Input Jack Hum

Or, as the hum dies when he's touching the jack, he is missing the ground wire to/from the bridge

I agree with Prostheta, though Peter's suggestion is also totally likely. Another possibility is a cold ground joint (though that might produce hum at all times, unless you are actually grounded). I've done both and both cause hum that tends to go away when you touch it.

Sounds like that isn't the problem then. If you have a continuity meter, I would double check that thoughby popping a lead into your guitar and checking for continuity between the earth sleeve on the far end of the jack and bridge/strings. That should check two problems with one stone. Or is that kill two birds with one continuity test? :D
