  1. it was modified. those charvels come with non recessed trems, and someone really sucked at trying to recess it.
  2. so what did i miss? why are you calling this "sharkfin"? great looking rough cut on the volute by the way
  3. almost there, just have to fine sand the body and finish it with the linseed oil. the action isnt too pleasing tho. hope i can get it to work, or i will have to recess the tom, all the way thru the aluminum. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...ie/DCAM0047.jpg
  4. if you were just going to spray tint it, you really diddnt need to sand the sealer off. you only need to sand the sealer off if you are going to stain it.
  5. thanks man. i love using the multi lam necks. i will use them wherever i can now. it wont look that much different with the finish on it. it will just have a slight gloss to it. i tested it on a piece from the neck blank. looks almost the same. feels great tho!
  6. i dont like listening to music when i work. i will get distracted by the music, and start thinking about the playing of the music. ever since i started playing, i dont see it as just music anymore, when i hear it, i see the guitar playing and the composition of the music. also, this can be bad because you will concentrate on the music and not on the work. just like with long repettive work. like perry stated a while back. repettive work is what causes mistakes, because your mind starts to wonder. but i am also obsessive compulsive and i see things very one way.
  7. i dont know why, but i feel like bringing back some really old topics. i have sprayed a perfect finish in 23 degree weather and 2 feet of snow on the ground. diddnt have any problems. although it was acrylic enamel, and it dried rock hard in 2 days
  8. mockups http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...ie/DCAM0043.jpg with neck blank http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...ie/DCAM0042.jpg and also, my new favorite finish is boiled linseed oil. it is just as smooth as tung oil, and cheaper. and it darkens the wood just enough. thanks guys
  9. i completly carve, then fret. i dont know why. but it works.
  10. pluss you forgot the front shot... thats because i do one side at a time. the front is not painted yet. i alwasy do the back first, because it has the most to be painted.
  11. is anybody out there? i guess it kind of looks the same as it did in primer.
  12. got part of the finish done. a little bit more sanding to finish. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...ie/DCAM0038.jpg
  13. http://cgi.ebay.com/7-string-Electric-guit...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. i think what i will do will be to put a piece of paduak underneath the fretboard. so it will be a 4 piece neck. i think that would look cool. mahog, wal, mahog underneath a bright orange piece. what do you guys think?
  15. I bought tung oil based stain from woodburst. Can it be mixed with clear coat? im not sure. ive never mixed tung with clear. you could test it first. that wouldnt hurt anything.
  16. hey matt, where do you get 8 string parts? i have been wanting to build one, but i cant find any parts.
  17. here guys, this is what im talking about at :35 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUEQgQ8Z-uU and its stupid that saying combining 2 different pieces of wood makes the guitar vibrate uneavenly. if that was the case, then no one would make neck thrus.
  18. whats the point of this? a lot of people say that one piece bodies sound and are higher quality. i saw the godin factory tour, and they cut wood in half, then glue it back together. seems really stupid to me. is there actually a reason for this? the only reason i can think of would be to decrease drying time.
  19. hey, thanks alot man! most people cant stand my work. but then again, they dont realize some of us are only 18, like me. but thats why i build my own, because it is impossible to find a guitar that has everything i want in it. just go for the neck, once i planned things, even just a little bit, it worked out. even thou it was nowhere near perfect.
  20. so, can the sealer be sanded or am I s.o.l.? yes, the sealer can be sanded down. what kind of wood are we talking about here? BASSWOOD WITH A FLAME MAPLE TOP then it should be fairly easy to sand off the sealer. if you are really sure you want to stain it instead of spraying a tinted color coat.
  21. i used to dread having to make necks. now look at me. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb262/k...ie/DCAM0035.jpg
  22. so, can the sealer be sanded or am I s.o.l.? yes, the sealer can be sanded down. what kind of wood are we talking about here?
