  1. if you are getting a new card external jobbie.. if it does more than 2 simulteanous channels, get firewire, or usb2. usb1 wont handle it very well, that is if it is full duplex. as far as any setup goes, apparently centrinos are the best processor to use for audio work. alot of ppl on kvr think so. wont go wrong with tft, much much better! ram is important, lol! must get me some more. i wouldnt say 1GB is the minimum. i have made good recordings with 256 ram. its just good to have more. Mike
  2. i am reasonably sure they are in the same pos as the orig!
  3. thanks for the feedback. the shape is rough. the pickups have been routed. i think they are neat, especially for somewhere that isnt even seen!! my client is very happy with it as it stands, and he is a perfectionist. i would understand if it was the neck pocket or the trem routes! Mike PS i will be building templates after i get template bits. so the cad of that would be cool! i have turbo cad 2d v6.5 i think.
  4. well, i have started building this RG 7 copy for a client. this has been a joint effort between dad and i atm, basically sharing the work to make it build faster! at the moment i am awaiting parts, however i have done what i could. routed the cavities and roughed the body out. have a goosie! what do you think? final specs: santos rosewood f.board lic floyd rose 7 mahogany (sepele) neck double truss jumbo frets abalone inlays paf pro7 invader7 (i think!!) grover tuners ash body (its semi flamed) 24 frets 16" radius thats about it! just waiting for parts, ordered today. hopefully they will be in soon! cya! Mike
  5. dimeslime all the way!!
  6. thanks for the info goreki - i need better midi sounds! i think i will see this ua25 on the 3rd feb guess what time of year it is, hehe!
  7. i would seriously review getting the m-audio stuff after what i have read (well about the quattro, and firewire 410) the usb 1.1 sockets m-audio uses cannot handle separate tracks at once, and bottlenecks. the drivers for m-audio are woeful as far as i have read. i wont be spending money on them... ever, lol! edirol will be taking my money, as i have read that they are fantastic interfaces. out of interest, will my next interface - the UA25 (link in my post above) replace my nasty AC97 codec? because the midi is terrible on it! Mike
  8. i am going to be recording much more extensively soon, at uni next year - will study music or music technology, i just love recording. i just got a laptop for this, a 1.7GHz centrino Toshiba Satellite i think. 512ram 60gb disk, and in a few weeks i will by buying somehting like the edirol ua25 usb interface. http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ua25.html it seems very good. i have read many things about the m-audio quattro and firewire 410 cards, 14 pages of people saying the quattro is cr4p put me off it! anyone used edirol? i have heard that centrino's are good for recording for some reason or other, cant remember why! i will let you know how the recording goes with the new interface if you are interested. it will be 1st week in feb tho! birthday on the 3rd well, cyas later! Mike
  9. after reading brians tut i think i have too straight a neck on my guitars, lol! thanks for the help! btw i found that when i have a guitar in Eb with 008's on i get a lower action than with it in E - *thinks about a tuning change, lol!* Mike
  10. superb job dave, really fantastic! got my vote, without a doubt, stunnah!!! rock on dude!
  11. how do you set the neck relief to get the lowest possible action? my necks are virtually relief free, and the action is okay. (a high fret or 2 ruins one guitar, must look at it soon) and the other guitar is great but i think it has more potential. so, should i adjust the truss to give me more relief? if so how much? also any tips to squeeze the absolute most out of action and setup? thanks Mike
  12. hey, ill try the reverb and changing the kick when i get back to school, meantime ill get the guitars sorted. yeah, it does sound muffled - more mids here i come! thanks guys! Mike
  13. i was about to reccommend the same site! i can get the GHS's in belfast allright. well, the last time i was in they were there! i wanna get a set of 10 - 60's and stick em on my gibbo kit! that would be cool! Mike EDIT: Im seriously thinking about buying one when i have money! Build myself a guitar from the parts.
  14. feylya, about those strings - why dont you get a set of GHS zakk wayle 10 - 60 boomers, and buy some inbetween string which is available rather than buying a 10 - 50 set and looking for the bass string? just a thought. oh. btw, how does that guitar play, you linked me to it before, but now that you have one, are you satisfied? are the parts good - i may get one and use it as a parts source, if they are good. i didnt have any sanders when i did my ex-ibanez's whole neck or my 31 fret neck - i made guides from radiused bits of pine. okay, it worked great, my scallops are extremely neat on the 31 fret, but it took 16+ hours :S boy did i feel poor after that! hands hurt like hell for ages! anyway, i think you should scallop more. to test for myself i did the top 6 frets to see how it played, i liked it so i did em all, strangely i am back to normal necks, but i still like the scallops, so i switch between my guitars! Mike
  15. cool, yeah, i think the kick is slightly high. the guitar parts are being re-recorded which will solve those probs, and the first solo may be the one you are referring as unsure, well, it was, lol! smitty wants to retake this. lol, there is no bass guitar on that yet! hehe. Mike thanks for the input
  16. ok, got the drums recorded. feel free to comment on this, i know the timing is a little sloppy, but i will re-record the rhythm guitars soon. this was recorded on my randy rhoades V solo 1 is smitty, solo 2 is me. drum mic setup: sennheiser in the kick drum 3" off the face, just beneath the beater audio technica kit mics on the snare and 2 toms. electret mic on the hi-hat (was micing a 2nd snare, but this wasnt used, and it picked the hihats up well) 2 studio vocal mics for overheads if this is being re-recorded we will be using a deeper snare, i wont bust my stand, 3 toms next time, spot mic the hihats and ride cymbal i think i need more stereo separation, but im not sure, the overheads were the worst thing to try and balence!! http://fullservesite.com/fadingblind/dark_skies_2.mp3 i know that the drums are too loud in this mix, but it isnt finished yet, so i will ammend this at a later date! any critisism would be cool. and yes, no vocals as yet as i havent found a good singer yet! Mike
  17. oh, i do love floyds lots! i opt for the 42mm nut - seems pretty nice for me, but i think i can get close to floyds with wilkinsons, considering i dont vai the trem too much, just dips etc... but occasionally i just love messing with a floyd till i get sore - the strings rarely break on me
  18. dave, thats an awesome machine! i think i have found my balance for guitars now, and so im not totally for floyds - the only thing id change on that guitar! i prefer the 2 1/16" string spacing of a wilkinson to the 2 1/8" of the floyd. thats the *only8 change id make, otherwise that thing is AWESOME!!!
  19. id answer with a hell yeah!! definately do it! and tell us more!
  20. good stuff! looks like nice wood! heavy? looks quite thick. hope you enjoy building it! Mike
  21. i have taken to 2 tones, with separate switches for bypassing both, alongside the normal switch. i also have coil taps in the RR V of mine, but these switches arent mounted externally. 2 tone, 2 switches, selector, guess that makes me a 5 controls person! Mike
