ElysianGuitars
this is my first post, my name is Adam, i live in Plano, TX(about 15 minutes from dallas), and i went to Roberto-Venn for the spring class this year... built 4 guitars while i was there, 3 electrics and 1 acoustic... heres my first guitar, a prs style set neck, swamp ash body, myrtle top(i picked it for the look of the grain, no other reason, well and it was like 10 bucks lol), maple neck, ebony board... i basically took the lower half of a strat, made it pointy, added the cutouts, and made it symmetrical. i'm really pleased with how it came out, i wanted to do something "extreme" but not painful, which i definately achieved with the contouring i did on the back. i'll start with the final product since i know i only get 1 pic per post lol heres the body blank, carved a bit http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1557.JPG http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1558.JPG http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1559.JPG http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1561.JPG me with the guitar and rough neck, i weighed a lot more back then, about 220 or so, i'm at 195 now, so looking at this pic always makes me laugh lol http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1593.JPG neck blank, little burn on there, with the finish on the neck being black i didn't really worry much about that... http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1597.JPG http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1598.JPG http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1600.JPG i got this idea from the petrucci ibanez's, and because i didn't design the guitar very well and my hand would hit off the horn, this alleviated it most of the way, but someone else might have an issue, if i ever build this thing again i will most definately address that http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1601.JPG a little bit of mock up, you can see the knot in the top fell right under the pickup, and the grain lines really work well with the body shape http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/100_1612.JPG here it is right after i sprayed color on it http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/GuitarPicsColor001.jpg http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/GuitarPicsColor002.jpg http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/GuitarPicsColor003.jpg http://elysian-online.com/GuitarPics/GuitarPicsColor004.jpg and thats about it for that one edit: ahh auto merge double post, guess i'll post the acoustic after someone responds Edited October 28, 2006 by ElysianGuitars
Jon
Amazing job, Adam! Looks kind of comfortable to play in the classical position. Very professional looking finish too! Oh, and nevermore dominates.
ElysianGuitars
thanks, i don't know that itd be too comfortable to play in the classical position, as i didn't bother contouring the cutout on the tail end, its very comfortably to play in the typical sit down strat style guitar position though. and i see you're in fort worth, had a guy from my class who was from fort worth, but he moved to austin to work at collings heres some pics of my acoustic, its an OM body style, mahogany neck, ebony board, bubinga back and sides, sitka spruce top, x braced, ebony bridge, ebony/maple binding, with black/white/black purfling on top and back good shot, shows my headstock pretty well http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic1.jpg good top shot, ebony bridge pins with abalone dots http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic3.jpg close up of the headstock http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic5.jpg the back http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic6.jpg another angle of the back http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic7.jpg the neck http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic8.jpg the tail end http://elysian-online.com/StudentAcoustic/...ntAcoustic9.jpg heres a good shot of the inlay, warning, its big http://www.elysian-online.com/GuitarPics2/PICT6234.JPG the pickup is a B-Band under saddle transducer Edited October 28, 2006 by ElysianGuitars
Drak
I typically don't play acoustic much anymore, so I'll keep my opinions to the electric. FABULOUS!!!

ElysianGuitars
heres the 2nd electric i built, my first neck through, as well as my first 7... its got Alder wings, flamed maple neck, flamed maple top, ebony board, Dimarzio X2N7 pickup, single volume, tonepros tune-o-matic, gotoh tuners i don't have any in progress pics of this one unfortunately, but this one is my main guitar, i scalloped it 12-24, i used dunlop 6100 fretwire on it, as well as my 6 and my acoustic. i also countersunk the straplocks, heres a shot of that http://elysian-online.com/RecessedStraplocks2.jpg http://elysian-online.com/RecessedStraplocks1.jpg this one has the same kind of contouring as the 6er, its pretty comfortable, especially in the classical position heres a shot of the top to show how awesome the flame top looks, its hard to capture sometimes cause my camera really sucks http://elysian-online.com/TonePros7.jpg a bit dirty, but oh well lol heres the headstock, sporting my small logo, inlayed on the truss rod cover in mother of pearl http://elysian-online.com/Sigma7Pics/Sigma7Pics2.jpg
ElysianGuitars
and this is the 4th one i built... its 1/2" flamed maple top, mahogony wings with ebony strips in between the wings and neck blank, maple neck through, ebony board/head cap, dimarzio x2n7 in bridge and neck, a 3 way mini toggle(DPDT) for series/split/parallel for the neck x2n7, 3 way fender style switch, 27 frets, 7 string, with gotoh tuners... its only 1.5" thick at the thickest point. this was also my first carved top, my first plastic binding job, my first time trying stainless steel frets, and my first time slotting frets by hand(25, 26, and 27) heres the top, rough carved http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6095.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6096.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6097.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6098.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6100.JPG further in the build http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6118.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6119.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6122.JPG http://www.elysian-online.com/Mik/PICT6123.JPG heres the inlay at the 24th fret http://www.elysian-online.com/Sigma7Pics/Sigma7Pics12.jpg closer to final completion http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar/CyborgGuitar1.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar/CyborgGuitar2.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar/CyborgGuitar3.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar/CyborgGuitar.jpg strung up, but no volume pot/switches still http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar...orgsGuitar1.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar...orgsGuitar2.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/CyborgGuitar...orgsGuitar4.jpg i think thats all i got for that one edit: and i forgot i had a pic of the scallop on the 7 string V http://www.elysian-online.com/Sigma7Pics/Sigma7Pics15.jpg and heres a comparison of the superstrat to my RG7 i fixed up http://www.elysian-online.com/Sigma7Pics/Sigma7Pics14.jpg Edited October 29, 2006 by ElysianGuitars
komodo
THAT is a first-class build. Holy Cow. Really really nice. Super design and balance overall. ElysianGuitars
i also forgot to mention about the neck shape on the V... i went for an asymmetrical design, meaning the thickest part is roughly under the A string, and the thinnest is under the treble strings, it really works great, and i can't go back to playing a regular symmetrical based 7 string neck, its uncomfortable now... hell even a symmetrical 6 neck feels uncomfortable to me

Andy
I'm a lurker over at 7string.org and I've seen your stuff, its really great, especially that V, its one of the few that I've liked. Do you get your wood locally? I've just moved to the DFW area and I'm looking for somewhere to buy wood from.
thegarehanman
You do clean work, I like it. I thought you might be interested in knowing that dunlop makes a line of straplocks that are designed specifically for recessing. They're much narrower than a traditional straplock and have a small lip that covers the edge of the hole you drill for them. peace, russ

sexybeast
Really nice designs and execution. I gotta tell you guys, I used to really hate the "metal" guitar shapes, but people around here have really done some creative, excellent work. In fact, the next guitar on my drawing board is a Rico Jr. Vixen type unit. Keep up the good work, man.
