guitarchump
I finnaly have taken the time to post some pictures of my guitar while ive been working on it. Specs: The guitar has honduran mahogany sides eastern hard rock maple neck and ebony fret board. Progress: The fret board is just taped down for now, and the sides of the guitar are not attached so i can work on them easily. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06819.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06818.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06817.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06820.jpg ^ This is just a picture of the upper wing profile. If anyone has any sugesstions on what type of inlay I should do or the type of bridge is hould use that would be great.I was thinking about doing some runic writting on the fretboard in pearl or something to that effect. And maybe using a TOM bridge string thru. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff
TeiscosRock
I like the body shape a lot. Reminds me of the BC Rich Wave.
guitarchump
The lack of comments is mildly amusing
whitey
yeah...cause it sucks... cause youve stolen everybody's vision of a metal and radical design and somehow kept it tastefull and ergonomical and asthetically pleasing to the eye... in other words thats a great build man its probably just me and my ''bass eyes'' but that would look killer as a bass good job,its killer
Ben
I like it a lot. I agree with what whitey said, it looks comfortable and practical, which isnt usually the case with more pointy body shapes. Keep us upadated!

!!METAL MATT!!
It looks like it will be A deadly axe when shes done!! this thing would look wicked in a dark gun metal gray Have fun with it man And with the inlay I think that A nice Barbwire inlay would be mean and yet clean looking and for A bridge I say that you should go with A nice Black Hipshot or TOM String thru combo on a side note man I would take out some wood on the lower horn for fret access and looks, to me it looks to bulky in there !!METAL MATT!! Nitefly SA
it looks cool reminds me of a violin matt, what the hell is your avatar?
redwhiteandthemaple
I'm not a fan of BCish guitars, but it's a nice blend with traditional double cutaways and the 'pointy' concept For some reason I keep thinking it's a 7stringer. I second the dark gun metal. It'll look nice. I was thinking reversed shark fins/teeth for the inlays. Just a suggestion. Oh question, just wondering where the strap buttons gonna be? And keep up the good work! matt, what the hell is your avatar? I can see the woman and the blade? but what happens after??
!!METAL MATT!!
It does look like A 7-string!! I can see the woman and the blade? but what happens after?? Its eye SPLITING, Im not sure if im keeping it !!METAL MATT!!
guitarchump
Just to clear somethings up, the lower horn will have a deep bevel on it but i havent gotten around to carving it out yet. The upper horn may as well but i havent decided if that will look weird or not. As for the fretboard, I got this one from stewmac because finding good ebony in calgary is kinda difficult. So there is about an inch of excess ebony on the end of the fret board. I was thinking of carving out a cool design out of the end bit. If this guitar turns out well i have enough wood lying around to turn out a 7 string in no time! Which was my first plan haha. I like the dark gun metal idea but i have very low selection of paint seeing as i will be doing it all by spray can, so if any one from canada knows where i can get some gun metal paint or knows someone who can lay down the colour for me ( i will pay for the service) that would be great. I have no idea where the strap buttons are going to go! I realized this after I cut out the design! But I was looking at some flying V's and i may just but it on the back or something. Ill fiqure that out once i have it all ready for setup and i can play with where they fit best. And for the inlay i think barbwire is a good idea but a bit to cliche. What do you think about old norse runes as fretmarkers or just a saying on the 12th fret? Also i got some white binding for the headstock and neck... do you guys think i should use it ?? Thanks alot for the replys! If METALMATT approves i think im doing somthing right haha. Edited April 11, 2006 by guitarchump
Nitefly SA
i'd say 86 the binding, but then again i hate binding.
redwhiteandthemaple
Checkout Canadian Tires automotive section.. They have some good colors in regular size aerosols. A bit expensive, but better than having to regret later on.. I think I've seen some metal-[insert color here] in Motomaster or DupliColor.. or check your nearest automotive store, they can be very helpful. I think you should stick to no-binding. guitarchump
Thx yea i was thinking of pittching the binding idea ( meh it cost me like 4 bucks big woop haha). My friend just finnished off paining his guitar with the auto paints from Canadian tire the result was ok but nothing spectacular. But its worth a shot if i cant find an auto shop to do it for me or a student down at SAIT or ACAD ( alberta college of art and design) to paint it. guitarchump
~LARGE UPDATE~ Sorry it has been a while but i have got caught up in a two projects now haha. Ok so I had an explorer i built lying around un-finished, this was because the neck was a total mess and way to narrow some how at the heel. so i decided one day hey lets add a set neck into this thing. So i did that and was happy with how it turned out. Later that day i was down at the good old hardwood store and had a crazy idea. A SEMI HOLLOW EXPLORER..... So i picked up some nice cedar and cherry that i found for a good price and ran home. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06976.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06975.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06974.jpg so after slowing down on the progress of the explorer, last night i picked up the other guitar and decided i would use a recessed TOM bridge and i slapped the wings on to the neck of the guitar. I let it glue over night and this morning i began to carve the heel, as well as finding out where the strap buttons were finally going to go. Hurray for victoria day or what ever this holiday is today haha. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06967.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06973.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06972.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06971.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06970.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/thrash/DSC06969.jpg Should I start a separate thread for the hollow body explorer?? Inisheer
Nice guitar! And I'm lovin' the hollow explorer......never saw anything like that! Decide how you're going to paint it?
guitarchump
well im thinking black for the neck-thru, i think it will suit the shape, as well i have never owned a black guitar HAHA. For the explorer the cedar will be stained red with black grain filler, the cherry left natural and the back and sides black with a black burst over the edges. I am still open to sugestions on both!
