Pictures of the next bass

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well, here's the patterns for the neckthru 5 string I'm starting next.

I'll be using walnut for the back body, flamed maple for the top, and a combination of birds eye maple and walnut and curly maple for the neckthru.

Please tell me what you think good or bad. I haven't done a neck thru yet. so feel free to pick on me like I was the milkman's kid.

This is the wood I'm using for the top. I'm not sure if I going to carriburst it or not.

This is the birdseye I want to use for the neck and the fretboard.

Thanks for the kind words. I love single cut basses too! I'm kinda going for a cross between a benevente and a bolin ns bass. Well I got all the pieces cut and ready for the planer tommorow.

Here's a picture of the pieces, and a guest appearence by my cat Smoker Joe. B)

Check out the eyes in the fretboard

I kinda got lucky finding that wood at the sawmill.

and here's another picture of the top before bookmatching.

I'm gonna take pictures throughout the whole process, in case I do the finish in carriburst (tutorial)

I can keep posting them if you guys want to see em.

Otherwise I'll just wait for end to post em. :D

Sorry wes, :D didn't mean to step on any ...toes. B)

Anyway, I finally got to the cabinet shop to plane my pieces.

While I was there the shop forman said he had a peice of exotic wood I'd like.

So he ended up giving me a 7 foot peice of figured 4/4 bubinga. :D:D

I don't think he even knew what it was. So now I've got a jump on my next project. Well, here's some more pics.

The first is the bookmatched top ready for the saw.

Next is the back and neck back peices.

And finally the laminated neck, and fretboard.

Hi again, :D

I made a little progress on the fretboard. It took a little while to measure and cut the slots for the frets. I cut it for 35.25" and 28 frets. I'm not worried about having room for a neck pickup because I'll be putting an optical bridge pickup on this bass.

Anyway, here's a picture of the slotted fretboard.

I'm waiting on stewmac for the truss rod so I can shape the neck. I want it at least roughly shaped before I join it to the body. Hopefully it will get here early next week.

wassa optical pickup??

lasers are fitted into bridge saddles, and they track the movement of the string's shadow, whihc they turn into electrical current.

this means ore accurate response, no pikcpu magent pull = more sustain, and more versatility when you shape it with the active EQ.

now was any of that right? :D

i'm tired now, so i just *might* be writing nonsense. though i think i'm right.

we migfht be thinking of two produtcs, but i'm pretty sure the one isaw had proper lasers, that tracked the shadow. because IR tracks actual movement.

and i dont think you can get these under $400.... considering its built into the bridge

Could be. I'm only familiar with the lightwave... and photon systems, both IR, IIRC :D.
