He has seen it used by another customer and the look is supposed to be fantastic. Like an explosion as you see in the pic ooten hosted. Oh and Bowser is right the DBK Fretboard inlays are plastic not real screws. I kinda linked the idea of having that industrial look with the 5150 though... The reason I went with Basswood is simple. Wood generally in Aus is expensive. We dont have anywhere near the resources of the UK or USA. Nor do we really have the choice. So it was a financial decision... Basswood is still relatively cheap to buy here

Hey all well I have 2 new projects on the go. I recently got a load of wood from Gilet guitars and here is what i have planned... I've always wanted a 5150 replica so one lot of the wood is going to that. I was going to use the Jem fretboard on that but am not sure if it would look odd. The other one I have no idea what to do with... specs are as follows.. 2x Basswood Body Blanks. 2x Flamed maple neck blanks. 2x Ebony fretboads. 1x Jem7 Fretboard my bro had lying around. ( I think he got this from you jeremy??? ) Also I have this... I believe its called Myrtle and its 3A. Thats about all I know. I've never built a capped guitar before so I'm kinda running blind a bit there... ah cool i found the search button! Its roughsawn still but you can begin to see the flame through it ( sorry for the bad pics ). I was thinking of doing a drop top ala PRS style with the other but cant decide. Anyway I'm going to update this thread everytime I do something from the design up so keep checkin in. Suggestions would be more than welcome.

Fender thanks for that info the jig is great! I think I'll give the mitre idea a miss and run with the table saw. I discovered my mitre is about 3mm out on the drop of the blade at the moment because its usually used for heavy work. I'm assuming its just running out due to that. But not worth the risk. Thanks again all!

Ok has anyone ever tried to cut a scarf joint using a compound mitre saw? I thought it may be ok given that I've seen table saws used to cut the scarf joint. But thought I'd probably best check here first. I guess my main concern would be tear out from the blade. Any suggesitons before I go ahead and stuff it all up?

Jeremy definately.. Hopefully he can fit it around his work but I dont think you could find a better future mod. Setch is always a good voice of reason and experience. Perry as a builder is fantastic and again a great source of information! Lovekraft also has a great deal to offer to the forum and shows he can handle the heat and still be reasonable. Drak you should reconsider mate I think you would do a fantastic job! Bluespresence would also be great. just my 2c...

Yes I have four, Two chinese symbols, the british lion and my army number on my lower back ( by default didnt really get a choice ) They apparently do that because if you step on a land mine its the best part of your body to stay together enough to identify you by.. Nobody laugh... i actually use a little blue tack on the end of the bar. just enough to create a hold, then when i clean out the guitar I just get a needle to pick it all out. Works for me and dosent leave any sticky surfaces caused by tape

Rereading your post, you seem offended that some company would ripoff the JEM design. There have been Fender and Gibson ripoffs forever, by ACTUAL companies, even. Still are. So why not a Jem clone? Hey, for the price it might even be an ok starter guitar. ← Marksound I can see where your coming from but my point was the fact that this company can make such a clear copy of a jem and then even state JEM in its ebay listing and get away with it. Fender as we all know have caused there own problems in regards to this and now even they are trying to stop the cloners. I think its one thing to personally copy a guitar for yourself and a hobby. but come on for a company to get away with it clearly trading off anothers main guitar line... I thinkum dats a different story. And Wes is right... ( high pressure treated plywood ). Sounds fantastic!

eddiefletcher.....ever play a Fender acoustic? Did you like it? Cort makes them.......don't let a label fool you. Most guitars are made by a very few companies and have a different label put on them at the end of the line. My experience with Cort is that they are very good guitars for the money. Not a $2000 custom job by far but a great axe for the price. Just a little FYI..... ← Wow I had no idea To be honest I've bought so many of the cheaper brand guitars in my life I've never really had a good experience with them. The worst was the old fender squier strats which were awful. But thanks man I'll bear that in mind. I think the mrs has got me into "label" shopping!

Guitar bargains have been around for ages. I remember about a year ago they had a write up in a UK mag I think it was Computer Shopper or something not sure of the name but one of those mags with all the computer hardware and software reviews. I know they gave them an excellent review and I've been checking the site every now and then since. Found another one... Ibanez RGT 42 FM DR Flame Maple on mahogany body, bound neck. I have the older RGT42 With the TRS trem. Its a great guitar with my bridge aside. At least it now comes with the New Edge II. Pretty guitar.
