Curtis P
I can machine my own inserts at school, but i didnt know if it would be easier to buy them (I would just stick them on the lathe, drill a hole in the center, tap it for the bolt and glue them into the neck) Edit I have been thinking of what i will get done tommorow, the routing (i have everything set up, just need to attack it with the router, lol) after i get the routing done, i am going to drill for the jack, then start finishing sanding, and go to 300 tommorow, then bring in my own paper and go to 1000 thursday, and then on friday apply my finish and friday night apply my clear friday while i am waiting for finish to dry, i will be routing the T rod and attaching F board and finish sanding the neck, will be applying finish and clear to neck on saturday, then saturday ngiht after i get home from my BMX trip, I will do the wet sanding and final clears Sunday, i shall be wiring and testing, monday i shall be attaching neck, monday ngiht i shall be playing lol Curtis

Duff Beer Man
Cool man, looking good. What are you going to do for a finish? Also is that poplar as the body?
Curtis P
its basswood, slighty spalted, i am doing a green finish (was going to be stained to show grain, but i think i am going to do an acutal green now) Curtis
guitman32
Nice work on the routing. Making your own ferrules sounds like a sweet idea. I dont know if you need to tap them, just drill a hole a little bigger than your neck screws. If you do that, make sure to take some pics!! RGGR
Nice work on the routing. CudBucket
Looks like the neck doesn't fit because he hasn't rounded the end yet. That's all.
guitman32
I share cudbuckets thoughts...its looks like with a little finessing the neck should fit snug. Curtis, were you using a template for the pup routs?
Curtis P
yes, but the template wasnt perfect i found, so i am cleaning them up with a dremel Curtis
Kyle Cavanaugh
you don't need to thread them, they're basically washers with an incline drilled in them!

egdeltar
Is it just me or is that neck thick as a log?
jay5
Yeah it does look thick. Is that the final carve?
Curtis P
it must be the angle, the neck feels just like my washburn strat copy Curtis
Duff Beer Man
Well remember to compensate for the thinkness of paint and clear coat, i know it doesnt seem like much, but every little bit counts. My explorer neck felt perfect to me, then primer, paint and clear later and its one of the biggest necks ive played, everytime someone plays it i get comments on it. CudBucket
That thing is really coming together man. Good job. I just don't like the headstock. I think there is wood to be removed there. It's not sleak enough for that body.
Curtis P
thanks everyone, i might shave the neck a tad, because of that Curtis
RGGR
Defintely not your Wizard/Super Wizard style neck. Wonder what it measures. Can you give us the 12the fret and nut neasurements......
Curtis P
when you say at then nut ant 12th fret, do you mean the crown of the fret? top of the nut? or just the actual wood? Curtis
LGM Guitars
The neck looks thicker at the 4th fret than at the 7th fret. Measure the thickness of the neck on each fret, in other words, with a pair of calipers, measure from the center of the fretboard to the center of the back of the neck, that will give you the thickness. A thick neck will be 20mm at the nut, a thin neck is 17mm typically.
Curtis P
ok, thanks! Curtis
Setch
I prefer to measure 1st and 12th, rather than take any measurements at the nut. The thinnest point of the neck is usually the 1st fret, after which there is a gentle thickenning to blend into the headstock. As such a nut thickness measurement can be misleading. RGGR
Curtis - What do you have in mind for the pup cavities??? Any special reason you didn't proceed in finishing pup cavities too??? At least that's what I would have done. Edited May 31, 2005 by RGGR
