7Pics4.jpg you can see what i mean there, i'm not a fan of the offset style like the esp SV, i prefer it to be the same on both sides, but i think a pickup ring wouldn't be an issue, but i'm more a fan of direct mounts, i feel it looks neater...
  5. i wouldn't, don't cover up that beautiful wood...
  6. if i were building it, i would have made the wings start between the 23rd and 24th fret, its so much more comfortable to not have neck heel or wings in the way on V's... but its a nice guitar, looks like you did some really great work, good job.
  7. man i'd love to have that top on the V i built, flip it the opposite way, itd look plain badass
  8. They're just not tightened down so they're loose and don't look straight. i wasn't referring to how straight they were, they look like they are on the wrong side...
  9. are those normal tuners in a reverse headstock? they look way off....
  10. killer job man, like it better than any ibanez s i've ever seen, gotta love the neck single... are you gonna do anything like have the middle position coil tapping the bridge pickup and combined with the neck to make a big humbucker?
  11. the holes for the tuners look like the middle 2 strings would touch the other tuners on their way to the top 2 tuners...
  12. that red one i think is cool, but maybe this one would be another option? i think these are incredibly cool, though might not be your style
  13. is the first one intonated? looks like itd be out, judging by the position of the saddles... nice looking either way, they both rule.
  14. i don't want to do copies man i'm getting bored, i drew in the frets and colored the fretboard lol, i wish i had tools!
  15. yeah i made the upper horn a bit longer than usual for balance, 7's like to get neck heavy, and the strap button would be on the back of the horn, not the side like normal, so itd have to be a little further back than normal
  16. thats pretty cool, and i was thinking the same, cause i was looking at the 1st pic with the headstock but with no real details like pickups and ofr7, and because of the angle i took the pic at, it kind of is distorted so it looks a little like that, and i thought it looked kind of cool
  17. new pic of the drawing, added the headstock, its a 2+5, detailed the carve a bit
  18. I never play in the "rock" position... classical keeps the guitar much more stable so when your doing things like string skipping it's much easier to be accurate... at least for me. Rhoads v's to me are the ultimate in comfortable guitars, they balance incredibly well on a strap , they are great for sitting playing, and they just look badass. and hey, if Randy could play Goodbye to Romance with one, its plenty good enough for ballads lol
  19. Rhoads V's are incredibly comfy to play sitting down, as they force you to play in the classical position.
  20. i love the neck heel, pure class, i bet its comfy as all hell...
  21. can't say i'm a fan, but if its your thing, right on, i know theres definately a market for guitars like this...
