kkooss16 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Nice find! i just had to pay a small fortune to get a a good piece of sapele Quote
westhemann Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Looks like there are a few dozen pieces of that quality there. Quote
Mattia Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Indeed...why not buy the whole board, eh? My local yard actually still has a few boards like that - wide enough for 1-piece blanks ribbon, dead on quartered. I got a few I'll mostly be converting to neck stock (largely done) and back/side sets for acoustics, though, because I find most sapele is crazy heavy for electrics. Lots of variability there as well, though.. Quote
Quarter Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Thats a great looking chunk of sapelli, but I'll see your ribbon figure and raise you some pomelle ... I was lucky to find this chunk for a couple cool lap steel builds in the que. . Quote
ScottR Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Not sapele, but who'd care to hazard a guess as to what it is? SR Quote
westhemann Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Looks like quilted mahogany,of all things. Quote

Helldunkel Posted December 19, 2010 Author Report Posted December 19, 2010 This game sucks This type of wood is not known for having any figure. SR It could be basswood, I have already seen basswood with similar looks, not sure that it suits neck construction... Or it could be some ''quilt ScottR'' which is a new specie from the project guitar family? Must check the wood encyclopedia 2011 Quote
ScottR Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Another hint is that it is considerably harder than anything mentioned so far. SR Quote
ScottR Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Not bad, but it's from Central and South America. SR Quote
